Was there ever a GOOD time to be a JW?

considering the history of the "organization", and how beliefs, practices and attitudes have changed through time, was there ever any time that a "international bible student" or jw was relatively more enlightened or had more freedoms than members of other religions?

or have they always been enslaved to one set of superstitious beliefs or another, to a greater degree than most other religions?

Russell's Deathbed Recant?

today i was talking to someone who is a history professor.

he said that he heard that, on his deathbed, russell admitted that the whole religion was just something that he made up for profit.

i've never heard anything like this and kind of dismissed it.

do you feel posting on JWD helps or hinders your recovery?

sometimes i wonder if posting on this site helps me "recover" from the trauma that the witnesses put me through, and have no doubt it does at times.

no where else is there such a support team of individuals who know personally what you've been through and how you feel.

but at the same time, i often wonder if coming on here causes me to obsess in a way, preventing me from "moving on" with my life.

Theologically speaking, Jehovah’s Witnesses are a family hurtful cult of Christianity. The oppressive organization does not represent logical historical facts, sociologically; it is a destructive cult whose false teachings frequently result in spiritual and psychological abuse, as well as needless deaths.

I understand the dictionary definition of an "apostate" and I suppose that definition fits me. However, I have my own definition, which makes me more comfortable as it does not fit me. I (and it is my opinion that is important to me not one that benefits a religious organization) one should in all seriousness apply the term apostate to those that have knowingly bent and twisted the word of the God in the Bible to their own advantage. Using my definition makes the WTS an apostate organization (one of many). I don't like apostates and this means that I don't like the WTS the word draconian fits how they deal with their baptized members under the pretense of love.

I never did enjoy being judgmental namely the (Governing Body) rules are supreme - elder, pioneer, ms, co, do, governing body, weak, strong, active, inactive, in the truth, worldly, pagan, on and on. Every label gave you a mental picture of how to treat, love, hate, ignore and or otherwise judge the person on the receiving end of that label. Apostate is a simple term - it means to leave basically, - but they have made us a mental image of 'evil slave'.

By the way I am a real 'apostate' - a good one - most witnesses would like to be as good as a lot of 'apostates' but if you think about it don’t the watchtower Society’s 'label' everything? If it was really part of the "New Light," that god miraculously sent to them somehow if it would have been right in the first place, and would not need updating. From time to time. So what is current light now may very well be old light next year, and at times it has. Why would Jehovah give them the wrong understanding to begin with? If they are god’s spirit directed organization that Christ has chosen to use during this time period?

my boss answered the phone and she said that they were like, id like to share a scripture with you, read the scripture and was like now if you grab your bible, and she was like i dont have a bible and they said well, when someone comes by for a talk, and she was like, you cannot come here, this is a place of business.. .

I used to place a Watchtower in my back window and count the time that I drove around, hell I used to even make sure it was there on the back window when I went on a fishing trip and carried a few mags with me also to leave on the camping tables, I thought I was really earning my way to salvation "woo hoo" as long as I sold and scattered their mags and books around I was sure to have a relationship with Jehovah and Jesus Christ.

Why I even left them at Zeeks Bar and grill near Flaming Gorge WY, by doing so it made me feel better about drinking five "Harvey Wall Bangers" when I went in to buy crushed ice and Mep Spinners and of course more beer.

recently i posted a thread that i no longer wish to take part in discussions here as i felt uncomfortable wt bashing.

however, i feel that i have to start posting if only from time to time as i am at a very different stage as i was only 4 weeks ago.

i know i haven't been 'disfellowshipped' from here, even though i've disagreed with forum rules recently or have i 'disassociated' myself from this board as i still feel myself drawn to it.. i'll try to be brief with this, but the content could be drawn out.. as some of you are aware i have been battling alcoholism or alcohol dependency as i prefer to call it now (thats another story).

Shunned again

my son called me yesterday, first time in probably 6 weeks, because he lost his car keys, the car is in my name, so i had to get another set from the dealership.

anyways, it doesn't really matter what he called about, it was just in 6 weeks he only calls because he needs something, not a peep before that (very hurtful).

a brother drove him to my office and it was quittin time so i went outside with him and gave him the keys, i was hurt and didn't say much to him.

Did you work on quick builds or other projects just to avoid meetings?

i was part of the north texas quick build group for some five years and we seemed to be building a new hall about every six weeks.

i was also up at the denton (krum) assembly hall for most weekends in 1990 and 91 as the hall was being built.

how many of you joined these work groups just to get out of meeting attendance and field service?

I went to one many years ago and they had this mallet head acting as a forman he asked me if I knew how to make a truse rench out of two tow by fours, I said yeah sure, he came and looked at it and said "what do you want to do kill the brothers and sisters working on this hall build" saying it front of everyone real loud. I did not take kindly to being insulted in front of everone like that so I knocked him head over heels on his ass, after that I never went to one again. The stupid ass, their food was crappy anyway.
