Friends we are too unbalanced.
by sleepy inwell sometimes we are.. look we have the knowledge and experience to help a lot of people.must of us have one time been jw's and understand how many think.so lets not put them off by being too negative.. when we were witnesses most of us were quite happy .
we tried to be good people , to put into practise principles that many people think are good.
we did this sometimes even when we didn't want to , because we thought god would hold us accountable and because we cared for people .

I don't think one can. There would be NO WTS without it's followers.
The people ARE the Org. It's always been my opinion that if the Rank and File demanded to celebrate Xmas, and when the GB resisted,
and members started to leave in droves, there would be a very sudden "new light" on the practice.Argue all you want about brainwashing, etc. Witnesses ought to be held to the same standard of decency as everyone else. They have choices too.

My point being that "love" is meaningless without the behavior (action) to back it up.
Also, unconditional love, which I don't think exists, is not the same as loving someone despite their faults.

My father just beat my brother-
by ashitaka inone more topic.. my wife just called up to tell me that she was over my parents before a doctor's visit, chatting with my mother, when my crazed jw father threw my small 14 year old brother down the stairs and punched him for not wanting to study.. i've been beat, thrown down stairs, had potted plants thrown at me, chased around the house, and such, for not wanting to do the family study.. this is what the "truth" does to people, all you loyal jw's....take note...... (i'm so angry i'm shaking).

Ashi,
I think that everyone here has posted from the heart. The subject of child abuse is something that will get most of us riled up because so many have experienced it first hand, like you. When some of us have posted advice to you, it is through the glasses of our own personal experiences.
It is your option to, perhaps, apply those advisements. With Laree so fresh on everyone's mind, we know how completely out of control these type of situations can get. However, you do know your own personal situation best. We all just want tragedy to be avoided. I, myself, don't want you to think I am critical of what course of action you have taken so far. I know you think that what you are doing, for the time being, is in the best interests of your brother.
You certainly got all sorts of input here. I'm glad you are keeping us updated on your family situation. My thoughts are with you and your family.

I have noticed that too. I remember, before she hit it big (early 80's), and Weird Al was doing a mock interview with her using clips from other interviews. She was chewing a big wad of gum, twirling her hair with her fingers, and talking like a New Yawwwwker. Weird Al would edit in all these bogus questions. It was hysterical.
Now, when I see interviews with her, she sounds like those old Mid-Atlantic accents that women used to talk like in films of the 30s and 40's.
Not only does her "look" change with time, apparently, so does her accent.

High Achieving Women
by Thirdson insome of you are aware of my feelings about the role of women in the christian congregation and know i chose a female priest (and someone who is now a good friend) to conduct thirdson and mrs. thirdsons wedding.
what got me thinking was yesterdays review of the results of the "all colleague survey" with my manager when we discussed where we as department were doing well and where we needed improvement.
my boss scored an approval rating of over 85% on nearly every topic.

With all due respect. Taking into consideration where women rank within the Society. With the WTS's view on higher education, they also make it difficult to be a high acheiving man.
That being said, I do not know of one high acheiving female that was also an active witness. They are just not compatable.

Ashi,
First off, I am so sorry you have to carry such a heavy burden as this. The pressure, and worry, you feel right now, must be tremendous.
I know you are trying to do your best under the circumstances.
No, you don't have a LEGAL right to make your brother do what he doesn't want to do. However, he is ONLY 14. He is still a child and not old enough to judge what is in his best interests. Yes, there is a small chance, taken your Father's past history, that violence won't happen again. Well, YOU seem to know his history well. What do you think will eventually happen? Most likely it will happen again, and perhaps with more serious consequences.
I know that you don't want to make anyone mad at you. Your Mom and your Brother. What is more important? Your brother's physical safety and maybe his anger at you, or leaving him be with what might happen to him in the future. I just think you should think about that.
5 years from now, I just hope you don't have any regrets about what action you didn't take.
I remember when I became an adult, and I realized that many of my Mother's family members knew what a tyrant my Dad was and that he abused my Mom and us kids. I oftened wondered why they did NOTHING but turn the other way and pretend ignorance. I will always remember their inaction.
I'm sure your brother knows you care about him very much. At least he has that.
Just because it may be difficult to remove him from the situation, doesn't mean you shouldn't try.
Are you informed as to what the laws are in your state? Here in cali, an arrest does NOT have to be made in order to remove a kid from a violent home. There only has to be a suspicion of abuse. A child can be removed for 72 hours. Then, there is a court hearing as to whether or not the child will be returned or removed for an indefinite period of time. Make yourself an expert on your states laws in this area.
Anyway, my thoughts are with you and your brother.
