That is subjective and doesn’t specifically address WHEN. Soon, very soon, very very soon, very, very very soon could mean in a couple of minutes or in a 1000 years depends on how you define soon. Why JW are loyal and that gt is coming soon even if it takes another 2000 years does not explain when.

When doesn’t depend on loyalty. Or on how soon it feels or is or on how you play with the word soon.

Great tribulation or bust is the motto assuming the correctness of 1914: “ “My words will never pass away” is recorded in all 3 gospels.

The subject here is not why but WHEN.

We at JW always figured that the 1914 generation would experience the complete sign of Jesus’s parousia including the “great tribulation”.

i would like to ask the ex-jws on this site to put their ‘apologists hat’ back on for a moment, so that i can go through the overlapping generation teaching in an attempt to make sense of it.

i apologise if these points have already been addressed on this site.a quick background for the reason for my request… having never confronted a jw apologist on the topic, i recently engaged with a jw regarding the official understanding of a ‘generation’ and unfortunately he didn’t have an answer to the points i was making.

i was left a little confused as to what the official jw response would/should be.so i was hoping that my thoughts below might be considered from an apologist’s perspective.the point in question relates to this section of the watchtower article below from 2008, as well as the jw.org video explanation of the overlapping generation:---:w08 2/15[box on page 25] can we calculate the length of “this generation”?the word “generation” usually refers to people of various ages whose lives overlap during a particular time period or event.

As a preschooler back in the 60’s, I remember a lot of people from the 1800’s. My great great grandparents were alive at the time born in the 1850’s who knew people that lived in the 1700’s, so I talked to people that talked to people from the 1700’s.

Why believe in a god?

if you consider that the god they believe in:.

- cannot be seen or heard and is only known in books written by writers we do not know nor do we have the original writings- does not listen to prayers from believers for security, safety, health, survival, protection, rescue, food etc- promises things that have not come true though had plenty of time to act on the promises- does not provide what you need to live- let's you suffer, struggle, work etc equal to non-believers, treated equally.

........ how does a believer look at his/her parents if they hide themselves, do not provide for you (shelter, food etc), make promises but never live up to these, does not provide what you need to live, treats you like anyone else but not as their child?

f you aren’t capable of violence when necessary then you will be a victim.

Legally, when you stop being a victim legally, then you become an assailant and can be accused, prosecuted and sued. The only people that get away with violence are criminals and cops. Law abiding citizens go to jail or are compelled to pay their sweet assailant or robber or mugger or burglar or molester. If you don’t give a hoot, be ready to pay and have a lot of fun in legal proceedings justifying your violence or in jail.

kingdom halls will be the thing of the past.. conventions (mini assembly halls will still be going on) but will charge for attending and parking and always a donation.

elders will play a much smaller role since csa.

cart preaching will replace door to door.

I don’t think there are any more predicted dates by WT. Everybody is braced and in expectation. That nothing will happen is unthinkable. The core of JW will see it through even if they day of old age. Also, seems like there is expansion of media studios etc so the preaching work is full steam ahead. JW in general are not giving up the faith and people no matter how few are still coming in. JW religion is not going away.

1975 on the back burner

“1975” still marks 6000 years from the creation of adam in wt calendar.

according to “all scriptures inspired” book, there is a gap between the creation of adam and the creation of eve and her marriage to adam.

it was at that point in time when eve was created that marked the end of the 6th creative day and the beginning of god’s rest, the 7th day as recorded in genesis.
