If you found yourself sitting next to a GB member on a plane...

...or on a train or whatever, and it was just the two of you, and the it was going to be a reasonably long trip... what would you say to him?

would you try to reason with him that the witnesses are wrong?

tell him what things need to change and why?

Has anybody seen "The Crow"? In the end Eric put his hand on a bad guy's forehead and let him feel the pain his fiancee felt before her death. If I had some superhero capabilities, I'd transfer all the pain they caused to the GB member and let him live with it.

OH, HELL YEAH !

Hopefully... it would be on some 15 hour non-stop flight, with lots of turbulence, so he'll keep belted in his seat.

THEN, I'd get him to explain the corporate blood policy. THEN, every single change and flip-flop that has occured since it's inception.

THEN, I'd get him to explain the corporate organ transplant policy. THEN, the Olde "...it's cannibalistic" policy.

THEN, I'd ask him how he sleeps at night...knowing thousands of loyal JW's have died, because they were hanging on to whatever the Current New Lightis...only to have it change into Forbidden Olde Light -- the very next day !!!!!!! All because these true believers showed unflinching faith...that Jehovah their God was using the Governing Body -- exclusively -- as "...a CONDUIT" for His direction.

He would then say, "I sleep fine at night, God has always used an imperfect human organization. ~~Shit~~...er, I mean 'things happen', ya' know?"

I would then give him, as much as possible, a heart-wrenching minute-by-minute account of the death of one of those Faithful Witnesses, following GB 'No Blood Transfusion' directions. My mom. Not too long after her death...the GB, thru Jah's pipeline, saw "New Light" or maybe 2/3 of them heard the same little muffled voices in their heads: Hemoglobin -- formerly a DF'ing, death for all eternity sin was now OK. A "Conscience matter."

THEN, I would pronounce him -- a blood-guilty, dangerous, paranoid-ridden false prophet, who's heart and eyes have died a long time ago.

Oh, yeah...I'd love to be stuck in a plane or elevator, etc. with one of these guys.

Then...

He would say, "I sleep fine at night, God has always used an imperfect human organization. ~~Shit~~...er, I mean 'things happen', ya' know?"

Parents with JW Adult Children Shunning Them - How Are You Coping ?

i do understand your plight - as i have 2 adult jw daughters shunning me aged 21 and almost 20. they married witness boys 2 years ago and it's been 1 year since i've spoke with my younger daughter, 5 months since i went to coffee with my older daughter.

i call them, but they won't return my calls.

i tell them i love them, but it's as if i don't exist.

Three adult kids, 4 grand kids. One I have fairly good contact with finally, one I saw 1.5 years ago for the first time in 5 years and the next it's been 6 years and I've never seen that granddaughter yet.

The one who does talk is "spiritually weak" which means 'humanly strong' to me. Sadly, she sways and bends when the Governing Body blows their hot wind. I always know when the shunning is about to start up again -- by the advance notices I get here on JWD. Whenever the WT is about to lower the boom on 'independent thinking'...I steel my nerves against the coming storm and then the silence.

How do I cope ? Sometimes...good, sometimes...not. But, I truly believe it takes a greater toll upon the shunners, as they are the ones who are going against "natural affection." They must, according to the WT, "kill" off apostates and non-believers in their minds and lives. When they do...they murder a part of their own hearts.

On the "Will" thing...I just don't know what to do. Mostly, I think I'll leave them all equal parts withholding nothing, hoping that shock of getting something will cause them to question how they treated their Dad. Other times...when it really hurts I think about writing them out. Then, I think of how long *I* was 'a slave of the WT' and have empathy for them. After all, I'll be dead, can't take it with me and won't know what happens anyway.

I hate what this religion has done to me and my family ...and all of yours, too.

i have a few which still either anger me, make me sad or just make me grateful that i am no longer one of them.

1 - "well, everyone is going to die anyway, so if it at armageddon then ce la vie" 2 - "the disater today at the world trade centre is sad, but exciting" 3 - (an elder) "when armageddon happens, i want to be at a window, watching it all".

BUT, within seconds of of my JW mom's death in a silent hospital room full of faithful JW's, one fader and several normal people... there were the appropriate gasps and muffled cries of loved ones...

Then, quietly...I started hearing Witnesses saying:

"I am SO proud of Mom...she stayed faithful to the very end !"

"Yes, she sure did, I hope when I die it will be with her same integrity."

"Now, because of her Godly obedience, she's guaranteed a resurrection in Paradise™."

"Now, it's up to us to stay faithful and we'll be there to welcome her back at the Resurrection ™."

"I'm so glad she didn't give in on the blood transfusion, she's made Jehovah so happy. I know He's smiling down at her right now !."

These days...when I hear certain words...really strong emotions come up: faithful, integrity, obedience, guaranteed, happy,smiling... used to have just one definition each, now, I know the other very real meaning is... Danger.

i'm new to the board, just signed up today.. i grew up going to garland, mesquite and white rock/lake highlands congregations.

stopped associating with the jw's in the early 90's.

i'd like to meet up with some people who attended in the same areas and catch up on old times, i.e.

Methinks "mystics" are harmless enough...unless they have charisma & aggressive leadership skills and apply for jobs like imams, popes, clerics, prophets and governing body members.

*Note: I keep my mouth shut about the 'widdle voices' bouncing around in my head, because, I value my privacy. I would just hate it, if those large crowds started following me around -- again. I hate it when that happens.

In the new issue of black Christian women's magazine Precious Times, The View's Sherri Shepherd reveals that her life was once so rough she didn't care if she died.

"My sister was heavy into drugs, and we would have to go and get her from crack houses," Shepherd, 41, says.

At the time, the stand-up comic — then a Jehovah's Witness – was "in a very physically abusive relationship," she said. "I was sleeping with a lot of guys and had more abortions than I would like to count."

She said her self-esteem became so low, "I felt if someone killed me, it wouldn't even make a difference."

But after converting to Christianity, she said, "God showed me that it would make a difference."

(Shepherd has also said she relied on her faith to get through her split with husband Jeff Tarpley, father of their 3-year-old son. During their seven-year marriage, Tarpley cheated on her and got another woman pregnant.)

Still, Shepherd admitted it is tough talking religion on the popular ABC chat-fest. (She received criticism after she once remarked that ancient Greeks persecuted Christians, even though Christ hadn't been born yet.)

"Oh, sometimes I say, 'Lord, Juanita Bynum or Joyce Meyer would be so good at this table. They could lay hands on Barbara Walters and get her saved,'" she said.

"I ask the Lord, 'Why am I here?'" Shepherd added. "I have to trust God when He says, 'Because I said so.'"

I am absolutely against the Iraq war, but, if our soldiers are willing and then ordered into harm's way...they should be treated as honored defenders. It seems like every day there's a story about a soldier and their family being kicked out of their homes while they are on active duty. Or, as this story shows, the soldiers are simply 'used up' even for propaganda purposes and come back broken mentally and/or physically, then simply 'let loose' to figure out the aftermath of the governments egotistic decisions.

I had trouble reading this whole article to my wife. It's like watching a train wreck where you know what's going to happen in advance -- and cannot interfere.
