Tattoos.....
by Agent Smith inmore bs from the org..... its ok for women to tattoo lipstick and other make-up crap on their face, but its not ok for anyone else to get a tattoo anywhere else on their body?
there was a sister at our cong that got her lips and her eyebrows tattood.
she announced it to eveyone in the cong, so it was no big secret.

Interesting, Leviticus 19:28 it was indeed.
Ok nevertheless I would say that banning all tatoos would be like putting on blinkers. This is a little bit like hairsplitting to me but here it comes anyhow: A cosmetic tatoo does not form any picture. What we usually associate with the word "tatoo" is a symbol or picture of something. In the ancient times when that Leviticus verse applied the people tatooed themselves because of religious reasons.
I say only a buroucratic mind would bann _all_ kind of tatoos. Meaning cosmetic type of tatoos now.
Do you usually paint eagles, skulls or crosses on your body? Women do paint themselves with make-up every day.

Ex-Mormons? Ex-Pentecostals? Ex-Wikkas? Ex-catholics (lol) ? etc ?
If not, then i wonder what makes ex-JWs to seek contact to other ex's, what hidden message is there?

Letter to Mom and Dad opinions wanted
by freelife inhello friends, i wanted to post this here and get some opinions on it before i take the big step of sending it to my parental units.
dear mom and dad,
dad i was surprised to hear from you the other day.

Instead of attacking your parents or their religion you should stress that you love them.
Attacking them is the worst possible thing you can do.
For loves sake, for family sake. For blood is thicker than water.
Something along the lines of "live and let live in mutual respect and family love" would sound better to me.

What Is The Stupidest Rule You've Encountered As a Witness?
by minimus inone rule that i never could understand is that if you were studying with an unbelieving husband, you could associate with him, even as couples, but if a person was considered a "weak" witness, it was best to avoid any association until that person changed......what dumb rule or belief comes to your mind??

Now that you mention "Gestapo" like activity.. hehe...
I remember once a funny situation. There was this married sister who went to the bus station to receive her visiting real life brother. When her brother did arrive they kissed each other greeting each other. The wife of some elder saw that and reported that to her husband.
What happened next is that this sister was taken aside by that elder and asked what that "scene" was all about? Kissing another man who she is not married too.The sister replied more or less like this: "You have sofar not a single time approached me for anything, so I welcome this situation that we can finally speak and know each other. That man was my brother. Next time inform yourself better before you come forward with swift accusations. And i would welcome your wife to first try to speak to me before she hurls out accusations"
I dont remember all the details, the elder sure was shamefully red headed afterwards.

Well...
generally spaking... some people sure have strange views on how to interpret or apply certain issues...
When I was expressing romantic interest in a young sister suddenly some people with or without any privileges had the urgency to give me unasked stern advice. Then again, some rules are there as a way of protection, that can't be denied. Just as you should adopt the "rule" of not crossing a red light for it might be "harmful to your healt", hehe.
Maybe some JWs have strange ways to interpret or apply certain "rules", then again on this board I read some sure equally fanatic views on other issues.
The human factor is the big variable here. You can't condemm a whole organization because some oh-so-smart elder applied a rule in a fancy way.
Lol i remember once i had to remove a red cross sticker from my car, i had donated some money -no blood mind you- and the cross symbol was offensive.

Pleasuredome:
I have been there, on the receiving end, so i know about it. Twice had i a judicial meeting. The second time i got kicked (disfellowed?).
I was young and did not really know what i wanted. So I planned nothing.
The first year after that i felt rather "strange" to be honest, but you grow to get used to it.
Yes overall my experience was rather positive, I only disliked the door to door going (Although in the Bible Jesus personally commanded all to do so). And I dont like the high frequency of weekly meetings.
I read a lot of magazines, Newsweek, National Geographic, Times, you name it, but still I usually used Awake for Shool assignments for the content of the magazines was rather good, just strip away the bible references and you have nice articles for shool assignments. If you wish to leave the organization and you are called to a judicial meeting, just state your firm point of view right at the beginning and tell them respectfully that you dont wish to continue and that you don't wish to spend more time at this particular meeting. Then walk up and out of the room. They can't force you to be there for hours, they only continue for hours when you allow that to happen.
One thing is for sure, they should not allow too young people to get baptized. That is a real big stupidity IMO. Every person "matures" at a different age, I was not when i got baptized, my bad. -

Some of you suggest calling the police? C'mon get a life! you make it sound like the JW are some sort of mind controlling oriental sect, which they are not. Although some "apostatas" claim so (I wonder what particular experiences they had).
Overall they are nice people. With a strong conviction but nevertheless nice.
Butterfliez, go to the meeting, always be respectful, for they will treat you with respect too, no matter which way you choose to go.
The elders are not there to brainwash you nor to push you into anything you don't want to. At least all the elders I ever meet where people with their feets safely on the ground. They will cite from the Bible, a lot.One of the thing they may wish to gauge is if you fear men (your grandmother, them [the elders]) or if you fear God. If you are honest with them, explaining that you think you have been "pushed too early" into this or maybe only because of familiy pressure or whatever your particular situation is, and you explain that you need some time off. I guess they would have to respect that.
If for example it turns out that your family has been pressure cooking you into being a JW then the elders would have the duty to confront your family, not you, so as to have your familiy drop or reduce the pressure. The society does not want to "force" anybody, quite to the contrary.
It is also important to be clear if you belive that they have the truth or not. You may believe the truth is there but dislike preaching, the meetings, etc. be clear about what exactly you dislike. If you just want "out" then respectfully say so. If you want a "time-out" to reconsider and think about matters, then respectfully say so.
All that said, i guess it can be psycologically heavy to suddenly loose all your friends in the sense that nobody will even talk to you (You call that disfellowship in english?). That is why i would suggest to go a non-confrontational way and just quietly wither away afterwards if you want to. That also leaves you the option to continue being a JW if after a time you think that is the way for you.
At the end of the road this situation is pretty unique for each individual is different.
