the FDS having God given authority over the JW..” But, I’m not getting into it.
Whether they actually have God given authority is not the issue. Based on the premise they do, is how they can make such rules is the point.Fisherman

Why Not Celebrate Christmas?
by Mum inso, jw's don't celebrate christmas or other holidays.
as bill cetnar once said, there are two reasons for everything: the reason they tell you, and the real reason.
they will tell you it's because christmas is "pagan" and can lead to all sorts of licentious conduct (like drinking too much macallan scotch?)..

the ability tosee God's hand in anything
Yeah, no matter what religion you are in too.
The Bible message is to let go and let God steer your life. Focus on doing God’s work and things will work themselves out. When things go wrong, don’t he anxious. Do the best you can and trust in God. You are not in control of your like so there is nothing you can do. Seek first tge kingdom and the other things will be added to the Christian pursuing kingdom interest. When things fall apart frustration and worries won’t help.

My opinion of JWs not approving of the holidays is not just because they say the holidays are ‘pagan’.
I see what you are saying.
The JW like to build a fence around the hole to protect JW from falling in and being swallowed up by the world, that is the reason. There is an argument that celebrating a birthday or christmas may not actually be proscribed in the Bible but there is no scriptural basis for doing it and when it has pagan roots or religious non JW links like christmas, the FDS having God given authority over the JW, have made it forbidden to JW.

Are the teachings of JW—consistent?
by Fisherman ini would belief so but if you can point something out, it can be discussed.. i don’t mean what jw taught in the past that they later realized was not correct and amended.
—unless you think and can show something like that is relevant.. i’ve spoken to a lot of believers from different religions.
i don’t want to bash any religion here under this topic but their beliefs are inconsistent and their reasons are sophistry and made up and grounded on circular reasoning.

The JW teachings are supported by scripture, add up, are consistent, and” jive” like the 4 gospels, logical, reasonable, plausible and just make sense and appeal to the mind and heart. If you disagree, please show how so.

freedom of speech and loss of rights
by enoughisenough ini was thinking about freedom of speech after watching a clip about the jw suing kevin mcfree.
they wanted to take away his freedom of speech.
but in thinking about it, that is the way of the organization, save they want to control thought as well.

Hi PON!
The Youtuber is British, mate. Like me. I'm not sure how American amendments apply to him.
Whatever the law that provides freedom of speech( in the US it is the constitution) there are contingencies that also apply. In the US, there is case law for one. But first one needs to determine the venue where the tort occurred to determine jurisdiction. If it occurred in UK, then Brit law could apply unless there are prior agreements between the counties or even terms of service agreed to on youtube, etc.

Myth of 1914
by peacefulpete inthe wt engages in history revisionism when insisting the world changed overnight in 1914. in fact the european power struggles that came to a head were centuries old.
millions of lives had been lost in the wars of the 19th century, with the world a powder keg the years prior to the assassination of franz ferdinand in june 1914 which is often said, albeit rather arbitrarily, as the start of the war that escalated over the next 4 years into the great war.
take a look at these two pages and ask if the wt's interpretation of history seems accurate to you.

Hello SBF!
Thanks for your insightful posts.
As 1914 recedes into the distant past it could remain as technical teaching, and chronological curiosity,
“By what authority do you these things?” 1914
In 1914 the kingdom was established and thereafter the FDS became Jesus’s agency on earth, not to mention the miraculous evidence experienced by FDS AND all the prophecies that have been fulfilled all tethered to 1914. The foundation of JW religion is 1914. “ God kingdom rules.” The kingdom is in place.” —What do you say now with no gt after 108 years? JW were wrong about 1914? 1914 is another 1975? The Horsemen of the apocalypse never rode? FDS never received authority, etc? It is not falsifiable that God’s kingdom was established in 1914 because that happened in the heavens according to JW and how are you going to debunk that? And to JW it is validated with empirical evidence experienced by FDS. At this time there is zero plans to jettison 1914. JW will never ever ever ever discard 1914 because JW are true believers and are in expectation of the gt as long as it takes. Unlike bro Russel’s beliefs that although wrong (as TD points out) can be reconciled because CTR was not an inspired prophet but nonetheless was right about Christ returning in that era.
I remember 1914 was in every paragraph in every publication and wt study but now as you point out—it’s gone. But although the date is not mentioned anymore as in the old days, everything JW does stands on 1914. Without 1914 JW have no standing. The establishment of the messianic kingdom in the heavens in 1914 giving FDS the authority that JW practice is well established in the minds of JW. The one and only one single issue is length of generation which even if nothing happens in the next 100 years would not affect 1914 as the year God’s kingdom was established in the heavens. It is unreasonable though that a generation linked to 1914 should last such a long time without the climaxing gt, which is part of the sign of the last days. That is the dilemma. As TD so eloquently put it once: “When do the wheels touch the ground?” And cofty observed in one of his posts that the meetings and JW are about Christian living nowdays as if the WT is no longer concerned with eschatology like in the old days. I don’t see any logical explanation that disintegrates generation from 1914 without disintegrating 1914 and 1914 is well established. There are 2 positions, looking at 1914 so far away from generation that falsifies 1914 and the way JW look at 1914 that God’s word will come true even if it seems delayed.

Also, since the JW religion isolates people, they perceive they have nowhere to go. If they are also victims of shunning the mental anguish is double. I get the sense you don’t see anything wrong with shunning.
Horsefeather. Fear of shunning or entrapment doesn’t stop people from immoral sexual conduct or doing whatever the heck they want. Utter nonsense. Take care.

JW suing Kevin McFree. They wanted to take away his freedom of speech. But in thinking about it, that is the way of the organization
The first amendment legally applies in traditional public forums. But it doesn’t apply on private property or in limited public forums. For example, the preaching work is a form of freedom of speech but you may not have the legal right to preach or disseminate your beliefs on private property. Do don’t be shocked if you don’t have freedom of speech in the “Christian Congregation.”
I don’t know the case you reference but if a person says something that causes personal injury-and I don’t mean when someone is based on 1A and says something that hurts someone’s feelings-such person can be held legally liable. 1A is not only governed by time place and manner but a person can be held liable for saying something that damages another person and that is not taking away freedom of speech.
Based on JW interpretation of the Bible, secular standards of freedom of speech don’t apply in the Christian congregation.

No, I don’t think it misrepresents the religion
Funny.
40k people get kicked out of JW yearly for adultery and other sex related sins and many thousands more for other sins such as stealing, drug use, etc. And many leave through the backdoor. And then this film claims people are in danger and trapped inside JW while nobody is afraid to sin but they are afraid of JW message that God punishes. What a bunch of boloney. If someone wants to leave JW, they just leave and live whatever life they like. Nobody bothers them. I know plenty of people that left. No DA letter no df. The problem is that some people have ties and family with other JW and they don’t like it that other JW don’t want anything to do with them and they get angry for this. Or when someone gets their feelings hurt they want to get even.

This YouTube video about the dangers of the Watchtower and Jehovah’s Witness
The vid misrepresents JW. It targets nonJW away from the org. Honest hearted JW and even JW who left know better. The Bible clearly states that God will take action against the wicked, etc. Getting angry at JW for publishing what the Bible says does not change the Bible message. It is about the message, JW is only a messenger. —Don’t want to be redundant. I am more afraid of the corrupt things children are exposed to and learning in school as normal. The people in the vid are angry people that want to get back at JW for something that hurt them, and while I do feel compassion for their pain and sincerely understand their position, a disingenuous representation of JW cannot be justified. The ulterior motive is vindictiveness.
