That WT quote is absolutely correct....for the type of people that read the WT. Yes, those type of people will feel guilty and bitter, and STDs and pregnancys are real problems. For many others, there is no guilt or bitterness associated with it, but the physical side effects are inescapable.
I have a hard time arguing against their strict morals on this matter. It does more good than harm. If everyone in the world was completely monogamous, think of the problems it would solve. STDs would be greatly reduced, fewer abortions and orphans and single parent families. Fewer families breaking up, etc.
If someone wants to follow these strict morals, kudos to them. With my children, I will definitely encourage it. I certainly won't attach the stigmatism of losing out on eternal life if they do it, but will do my best to impress on them why it is important to retain sex either for marriage or for someone you are strongly considering marriage. Who knows if they'll listen.

FORNICATION - Friend or Foe?
by adamgraziano inis fornication as bad as the jw's say it is?
jw quote - "the aftereffects of immorality are as bitter as wormwood and as sharp as a two-edged sword?painful and death dealing.
a troubled conscience, an unwanted pregnancy, or a sexually transmitted disease are often the bitter consequences of such conduct.

Got caught throwing magazines in the trash
by unbeliever ini had to take my dad to the va hospital for a doctor's appointment and in almost every waiting room there was magazines not even recent issues.
you have to wait for freaking ever at the va hospital so i decided to do my civic duty and i went around this huge hospital collecting magazines and would throw them in the nearest trash can.
nobody cared until i got on the 4th floor.

Then I guess we think differently. Again, would you walk around throwing away People magazines? How about National Enquirer? It's just rude and out of place. When I was a JW and pioneered we ALWAYS asked the hospital if we could leave magazines and they usually let us. So how do you know that they aren't there with the approval of the hospital? YOU DON'T. If the hospital doesn't want them there, they will throw them away. They don't need all knowing do gooders to decide for them what should be there, so why not mind your own business and let the hospital mind theirs? The world doesn't need Ex-JWs to save them from JWs. Just my opinion.

Infant Circumcision
by RAYZORBLADE ini figured that this topic must come up from time to time; especially moreso over here in north america.. as some of you are well aware, i posted a lovely thread about the upcoming birth about my nephew.. i'm thrilled about him, i simply just can't wait.. anyways, having been born here in north america, specifically: canada.
circumcision was common, if not all the rage in the 1950s, and 1960s and probably up until the 1970s.
with national health care, you can bet that the medical profession saw many dollars with regards to foreskins (sorry for graphic remarks).

My son was cut. We didn't necessarily do it for health reasons, more for PE locker room reasons.

What is the difference between my taking a magazine I know to be full of half-truths and distortions and destroying it, and another hospital, laudromat, doctor's office patron picking up the mag, finding it a joke (really ... once you've been out, they seem SO convoluted!), and disposing of it?
Because it is THEIR waiting room or facility, so it is up to them what magazines they allow there for their patrons to read. Its just not your place. If you hate People magazine, would you automatically seek them out in hospitals and destroy them? It seems rather petty and rude to me and I can understand why others would get pissed off.

What Would A Jehovah's Witness Romance Novel Be Like?
by minimus ini was reading in the religion page of the newspaper today that the mormons are enjoying romance novels in which descriptions of the characters' sex lives are limited to little more the first kiss--- that could happen after they are engaged to be married........any ideas of what a jw romance novel might be like?

Very sad. The father said that his son has been on meds for 25 years! And when he goes off it he can't control himself but this is the first time he has been violent. The father thinks the son should NOT be prosecuted for a homicide, but says that he needs help. What a tragedy! I feel sorry for this man, to lose his wife and to still love his son to not even cast blame on him. What heart wrenching emotions he must be having.

Hidding WT's Alaskan Plane?
by Gerard inback on october/10, i posted links to two incidents incurred by a wt's airplane on alaskan fishing lodges:
http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/11/60166/1.ashx
it is supposed to be that all vehicles belonging to the wt are registered under the name: "kingdom support services.

Who says they are hiding it? There could be a myriad of reasons for the name change, I seriously doubt it is to hide the fact that they have a plane from this apostate board, especially since everyone already knows they have it.
Why not offer the trip to the hard working slaves at Bethel?
How do you divide up a small plane among 5,000 Bethelites? As anything else, they would probably base it on seniority, so, as is being done, the GB and old timers would get to use it.
there's some apprehension that this plane is being used for fishing and hunting trips for senior Bethelites. That's why it's being treated with suspicion.
Well go on being suspicious. All it is is speculation and conspiracy theories at this point. If I was an active JW and someone pointed out their "WT Plane information" as a reason to question the WT, I'd probably laugh my ass off. -

Or take no action and let the unsuspecting public figure it out for themselves? We, as Ex JW's have inside information about the WTS. We know what falling for their lies will do to people. Would it not be a loving act to protect innocent people from this trash?
So we should be making decisions for other people? We should decide what is right and wrong for them? You don't teach people by hiding information from them.... I like this idea MUCH better...
I know of at least one person out in California who, whenever they find a stray magazine in a waiting room or laundromat, does not dispose of it, but simply staples a brochure neatly to the inside front cover of the magazine that gives a summation of erroneous JW doctrine, and a phone number and website to contact for further information.
Let people decide for themselves. If you think what they are being told is wrong then tell them why. Don't try to simply destroy the source it came from.

Sleeping on your back
by seattleniceguy ini was raised a witness, so from an early age i got into the habit of bowing my head to pray.
the idea was that to look up would be disrespectful.
of course, it soon struck me that when praying in bed, you're brazenly staring straight up at god, so i started rolling onto my side to pray.
-
amac
I was taught to bow my head, just so I wouldn't be tempted to look around and not pay attention during the prayer.
On the sleeping subject...back and side for me, can't do the tummy.

Forgive me for not reading the entire thread, but to answer the subject questions....probably just as bad as ANY romance novel.
