we all know how hard it is, usually, for those rasied in the truth to readjust "outside in the world" once they leave ... so not to undermine them (esp.

for those who came in later in life - regardless of how many times from the podium you were instructed not to "leave the love you had at first" many of you are here because you found out the "truth about the truth" whether it was the people or doctrine or combination ... and were willing to open your mind, realize the "truth about the truth" and leave.

not to undermine all those years and mind numbing propaganda you endured in the jw's, but i have always felt: .

Hi sirona, you do not address the bad expereinces i've had? it's like your saying the Jw's are to blame for the bad experiences i've had since and my mindset from them, which just can't be true.
Bad experiences still happen outside Jw's, Outside has it's own set of rules, I admit as aJW you are vulnerable because you grab at the freedom like a greedy child embracing it without realising the consequences Ouch!!! but for those that have never been Jw's the dangers are still there.
Just as a mum, i'm tempted to bring my child up in the Jw's (Mindcontrol aside) Christmas and birthdays are a small price to pay if I can protect her from Druggies and Std's from teen-sex.
My mum brought up 7 kids as Jw's none of us have become long-term JW's (only lasting in few years those that got baptised) but all of us got a strong sense of morality, shunning drugs and sex in those critical teen years avoiding the greater dangers around us, drugs is the biggest issue where i live atm
My youngest sister and her best friend were brought up in similar ways on a council estate only difference being the JW stuff, My sister is currently training to be a operating theatre assistant, has a morgage, a husband she would never be unfaithful too and a great kid, her friend became a glue-sniffer then heavier drugs, got raped by a boozed up family friend at a family party, is now in a council house with 4 kids struggling, drugs has turned to booze, they are no longer friends having nothing in common.

Strong parenting is a much better tool for instilling integrity into your children then using religion as a crutch in order to scare them into complying

I grew up as a Witness also and saw many of kids who actually started using drugs & alcohol because of all the teachings they learned as a JW scared them so badly; you say "Mindcontrol aside" but what is the use of raising your kids as JWs if they won't believe in the doctrines that would supposedly keep them in tow? You can't have your cake and eat it too...

we know the book study is about to be cut.

i am reading talk here of the preaching work being declared "over" and possible changes in disfellowshipping policy.. we know the wbts is running low on funds.

they don't make money from the literature and the new recruits are going straight back out of the revolving door.

Doubt it since they are still making strides in different areas of the globe; also, despite the amazing amount of world-ending prophecies, the WTS is like any other religion in that it wants to keep attracting new members in perpetuity to earn more cash flow so why cut it off now? Anybody saying that the preaching work will be declared over is just dreaming so that they can sleep in on Saturday mornings like the rest of us... I tell you this, if somehow the WTS did end the preaching work and stuff then that would make for awkward conversation when I take my mom to the doctor..."the end of the world is soon, son!"

Security measures regarding the "big announcement" 4/27

per our po, real "cloak and dagger" stuff.... he received a "highly confidential" letter from the society last week, instructing him to .

1) read the letter.

2) tell no one else about it until 4/27...specifically told not to announce to the congregation "there will be a big announcement next week".

It is quite simple if they are actually selling property in Brooklyn: NYC real estate is at a high right now even with the housing crisis and the Brooklyn Heights/DUMBO neighborhoods are in demand so if the WTBS sells some of their highly desirable assets then they would make a killing in this market.

Psst, yea right...people HATE the KKK, people HATE Nazis, people HATE terrorists...JWs are for the vast majority of people just another weird religion that have a gimmick (knocking on people's doors). There are individuals & groups that hate JWs but there are also groups that hate any religion you can think of so are those also the true religion?

20 is a great age for developed youthfulness, and 25 to 30 is as well.

if it was to be around say, 28, why wouldn't have 20 been a better choice?

why would it have been 35 or 40, if younger years are always more vibrant and healthier years?.

The reader of such a passage would be wrong in assuming that information within square brackets in any way correlates or agrees with the original author. That is why it is in square brackets. Lady Libery is incorrect to describe this in any way as a misquote - she is demonstrating a lack of understanding of basic grammar. The Insight book editor has accurately punctuated the quotation.

I know people here want to use Lady Liberty's example but the above is correct: grammatically, the WTS properly altered the text in a manner that is allowed. However, I find it highly unethical that an organization that actively discourages its members to read outside sources (yes, even its quoted sources) would change quotes in such manner...also, I always had a problem with the manner that the Soceity does footnotes and this is another example where a footnote would of been appropriate (see link for guide on proper footnotes - http://www.library.csi.cuny.edu/dept/history/lavender/footnote.html).

Either way, the example in this topic still can't be used as an example that the WTS is outright lying to its members...simply another example to show how it slyly alters comments in ways to make followers believe that scholars agree with key points of doctrine.
