Do you think that the "U.N." will one day ban all religions?
by JH infor many, religion is the root of terrorism and war.
since the beggining of creation or evolution, mankind is at war not only for religious reasons, but economical ones too.
oil is a good example.

UFO Thread
by TheEdge inbear with me.
i intended to respond to globetrotter's ''atheist thread'' as i remember (way back) reading that the origin of jehovah (as i recall) was that in mythology he was one of two brothers.
anyway, i could not find where i obtained this information so i tried to google it....still no joy.. i did, however, find something of interest (but i've lost the ufo thread to respond to, lol) - a quote from ''reconciliation'' (1928) by jf rutherford :- ''the constellation of pleiades is the place of the eternal throne of god''.

Have you noticed an oddity at indoor conventions?
by truth_about_the_truth inevery time i've attended a dc in an indoor arena, i 've noticed a u.s. flag hanging on the rafters or somewhere prominently displayed.
of course it is a permanent fixture of the arena.
anyways, since national flags are symbols of idolatry.

Warm Shock On A Cold Day
by Sunspot infor those of you that know my background, you know that my only sibling, a sister (nonjw) disowned me back in the '70s along with my parents when i became a jw.
when i daed myself in '99, i wrote them and apologized for making a terrible mistake, etc and heard nothing.
i just got an email from my sister asking for my address because she wants to write to me, and she signed it "love, your little sis"..

Once upon a wild blue ocean.
I saw an angel drifting.
Alone at sea I saw her face.
She knew me.Once upon a wild blue ocean.
I saw an angel drifting.
Alone at sea, I saw his face.
He knew me.Once upon a wild blue ocean.
I saw two angels drifting.
Alone at sea, I saw them both.
I passed them by unseen. -

What kind of atheist are you?
by Narkissos inchief rabbi leon ashkenazi said: "the difference between an atheist christian and an atheist jew is that an atheist christian does not believe that god exists, while an atheist jew believes that god does not exist.".
i'm not so sure about the jewish-christian borderline, but i love the nuance.. so which sentence suits you better?.
"i don't believe that god exists.".

In my view, nobody truly believes in 'God', because nobody can truly grasp what it is (to be God) (no mind can grasp the infinite and that is what God is meant to be). I think that people who say they believe in God, actually only believe in their own idea of God, which is an opinion formed within the confines of their finite intelligence. Believing in what you believe God is, is a trick of the mind in my mind. It's like believing in what you believe someone is, when in fact they are not.
So, as I said, I believe that if there is a God, mankind does not even have a concept for what it is. - And so can never truly believe in it (because they don't know what it is)

E-Watchman Has Sent NGO Letters to Over 5000 U.S. Congregations!
by Greenpalmtreestillmine ine-watchman has sent over 5000 letters to congregations in the u.s informing them of the ngo debacle and a similar one to 101 branches around the world.
and according to his guestbook post he has signed his real name to the letters!
great work and great news!

Great letter, I think it is one that could be very useful to keep on file and refer to when the UN issue comes up. It explains it better than most of us could on the spur of the moment.

Would Jesus shun anyone?
by JH ini can't imagine jesus shunning anyone.
on the contrary, he went towards those who needed help the most.
if the jw's followed jesus footsteps, they wouldn't shun.
-
dh
Even Satan couldn't mislead Jesus, so of course no man could, therefore he had nothing to fear and could not be mislead by bad associations.
Men on the other hand, are not Jesus, and can be mislead, hence shunning to keep the congregation safe.
(This isn't my opinion but it's the sort of response I would expect a JW to come out with if posed with that question.)

is smoking the worst sin?
by in a new york bethel minute ina group of young brothers in the faith go out.
they go to a bar and all get drunk.
they dance and make out with "worldly" girls all nite.
-
dh
Yep, I've seen JW's get blind drunk and make a real scene of themselves, as well as make out at parties, but smoking would always be looked down on, unless in a specific circle or with your close friends, for example I first smoked weed when I was in highschool, there was another another JW kid present too who also tried it, he would smoke cigarettes too. So though it is looked down on, kids will experiment. For me trying weed with a friend was better (not as bad) as making a scene getting drunk in front of everyone like so many of the other JW kids did on a regular basis, and I knew it was not harming me long term as it was such a small deal, so my conscience was always clear.
