Another thing she said is that the doctors are out for money. That they will tell me anything to get the money. That they are looking out for themselves and etc. I'm like they aren't used car salesmen! They aren't trying to swindle me into the surgery. But that's how my mom always thought that that is how people in the "world" are.

If you and your mom are close buddies, she could be afraid that this will change you and that you will meet some nice man and go off and live your own life.
That's the thing we WERE close buddies and we're not anymore due the fact that I'm disfellowshipped. The only reason she'll talk to me about the surgery is because it's a "business" issue. She even feels guilty about that. that she shouldn't be talking to me about it as much as she should.

First, let me give you some background. I'm 24 years old 5'7" and I weigh 285. I'm a big girl! So I am currently going through the process of having gastric bypass surgery. I should find out if I'm approved by next week. Anyway, my mom is not happy about it at all. A) She's afraid that I will need a blood transfusion. B.) she's afraid I'll die...but the most important is that she's afraid that once I lose the weight I'll become more attractive to men and I'll meet someone and I won't come back to the "truth"!?!?!?
Now no where is she considering my health. that being overweight is unhealthy and I could end up with some serious diseases down the road. None of that...just i'm afraid you'll meet a man. Well surprise I'm already seeing someone so how is it going to make a difference. It just hurts that that is one of the reasons as to why she doesn't want me to have the surgery. That she'd think I was that vain!

"If anyone calls himself a BROTHER ,"...................
by gumby in5:9-11, says that anyone who .....calls himself a brother and is a fornicator, idolater, drunkard and such, is not to be greeted or have a meal shared with them.
the witnesses of course, apply this to anyone who calls themselves a witness, and is any of those things, yet still calls themselves a witness.. the problem i always had understanding is......if a person does not call himself a "brother" ( a witness) any longer, then how do they justify applying it to those who choose not to be recognised as such any longer?
in the niv footnote section which gives a short commentary on scriptures.....it plainly says this applies to any who call themselves christians, and do these things.

A friend and I had a conversation about that once....we can't come to a logical conclusion on that.

Right now I'm driving a 1993 Geo prizm. That's right...but it runs like a champ. I don't need a new car but I want one. I'm looking at the Mazda6's. I want a 2004. They are sharp. I want a sportier car...but I'm still in the four door mind frame. I'm also thinking about the Ford Escape.

My question is regards to family though. Does missing your mother ever get easier? Does not wanting to hurt her or even others in the congregation get easier? That's the hardest part. I miss my mother so much. but going back to simply have a relationship with her isn't fair to her or myself. So what is a person to do? I'm ok most days but when I'm checking my mail and my mother drives by and looks at me and doesn't beep and wave, yeah that's hard. I don't know...and I don't know if it's my upbringing but I have this need to please people and do things that will make them happy and love me. I know that I'm doing that right now in her eyes. So does missing your mom ever get easier?

Here's a story that always stuck out to me. There were two sisters in field service and they were knocking at a door. The dog was barking and they knocked again. The dog came around the corner and SAID "Nobody is home" The sisters ran away and the dog chased them. The one sister tripped and fell and just as the dog was going to attack she shoved a Watchtower in it's mouth and the dog just turned and walked away. I've heard that one for years.

Blondie makes an excellent point. There are so many different reasons as to why a person develops a mental illness it isn't fair or correct to place that blame on a religion.
