  New Boy, there were 2 types of sewing machines: one used for sewing Bibles (free sheet) and the other for the hard back books. I think John Adams was Bindery overseer at the time, and after you left Sydlik was the anointed brother they put in charge. I don't remember his title. You could not have said it better, those Smythe machines were torture devices and would have broken "Cool Hand Luke" himself and time stood still working on them: "break your backs" when fliping those signatures on the saddle or you could get a jam and break needles. And don't forget to -hit that glue bar! The end sheet gluer was engineered inhouse and took a couple of brothers to run it -if I recall. Don't forget card cutters. Did you work on 3/5 or on Building 2? After you left, I remember Smyth machines on 2/7 and bindery lines on 2/8. Long time ago. Hard to remember. I also remember Bibles and Aid Books being sewn on 3/5.

  ..But those lines on the 5th floor are as you describe; the monotony was hard to endure Just the thought of working there was sobering. -Spaced out but no chance of faking out. But the cream of all jobs in the bindery was bindery maintenance, fixing and servicing the bindery machines because it didn't involve production.

  Sparky, I never knew that. Sad story. I don't remember anyone looking at Bill disdainfully. Brothers noded to him and he noded back.

  Not everyone that wanted to get married and applied to bring their female in was accepted. A lot were rejected and they got angry when they had to leave if they chose to get married. I remember someone that applied, was rejected, and called off his engagement for about a year. He applied again and was accepted. But after NHK died, such case never happened again. You were not supposed to leave the sister waiting or break off the engagement. Also, I liked and respected NHK a lot. But I am human too and I don't like everybody. I find some people obnoxious and they get on my nerves but I put up.

  People in power are unavoidably forced to make decision sometimes that negatively affects someone, it can't be helped. Albeit there is no excuse for not being compassionate.

  Funny that Norris and Knorr have words in common. NHK also mostly wore the same green suit. I saw similarities in Bill's facial expressions and NHKs.

  Lots of talks to make the service "your career" in that era. Back in the day, it was actually possible to have fun too. Everything changed in time and became strict.

  He told me Bethel was first, the congregation second.

  Not that only he thought that was the case. Those were the instructions everyone received.

  I wish I had talked with him before feeling forced....

  CoCo, my heart goes out to you. I agree with you, and if you were having issues with some people there -or the system, he had the power to help you. -People up there listened to him and did what he said, even unwillingly ( without going into details.)

  He was a meat eater and one of his personal views about the lamb and wolf eating together in the Isaiah prophecy was that it referred to personalities and not literal animals. I thought it was funny.

  i just realized now, (ironically by checking on jw.org) that the echr (european court of human rights), the government agency that has been literally saving the jws to be banned in so many countries - and they are very thankful for that, as they say in their recent purple history book - is an agency of the un!.

  as it is well known, the gb consider the un as a high-class enemy of god's kingdom, believing it is the beast mentioned in revelation.

  this interpretation was totally from f. franz and n. knorr, this last one still being reagarded every now and then as the one who gave the speech with this "new light".

  Last nights CLAM meeting

  so hadn't been to a clam meeting in quite a few months, but went last night.

  so we learned that gog of magog is not satan as previously believed.

  they used a few scriptures that made it clear that it couldn't be satan and that it would be a coalition of nations.

  Beginning of vid showed a drawing resembling the Kremlin. The vids -more than one- being shown over and over again are suggesting something about the great tribulation. But it seems they are actually for the Russian JW who are actually experiencing what is being the depicted on the vids with the troops.

  Sis AK story is in the awake. But she was small in stature and thin and not a beauty of a female -typical jw female in personality. She remarried (Even at her age!) after NHK died. I think she went upstate - WT farms or something. I don't remember anything remarkable about her except that she always was at NHK side (nice person though.) When he passed, I don't remember seeing her again. There was another dude dressed in green called "the frog" who stood in front of 124 apostizising and he had it in for bro NHK. He also disappeared when NHK died. My heart went out to those that worked in the laundry, especially the sisters. It was an oven down there. Those fans didn't help.

  Also, not disrespect to ML's abilities and leadership.
