  FDS Sends Convention Delegates Packin'

  jehovah's witness across north america are being sternly counseled at this week's service meeting that they should pack lunches during the 2004 dictrict convention instead of leaving the site to eat elsewere or return with food.

  in a letter read during the announcements, members are told this is a "serious problem".

  reportedly jws have been banned from some convention locations because the venues want concession stand business if jws insist on bringing carry-out meals into the facility.

  I went to my first service meeting in about 6 months only to hear this stupid letter being read. I was so appalled by it that I had to get up and leave in the middle of it...I wanted to shout out how stupid it was. They even had the gall to use the fact that when Jesus performed his miracle to feed a crowd he only gave them fish and bread. This was to help say that we need to bring a "lite lunch." They even gave examples of the kind of food we should bring!!!! It was absurd!

  Rather than just nicely ask the friends to consider it in order to help their negotiations with facilities, they try to mask it as a scriptural reason to obey them. I hate it!

  WBTS Rand Cam Scandal

  i am still one of jehovah's witnesses but am inquiring about information about rand cam.

  i have recently been questioning my faith and the organization, due to some situations.

  The CrapTower Society became a partner at the moment of the Rand Cam Inc, Regi U.S. Inc. and Rand Energy Group Inc. creation.

  You're right, they were a partner in the sense that they owned stock....but without voting proxy and without an active say in what happens in the company. So unless they assigned a person to track the activities of this company (highly unlikely since they own lots of stock with lots of companies) they would not have been savvy to what contracts this company was negotiating.

  After 16 years, they did not know they owned 50% of three companies?

  That's not what I said...take your time and read my posts slower and maybe you will understand them...or better yet, for the umpteenth time, just avoid my posts and don't respond to them. I said it is unlikely they knew what was going on in the company, not that they owned part of the company. Oh by the way...you forgot your stupid little ostrich pic...

  I'd have no problem taking your challenge. I could simply talk about stock in IBM. I guarantee you that they have military contracts and doubt anyone would bat an eye over it.

  I would not spend too much time on the Rand Cam deal. I can't imagine many witnesses seeing it much more than a simple oversight and mistake. If I was you I'd focus your energy on the UN deal and even more so on the simple fact that the WT is overly dogmatic. Did you just get that letter read in your hall that pretty much tells the witnesses what kind of food they should be bringing to the assemblies? Talk about ridiculous...

  But for your sake, here is my recollection of what happened with the Rand Cam deal....

  A JW named James McCann owned a company called Rand Cam Engine Corp with which he developed a simple rotary engine. He donated half the stock to the WT but kept the voting proxy, so the WT was not involved in the company, they would have just received any dividends or profit from the stock sale (which is arguable and unprovable either way.)

  Another company that owned the other half or bought the company (this part is fuzzy for me) ran a division that was in charge of marketing and developing this engine. They scored some contracts with the military.

  Since the WT was not involved in the company, it is unlikely that they knew what was going on. Once it was pointed out, they seemed to have dumped the stocks. As you can see...not all that big of a deal.

  In conclusion, I'd be wary of any report that sensationalizes a situation like this by starting out calling Rand Cam Engine Corp one of the "Watchtower's 'Sister Companies'." That is ridiculous...

  I think you may have misunderstood the policy letter. It acknowledges that it is rare to have an eyewitness to an account of child abuse. So it allows for the use of strong circumstantial evidence or eyewitnesses (more than likely victims) of SIMILAR accounts. In other words, if it is one person's word against another, they take no judicial action without strong circumstantial evidence. If it is multiple accusations than they can take action...just like the court systems. I wish they had this policy everywhere as it seems to cover the problem quite well.

  The fact of the matter is, it is a WMD probably taken from a hidden stockpile of some kind.

  That's hardly a fact is it? More like your presumptious conclusion. I'm sorry, but one shell does not prove anything either way. There could be a myriad reasons for that being in Iraq, so to presume that it means they have stockpiles is ridiculous.

  Throwing mags away in public places

  i did a search and couldn't find another post on this subject, so i hope this hasn't been addressed too recently already.... i systematically throw away wtbts literature that i find in public places (restrooms, and most recently, eight, count 'em, eight mags at the train station that had about 20 chairs in it (four sets of the same magazines--someone had a good month!

  ) i rolled them up and deposited them into the trash, my father was shocked and said that people should be given the chance to read them.

  i said i was saving people from exposure from a cult.

  While I can see some point to what you say, I say it's just as presumptious for the JW's to leave their magazines scattered about in public places. There's a time and place for everything, and unless there's an actual INVITATION to leave literature from the owner of the train, the laundromat, or whatever building -- then it is technically UNINVITED and can be viewed as a nuisance.

  Agreed, but I don't think it justifies the presumptious reaction spoken of here, again, unless it is your property.
