Not miserable but very lonely. Usually feel out of it at this time of year but now my family isn't even speaking to me...so now, I have no one to 'celebrate' with and no one to call on Christmas day just to say hello...

I never missed one...even after being inactive for 3 years I still made the Memorial every year. In 2004, though, I won't attend...first time in my whole life that I will not make the Memorial. I just found it strange how only those who were 'anointed' were allowed to partake...even after the JWs explanations, I could never get that down...

Not giving the org a bad name
by seattleniceguy ini've been out of the org in mind for three months (formally for only two weeks) but i find that i often feel that old familiar impulse to supress myself if i start to say something that could be construed as negative to the organizaton.
do you still feel that?
like, i might hesitate to tell my neighbor that i didn't associate with my dad for six years because of the df/da policy.

Even with all the things I know now, I can't help but still feel a knee-jerk reaction to defend JWs when the topic comes up at work. I hope that doesn't stay with me forever but it is so deeply ingrained in my personality...I probably need to read a book like Crisis Of Conscience and maybe these feelings will relent a little quicker.

Some Highlights,page 9,2004 yb."Our Children.......
by Blueblades induring the talk "our children-----a precious inheritance,"the speaker released the beautifully illustrated 256-page book learn from the great teacher.parents who deeply appreciate this divine inheritance will enjoy studying this fine new publication with their little ones.
"children" says the book,"need moral guidance, principles by which to live.and they need these from their tender years on.heart-breaking things can and do happen when childern do not receive help until it is too late.".
learn from the great teacher includes over 230 picture----almost double the number found in the bible stories book.every picture and group of pictures has a caption, most in the form of a question.the answers can be found on the same page.these and the many other questions throughout the book can be a find stimulus for conversation, allowing children to express themselves from the heart.for example, the caption on page 101 reads:"why is it important to remember to say thank you?

There's no formula for children to stay in the "truth"
Like you said, 'look at me'. I think the most arrogant thing that some JW's do is that they make parents of non-witness children feel somehow like they are horrible parents...bastards...

Considering I just DA'd last week and I have only been inactive 3 years (even went to the District Convention this year), I still have much guilt about throwing out any of the publications. Yet, since I am not going to be reading them anymore (I am starting to see more & more unethical things in just the way they are published), I guess I should either throw them out or drop them off at the Kingdom Hall for someone else to use...then again, that would be helping to spread a lie, hmm? Man, can't believe how smart I am and yet I didn't see through so many of these things...

Awake on taxes asleep on chronology.
by shotgun inif you have a copy of the december awake magazine dealing with taxes note the first page of the article.. the wt uses two quotes to show taxes have been a concern for thousands of years.. the first quote is from a babylonian artifact dated to 2300 bce.
the problem that presents is that only 69 years previous the world had been destroyed by a global flood according to wt chronology.
which means that in a mere 69 years noah and his three sons have produced a nation with sufficient infrastructure to require taxation.

How much of the bible do JW's really use?
by blindfool ini've noticed over the last several weeks how often the same scriptures are used in meetings at the kingdom hall.. anytime galatians is mentioned you can just about be sure you are going to look up chapter 5 ver.
19.. 2 timothy is going to be 3: 16. i can't remember considering any addional text to get the context of the verse, just reading the same verses over and over.
i'm sure most of you can name lots more scriptures used by jw's.. i think i'm going to start taking notes at meetings and listing which verses are used, then i can look from week to week and see how often the same old verses are considered.

Ask any JW for example, what Paul's main message to the Romans was (``salvation by grace, not works) and you're likely to get a blank stare.
Ask any JW to read 1 Corinthians 8 and then ask them if they could exercise their conscience about the blood issue without being disassociated.
