Forget about whether the number is accurate. Ask your wife why everything else surrounding the number 144,000 in Revelation is taken figuritively but magically, that number is supposed to be taken literally. Even though the tribes that they are taken from are acknowledged by JWs as being figurative.

144,000 ?
by 24k inwhile in the midst of a discussion with my wife, who is a devout witness, regarding who go to heaven, it dawned on me that the wbts teaching that only 144,000 go to heaven seems to have a fatal flaw in the math.
according to acts 2:41 "... about three thousand souls were added to their number that day.
" speaking of christians.

Teen, you seem to equate being anti-war and anti-the current US administration with being a pussy. This is simply not true. It has nothing to do with that.
I happen to be against the war in Iraq and would personally not join the military myself. I also happen to find myself in scuffles from time to time. Some people see it as a problem I have, I simply seeing it as defending my honor. I have no problem getting in a fight and I would have no problem picking up a rifle if I saw an imminent threat my family and community.

you don't see political women sitting on their asses crying over what should have been! Women get things done.
Except for that special time of the month.

At Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington DC recently a local elder, Brother HangsoutwithBethelHeavies, was with a group of people visiting a young Jehovah's Witness who lost his right hand due to not accepting a blood transfusion and was in critical condition. The local elder wanted to honor him and show him respect without offending, but what can you say or do in such a situation that will encourage and uplift? How do you shake the right hand of a young man who has none? He decided to act as though the hand was not missing and gripped the young man's wrist while speaking words of comfort and encouragement to him. But there was another man in that group of visitors who had even brought his wife with him to visit the wounded who knew exactly what to do. This man reverently took the boy's stump of a hand in both of his hands, bowed at the bedside and prayed for him. When he finished the prayer he stood up, bent over the soldier and kissed him on the head and told him that he loved him.
What a powerful expression of love for one of our theocratic warfare heroes! What kind of a man would kneel in such humility and submission? It was the young man's Governing Body member, Ted Jaracz; a true leader.
This story was told by the conducting Bethel Elder at Morning Worship at Brooklyn Bethel, NY, and
recorded by Brother Likestoperpetuateemotionalstories, stationed there. Pass it on...the world won't. -

I had always had questions and doubts about things like DFing, Birthdays, 144,000, and most of their understandings of prophecies, but being a good JW, I supressed them and waited on Jehovah. I was in full time service for more than 5 years. After I stopped, I had a hard time meeting the nat'l average. It was then that I realized that when I was struggling to get up on Saturday for service that I wasn't thinking about Jehovah, I was thinking about the elders noticing me not there (I was an MS for about 5 years and about to be appointed an elder.) At that point, I decided to step down and address all the questions I had supressed.

I'm heterosexual, then I would ask: How do you know? How can you be so sure?
What a funny question...I would have to answer that I know because when I see a naked woman, I get a boner...when I see a naked man, it goes away.

I'm convinced that there must be a genetic reason for homosexuality.
I'm curious, why are you so convinced? Especially since scientists have tried but have not been able to find any "genetic reason."

I think you can be predisposed to any amount of things, but I dont see it being an excuse.
I agree with that. Even if an alcoholic has addictive tendencies and predisposed to being an alcoholic, it is not an excuse for him to continue drinking and damaging the lives of those around him. If homosexuality was damaging to other people, than I would also say being predisposed is not an excuse. But since it is not damaging to others, there is no excuse needed.
So in relation to this thread, is Gay a choice? I think, does it matter? Some pro-gay* people use genetic tendencies as an excuse for being gay. Some anti-gay* say it is not genetics and that is not an excuse. I say why do they need an excuse?
*I obviously use these terms VERY loosely to describe opposing sides of the argument.

As long as you recognize it is merely your opinion based on the amount of knowledge that you have on the subject, I'm cool with that.
