when i was a good little dub, i remember being in highschool and i had to work on a class project with several other people.

to work on our project we had to go off campus.

all the people in my group were boys and one of them volunteered to drive to our project site.

That is a matter of opinion. Science has proven nothing in this regard. It is commonly accepted in the scientific community that it is a balance of biological and environmental influence. But NOTHING shows which is the greater influence. I'm sure it varies from case to case and a statement such as "genetic predispostions are largely irrelevant" is a far stretch.

he said that Ray could write whatever he wanted, but as Witnesses of Jehovah our job was to do his will and preach the good news, not go around suing former disgruntled members.

I don't buy that. COC is probably the number one publication that drags people out of the "Truth." The GB know this and if they are trying to preach the good news and had means to stop an evil apostate that was stopping people from following God, you can bet your butt they would sue him.

court tv is televising the longo trial, he was a disfellowshipped jw that killed his family in oregon last year.

i emailed them about my experience, my daughter completed suicide after the elders threatened to disfellowship her.

i also mentioned the bryant family murder suicides in oregon, the husband was disfellowshipped and in a desperate financial situation like longo about 18 months ago.. court tv excepts emails from viewers and sometimes airs them.

You have relayed your personal experience to me in the past and all I can say is that my heart still goes out to you for what you have been through...

My intention was not in anyway to excuse Mr. Longo, just to stir the pot, so to speak, maybe spark curiosity by mentioning other murder/suicides committed by disfellowshiped jws.

I understand your intentions and their honorable motive. All I am saying is, despite YOUR intentions, any comments sent in and used by the media could only be used to connect this man's actions to being a JW instead of making him solely responsible.

I hope that both you and Mulan do not think that I am saying that is your intention, I'm simply referring to the realistic outcome of an attempt to use this as a platform for exposing JWs.

The bad publicity would be for the benefit of the public, not the mindless dubs.

How would the public benefit? If his being a JW is capitalized on, the only connections the public could make is "Hmmm, he was a JW and it made him a murderer" OR "Hmmm, why are they reporting on him being a JW? Whatever he is, he killed his family." Why would you want to detract from any conclusion that places the blame for KILLING his FAMILY solely on him?

We thought it was a great idea and still do.

I don't mean to harp on you, I simply think you are mixing your own desires to expose the mind control of JWs with the responsibility this man has for his actions. There is NO excuse for KILLING your family, and being a JW is not the problem, this man is the problem.

I'm sorry Mulan and Qwerty, but being a JW has fzuacpkp-all to do with him being a cold blooded murdering psycho. What connection are you trying to make between this case and JWs by sending them emails? The ONLY connection would be to say that being a JW was responsible for this in some way. There is NO other connection. He deserves no mercy! Why help him?

This guy is a monster.

Mulan, I know your intentions are good and you simply want to educate people about JW's, but I don't think attaching that to this case is right.

I don't think being a JW had anything to do with this guy being a monster. I would hate to see the media use the responses of ex-JWs to come to a public conclusion that JW's create people like Longo. I don't think anyone deserves that except for Longo himself. Just my 2 cents.

Untold millions of dollars that jw's donate - to fight for shunning & the cover up of mistakes by elders and crimes of child molesters. MILLIONS UPON MILLIONS.
No orphanages, old folks homes, schools, etc.

Waiting - I agree that it is tragic that they have never spent money on orphanages, etc. However, my complaint would then be that in itself, not the fact that they hire lawsuits to defend themselves and their money. If I was an active member, I would be pissed if they were NOT hiring lawyers for a proper defense.
