Hey Englishman,
I haven't spoken to you on the board yet, but thanks for telling the story and i'm glad you're feeling so much better now.
I studied depression last year in my course and was actually quite shocked by the way we as med students study it. All is related to the brain and the receptors and everything that goes wrong....except for the social factors! We studied medications as well and i think it was very wise of you to stop, now you've actively learned to deal with it yourself instead of with medications that you would otherwise probably still on if they helped for fear to get it again. Depression so widely known and diagnosed is often so badly treated. I'm glad it worked out fine for you, i have seen so many patients for whom it didn't. Good for you!

"Weak People Become Jehovah's Witnesses"
by minimus insomebody recently expressed that point of view to me.
do you agree with that??

Hi astro-girl,
Welcome! I'm new around here too and have found the site very useful as well.
For the question: i wouldn't call it weak, but people that tend to ask questions about the world join the JWs because they provide some answers, false ones in my opinion but they do play at those people in the fieldwork. They seek the desilusioned ones, people that just lost a beloved one etc. Somehow these people do lose their will to question everything when they join the JWs. So i wouldn't call it weak, but just people that need someone else to provide them with answers.

What Did you Plan On Doing In The New System?
by minimus inevery child and bible student was told about how wonderful the "new system" was going to be.
"and what animal do you want to have in the new system?
"......that was a very typical question.

well first of all: i always wanted to be a doctor so paradise kind of blows if you are without the job you've always wanted to do.....
second of all: i'm not so fond of nature...i mean i like it and all, am a vegetarian and always buy biological stuff, but if i have to live continuously in some kind of farm i would kill myself....
third of all: God kills a lot of people right in armageddon....so aren't we suppose to clear all the rotting bodies first.....and clear all the mess of the destroyed buildings.....that would take us about 100 years to do anyway....

Hmmm what did i do...?
by medstudent inmy first question on the board... .
well i was browsing through the website of my former high school and i ran into an emailaddress of a former friend.
so i decided to email her.

Thanks for the advice :)
She indeed didn't ask me, but there is one more complicating factor i didnt tell you. Although she has moved to another country her family (JW) still lives here, and they are in the same cong as my aunt and uncle who are very JW and shun me a little. She also asked me whether i'm still in contact with some of the friends we shared in the cong. What do i say? Just 'no we lost touch?' or 'no because i got dfd'?
Maybe it's all not so important, but i just don't her to find out and then thinking that im some kind of hypocrit not telling her, but i also don't want to lose contact by telling. 'sigh'
Thanks for the advice again, mouthy i'm inclined to follow your advice but still have to sleep a night on it i suppose.
She herself entered law school though a few years ago, but she told me that she is married, so i suppose she is still a JW because she is only 22 and married....

Hi all,
My first question on the board...
Ok so what did i do? Well I was browsing through the website of my former high school and i ran into an emailaddress of a former friend. So I decided to email her. Somehow I didn't even think about the fact that she is a JW and i'm not because religion somehow was not something we ever discussed. After high school she moved to another country and we lost touch. Only when I got a very enthusiastic reply of her today did i think of that fact. So what to do now? I mean she obviously is still a JW i got disfellowshipped.
So what should i do? Should i just tell her 'yep i'm doing great' or should I tell her i am disfellowshipped? Somehow i feel that i owe it to her but i'm not sure what to do cause it is so nice to hear from her again.
Hope to hear your advice,

After 12 yrs..contacted my old ex-witness pal!!!
by Huxley ini was at a party on christmas eve, and i met a girl who just happened to be visiting from chicago.
the subject of religion and common global religious myths came up.
we talked for a long time about some books we had both read by joseph campbell about the power of myth.

Hey all of you, congrats with the newfound friendships!
I'm so happy to hear that there are some sensible people in the world!
My best friend ditched me when she found out i was doing some 'bad stuff' even before if was dfd. and i have the feeling that she actually transferred that information to the elders and she was one of the reasons that i was dfd. Well i'm actually grateful otherwise it would have take maybe years before i actually left. We were in high school together and look at her: still living at home and she is spending all her time at the religion and is working as well for like 3 bucks an hour, and look at me: med student with a great career, true friends and im in a fraternity and all fun stuff. Still i hope that she will one day recognise the hypocracy and will decide to leave them as well. If i still believed in a god i would pray for her.

Hi again,
Your replies made me smile, thank you :)
It is so funny that a religion so horrible in my eyes attracted people as nice as you. I'm looking forward to being a member and reading the posts.

Dear all,
I am new here and not quite sure how to use this forum, but i guess ill learn in time. It's funny really, i've browsed through this site before when i was still a JW and honestly thought that have you people are nuts, but hey now i'm an ex-JW as well.....and can think clearly for the first time in years.
What can I tell about myself? Well i'm a medstudent, 21 yrs old and am enjoying life really. I was a 4th generation JW, and grew up in this compelling religion. I'm glad to be out. I joined a sorority last year and wow JW's really don't like it if you have a life beside the religion! Well then they found out that my boyfriend is not JW and they pretty much drew their own conclusions and df'd me. Luckily my family treat me the same as they always did: with love and care. They still believe that i'll return someday, that someday i'll understand that the 'wild life' is nothing compared to a religious life. But for now they've accepted my choices.
So hmm why did i join when i'm so happy? Somehow i find myself a little alienated from the normal world, don't know what to do in circumstances that are so normal for others, e.g. dating and birthdays. I also find it very difficult for some reason that my mother-in-law is so reasonable about sex between me and him. She doesn't even mind that we sleep in her bed when she is on a holiday. My friends say it is all normal, but if i compare it to my parents who find it hard to even like him....it is such a different world!
Anyway i'm really happy with everything but still adapting to this world, still need to learn how to enjoy the good life!
I hope to find some answers on this site, and have enjoyed reading personal stories.
