What album make you feel better?

is there a certain album that you own that just makes you feel a hell of a lot better?

for me, it's cinderella's "still climbing" album.

it's about life in general, about how it sucks, but you gotta make it work for yourself.

I am not familiar with Buckley so I will have to check out some of his music. In the recent thread about meeting celebrities I mention my encounter with Bob Mould. Another record which is uplifting to me in an odd way is "Katy Lied" by Steely Dan. Listening to these songs about wall street hustlers (Black Friday) paranoid schizophrenics (Bad Sneakers) drug addicts (Dr. Wu) perverts (Everyone's Gone To The Movies) and gamblers (Your Gold Teeth II) always makes me feel better about myself because at least I am not as bad off these people are.

Warehouse: Songs and Stories by Husker Dü.

What an excellent choice! I would pick "New Day Rising" myself! That'll get your blood pumping! I also love to play their debut "Land Speed Record" for a cathartic release. That album is poorly recorded and sloppily played but the ferocious intensity and passion make it thoroughly invigorating for me. By the way FlyingHighNow really loves "She Floated Away" from Warehouse

As for Kucinich, I really like him, but agree he doesn't have a chance, but I wish he did. He also doesn't LOOK Presidential, which is a sad thing to say, but it's true.

I totally agree. He is the only candidate that I agree with on just about every issue. Andy

100% Right Simon! My mother, who got into an accident at the end of last year, used her walker to go and vote in the Michigan Democratic Caucus for John Kerry. This is a person whose very first vote was for Barry Goldwater and voted for almost all Republican presidents including Nixon, Ford, Reagan, and the elder Bush. There was a report on ABC news about one of our economically troubled cities nearby and the lifelong Republican mayor who has never voted for a Democrat for president is seriously considering it. At my place of work many of the young people cannot go see doctors when they are sick because they cannot afford to. A lot of people are struggling hard right now and Bush is oblivious to it. Andy

Has Anyone Ever Met Any Celebrities?

this is a spin-off of another thread where my *mild and chaste* friend, mouthy, admitted to wanting to meet her dream man, tom jones, and that she would even go so far as to throw her bloomers at him, if that is what it would take to get his attention!

well, the mental picture this painted was far too much for me to bear, so i encouraged her to save her red polka-dotted "unmentionables", not only because she might need them in the future, but because i didn't think she'd have to go that far to get his attention.

and i said that - because of a personal experience with him.

I sure did Huxley! In fact I felt as if I was in a Zen Arcade! (sorry ha ha ha ha) I am also a real big fan of The Minutemen. While Husker Du is my favorite band from the eighties The Minutemen are definitely the most unique of that era. I especially love "The Punch Line" and "What Makes a Man Start Fires?" Thank you Valis. I met him and talked with him for a little while. It was probably 15 minutes but it was so exciting that it seemed like an hour. Someone had to come up to me and whisper in my ear that "Other people would like to talk to Bob" and so I finally left him alone but he was very nice to talk to. Andy AKA Shaft (Can you dig it?)

In March of 2000 Senator John Mc Cain (R - Arizona) came to a rally in my state of Michigan campaigning for the Republican Presidential nomination. Even though I usually abhor right wing politicians I was greatly impressed with him prior to his visit to Grand Rapids and was excited at the chance to see him in person. After he spoke I went and shook his hand and he autographed my Mc Cain 2000 sign. He did win Michigan but sadly his campaign went downhill after that. I have also met Brian Lamb of CSPAN fame and got his autograph too. If anyone listens to the NPR show "Fresh Air" then you will know the host Terry Gross. I met her and have her autograph as well. There is a rather obscure American rock band from the Eighties called Husker Du and I met the guitarist Bob Mould and he signed the cover of the Husker Du tape "Candy Apple Gray" Andy (Shaft)
