I'm also a victim of that "grey rule." Maybe victim isn't the right word as I don't really want to speak to anyone from the congregation. My ex committed adultery and left me. After a while I quit attending meetings. One of the elders had me over for dinner with his family (which he did often after my marriage broke down, fair play to him) after I had stopped going to meetings. He suggested a shepherding call, which I refused, saying it wouldn't do much good. He hasn't spoken to me since. I met his wife once in town on a Sunday afternoon. I was having lunch with my daughters at a restaurant and she walked in with her children. She could barely speak to me--out of embarassment, I felt. They actually walked out. Her adult daughter said to me "we're going somewhere else so Mom won't be so embarassed." Poor woman, she had probably been told by her husband not to speak with me, I was as good as DA (read DEAD) to him.

un resolution to ban religion

What if:
This resolution is passed.
Tribulation ensues (staged by the instigators).
Theocratic world order emerges from the induced chaos, under "anointed" leadership. (Kings and priests y'all).
Maybe it's an Illuminist plot and we are its pawns.
Just a thought. -

Spankings at the hall.
by avishai ini knew some parents who really beat the hell out of their kids.
anyone else remember this?
seems like when i was a kid, you could'nt go to a meeting without hearing screams of pain from either the b room or the bathrooms.

There is a lot of pressure to keep the children quiet. My ex used to get *furious* at the dirty looks from the "good witnesses" (who were usually childless) when one of our children wasn't still. This sort of treatment drove her away years before I quit. After she left I used to take the kids (poor kids), and I started to notice the dirty looks myself.

You'll die if you don't go to meetings
by Bonnie_Clyde inlast sunday's watchtower admits (p. 17) that "we are not under the mosaic law.
" but in the next paragraph it says that just as the tithing arrangement was not optional for the israelites, meeting attendance is also not optional for christians.
the first page of the february 2004 kingdom ministry tells us why.

Faraon Yes this was a precept of the church, "to assist at Mass on Sundays." Perhaps my memory fails me, but it was impressed on me (which is perhaps more to the point) that it was a mortal sin to miss Mass on Sundays. (Unless you were ill). And as for those graven images, they were just to help us visualise! =)

Why does God allow people to develop 'forbidden' special powers?
by SM62 insomething i have been wondering about lately.. whether you believe in god or not, are a christian or some other religion or no religion at all, i'd be interested in your opinion.. according to those who believe in the bible including most christians, god condemns the use of 'special' powers/abilities.
for example, esp, tarot, astrology, consulting a medium, spells etc.
however, if god created us, did he not give us the ability to develop and use such powers?

If observation is the standard by which we judge reality we can only affirm that what we observe is real. We cannot deny that which we do not observe. We can only affirm that we have not observed it, and express doubt.

So much for "neutrality"
by onacruse inahhh, how that theme was beat into our heads!
not to even think a political thought, of any kind.. here's a little tad, from light 1 pp.
britain boasts that she rules the waves and that the sun never goes down on her domains and that she always takes the part of humanity.

The way I used to see it as a JW was that "we" were neutral in that we didn't take sides in political questions, but that "we" also knew that the world was "in the power of the wicked one," therefore critical remarks seen in WTBTS publications reflected our abhorrence of Satan's system. Like so many other issues, "neutrality" was one I silently doubted. But I suppressed my doubts because "this is the truth." Actually this acceptance of contradiction is much like that found in politics, where one must, to gain status, compromise one's beliefs and accept the "party line." The WTBTS is adept at presenting plausible doctrines and enforcing adherence to these doctrines through control of membership of and status in the organisation. While certain teachings did appeal to me when I was studying, others did not: it was (how pitiful this sounds now) the benefits of membership that helped me "accept" the teachings I did not, deep down, believe.

My favorite show as a child. Does anyone remember Dancing Bear? I loved the music he used to intersperse in the show accompanied by puppet shows and such. Many of them linger in my memory to this day. We even had a record in our house of Captain and friends singing songs like Johnny One Note and Waltzing Matilda. He was a great friend to children. He introduced us to the world around us in a wonderful way.

Traditional Catholic teaching is that you will burn in hell for missing Mass on Sunday (it is a mortal sin). Their authority for this doctrine is buried in antiquity.
