by Celtic inhow many of you balmpots have ever had the travelling bug before?
how close have you come to just simply dumping everything, donning your backpack and making off for new horizons?
perhaps you have already caught the travelling bug and already seen many exciting new places, new, strange to you cultures and experienced the life on the road, on a minimal budget.. can you tell us where you would like to go, where you have been and any stories about your travels?

As it happened, he was so bewitched by the beauty of our state and its women that he never left. He married one of the women, built a house, raised a huge family, and NEVER LEFT. So, please be careful when traveling through Maine and Tennessee, that you don't get too bewitched, as well.
hmm, maine you say...

my reaction
by wasasister ini saw just enough of the beheading video to cast me in a terrible depression.
that - added to the prison abuse still photos - leaves me wondering why humans continually sink to such depravity.
(i never thought i'd be saying this, but i'm sick of seeing naked men.

I have not been aware of the locking of threads on this subject, so if it is redundant, I am sorry. My purpose in writing what I did was to try and bring some perspective to this horrific event. Some have already been able to do this, while others insist on making it into a political statement.
there was something more to add... for the record, i think that this type of topic/post/thread is way more productive than all of the other war news threads out there combined, and should be kept open.

i still find this difficult as i really did think i was serving god, but now i know i only thought that because i was told it was the only way

i don't, i leave god alone mostly and he leaves me alone, sometimes i have a dig at him, and i think he does the same, it's a mutual understanding. the fact that i am alive, must eat, sleep, and have senses and must submit to gravity and all other phyical things are proof that i 'serve' the will of god.
(all of this is assuming there is a god... )

The Blame Game
by Xena inthe blame game...interesting to watch.

i was born a jw, my parents still are, it wasn't great but i do not blame them at all, they thought what they were doing is right, it wasn't, but so what, we all make mistakes. i wasn't abused or anything so it's not like i have anything major to blame for anyway except missing everything that makes a childhood a childhood, and all the jw garbage, but to me that was all character building and i can pull more positive from it than negative.
my view on life is not to blame anyone, just deal with it and get on with it, blaming and pointing a finger at someone else is a waste of good time i could spend tormenting myself. i don't want any random sacrifce to answer for my badness either, i prefer to take the beating for whatever i do, if i'm wrong and i need to suffer, it's fine, that's what being an adult is about, dealing with things and accepting the consequences. not blaming and not letting someone else take the heat for you.
sure there are victims out there who are within their rights to blame, victims of abuse etc, i cannot speak about that much because it never happened to me, if i was abused i would probably blame and be full of hate, but for different reasons than now.
for the things that have happened in my life, i do not blame anyone but myself, even if it wasn't my fault, it's much easier to deal with it if i tell myself it is, stick it in a box and throw it into the place where my laughter comes from.

i recently spent a couple of months in south africa, but that was the first time i have really backpacked, it was fun and a really great experience, i think for hostels south africa is one of the best places in the world, i haven't ever been in hostels in other places, but some hostels i stayed in there are better than hotels i have stayed in in other countries!
anyway, it was an awesome place, beautiful scenery, lots of adventure, beautiful weather, nice friendly people, there are lots of poor people, but i didn't see anything extreme, and there's high crime but i never encountered that either.
anyway i stayed in the eastern cape for 3 weeks, then toured down the garden route to cape town and up the western coast and back down to cape town, staying in hostels and b & b's most of the way, driving a banged up volkswagon beetle, it was fun, hiked up table mountain, that was free, and all the game parks i went to cost peanuts, peanuts being like five pounds to get in. food is cheap there also. and in cape town the girls outnumber the guys 4 to 1, and it's a lot of fun when the weekend hits, in cape town almost every other girl out at the weekend is a model, it's mad. but there's tonnes more to it than that, the whole country is beautiful, people, places, rivers mountains, hills, wilderness, it has everything for everyone, and it's affordable... i will totally go back there.
statistics about cost of hostel pricing there... you can get a dorm room in a hostel usually for no more than five pounds per night... in cape town you might pay seven pounds, that's like 10 dollars, so it's not expensive, you can fly from cape town to jo burg for about 800 rand, and to durban for around the same, in cape town there are guys who hire vw beetles out on a monthly basis, for like 2000 rand a month (about 180 punds)... there's good public transport, which is good because something always goes wrong! like one beetle blew up halfway to cape town and had to get a greyhound the rest of the day, only half a days wait! and there's internet access everywhere, and phone network and cellular network as good as anywhere i've been, and the people speak english, which was great! for me i get sick of nobody speaking english, so that was a feature for me!
i can go on and on! if you wanna see some photos of scenery there pm me, i think it's a cool place, beautiful place, affordable, and if you can only afford one flight to one place, there and back, i think south africa has more to offer than most countries, more unforgettable things...

What religious groups do the jws draw most converts from?
by badboy inwhat % of converts are former rc/luther/baptist etc etc?
-
dh
i don't think it's any particular religious group they attract, i think it's more like depressed lonely single people. ironic that more often than not it's depressed lonely single people who leave as well, or get kicked.
