HELP! Trying to convince my parents I am going to meetings!
by stillAwitness ina few weeks ago i posted about about how my parents have been asking about wether or not my card has been sent to my "new congregation" since i moved out in july.
up until now, i have been stalling not knowing wether or not i wanted to just come out and say "i have not been going to meetings" or not take any action at all.
well someone left an interesting piece of advice on my thread that i have been contemplating doing.that maybe, perhaps i should just have my card sent to a congregation that isn't anywhere near the actual city i live in.

Out of Mythic into Rational consciousness, the EX-JW Journey
by jst2laws ini have been absent much for almost a year, reading, learning and breaking out of boxes, figuratively.
i'm hoping that sharing some thoughts and asking some questions might be fun, and maybe helpful for a few.
have you wondered how two people can look at the same information, go through the same experience as you, perhaps even be party to the same conversation yet come away with an entirely different perception?

We are drawing an unnecessary distinction about color when we are really discussing the machinery of the eye and the data base of the brain.
yes, I agree. If the machinery and data base are the same the different wavelengths should be seen the same by different persons. we can call grass green or purple but it should still register in the brain as the same color no matter what we call it.
Thats why I said at the end of my post. "One would think though that since our eyes are built or designed very similar and colors emit different wavelengths that these wavelengths would be interpreted similarly by a similarly designed eye."
Do we agree?

Ok, to those who replied to my post on color matching especially Auldsoul. I read your reply and I understand what you are saying.
There are times when I look at a color and if I had to name it I would call it blue while my significant other would call it grey. In other words i would say the predominant color is blue while she would say it was grey. It gets even worse with shade of purple or blue or burgundys. Interestingly enough we both would add the same colors together to get it i.e., blue white, black and maybe a little purple or red oxide depending on the hue. We actually may see the color differently in our minds eye, so yes I agree with you that just because we would both eventually match the color we may in fact see it quite differently. :) Sometimes one of us may match a color quite quickly while the other may have some trouble. One of us may quickly see for instance that we need a little yellow to match while the other one may have difficulty realizing that is what is needed.
One would think though that since our eyes are built or designed very similar and colors emit different wavelengths that these wavelengths would be interpreted similarly by a similarly designed eye. Of course I could be wrong. I have been wrong once before I think.

Christmas is Christian
by Amazing infalse reasoning: the wts claims that there are only two birthdays mentioned in the bible, both of which resulted in someone being killed.
thus, they conclude, that this is jehovah's way of telling us that we should not celebrate brithdays, including the birth of jesus christ.. fact: there are five birthdays mentioned in the bible.
the most important and celebrated is the birth of jesus christ himself.

On the color perspective. I happen to match colors for a living, along with my significant other. We both see colors amazingly the same way. We almost 100 percent of the time agree on what color to add to the color we have to get the color we are attempting matching, which means our perception of color is very much the same. If that helps.

Ex-JW Friends - Learning Who They Really Are
by Amazing inlearning to find friends as an ex-jw.
i wrote this essay because of what i have observed and experienced in the way of disappointment and reward in the relationships and freinds i have made online.
i can relate to how you some x-jws feel about leaving online discussion boards.

I really liked your post Jim.
I kind of agree with Sassy. We have been out of the org for appx 5 yrs and have yet to make any really good friends outside of the org, of which we have no contact with now. It seems kind of weird associating with the world. I still find myself pulling back from really letting go, for some unknown reason. I wish I could flip a switch and be normal ;) like every one else. Does anyone know what I mean?
