Remember Dateline??

i'm trying to get some comments that active jehovah's witnesses may have heard after dateline aired back on may 28, 2002.

do you remember any comments made about the dateline program either made from the platform at the kingdom hall, or in private conversations with other jw's?

how were the people who where on dateline viewed in your area, especially at the kingdom hall or by other jws?

The first site I showed my wife was the silent lambs site. It was this and all the cover by the various news orgs - including DATELINE, that helped her realized the WTS is a deceiver...She didn't even have to see the actual show ...

The talk seemed to sweep the WTBS responsibility to this issue under the rug! After all: you need a 2 person rule to turn in a pedophile (that's what the Bible says)

Code blue, Sorry. Does the bible really say this or is this a joke gone over my head? If so what passage is this in?

most people have left the organization because of emotional issues.

the feeling that there is no real love or fellow feeling seems to get at people.

I'm trying to understand what you all are going through so I can be there for my wife. I scan this site every day but can never really get a even a glimpse of what WT put every one through... b/c I don't know what to compare this to ... any lies I've ever been told did not reach deep into my mental and spiritual framework ...

This is a dark time in our lives. I can see the hopelessness in my wife's eyes. I'm trying to get her to talk to me but I think she is trying to be strong for our sake (my daughter and I). Part of it I think is that she feels she was never really in. I suspect this is a grand denial ... the effects are enough to keep her struggling with what to do and where to go next. She feels lost and confused. She thought this was the one tru religion. Her sisters are into WT big time. She feels she'll never be able to get them out.

Sometimes I feel I ripped the bandaid off too fast in showing her all that you folks have revealed to me. Now I can't stop the pain.

... not sure if I did the right thing in showing her all the websites at once, but I've been trying to get her to post here so she can let it all out and share with you ... I can feel the heart break that the truth has brough upon her ... I can imagine the thoughts going through her mind as she sits on the couch wearing the thousand mile stare ...

JC, Now were talking. This is very helpful information. Can you corrovorate? How can I prove this to loved ones who need more proof aside form the obvious reasons found in over a century of WT lies w/in their own literature.

Many (ACT) 'AS IF' they don't get it. Why? Do I really need to draw up a blueprint as to the why? It's pretty obvious, if you know what I mean. And I think ya do, sir.

I have never been a JW (never will be). I literally only found out about the Borg a week ago (still in complete shock) - in an effort to get my wife to research this org before commiting ...she wouldn't so I took initiavtive... something smelled fishy from the first KH I attended 3 years ago. And I've only been a few times since - with an open heart - in our desire to worship toghether -- as a falmily -- as it should be. I don't know what turned me off more the transparent circular logic, the suspicious referencs from obscure sources over decades old, ore the eiry illustrations I found in the WT's "literature" [for lack of a better word].

Anyway my point is I'm pretty ignorant right now to the inner workings of WT and I need proof on top of the obvious to make my point across to my wife,,,, b/c as we all know they are masters of the brainwash... so in order to exhaust some flimsy theries I have to play devil's advocate...

But back to your quote. Please elaborate.

I'm still on the fence. From a business standpoint I don't see any real sales happening. I agree that the product is paradise, but the "donations only" policy is hard to argue against. The members being the customer's is a good explaination - my wife's sister donates 10% monthly - but this is true of many other non JW religions. This makes it hard to prove that it is a paradise for profit scheme...

In the meantime - luckily there are many other smoking guns in WT's history for somone reveal the truth to a loved one...this is what I have to rely on ...

I've been scanning this forum for over a week now trying to soak up as much info as I can about the WT.

Do you really think JWs are simply the "salespeople" of the Society? I don't.

Although I am fully convinced this is a cult and the doctrine's a sham I tend to agree with minimus ... Why go through all this trouble to turn a profit via publishing. Cheap labor and a volunteer sales force aside there's got to be more to it than this ... It seems Gary's statements all lead to the obvious - brainwahing to sell "literature" (for lack of a better word). But there's still something missing in the big picture as to who is actually profiting. I've seen other posts that say to follow the money trail ... so in following the money who is profiting? WTS is profiting. But who exactly - the GB? If so why haven't DF'd former GB's exposed this [or have they and I just haven't heard] wouldn't this be the nail in the coffin?... the only profiteering I've read about is of Rutherford's exploits at Beth Sarim ... I'm on the fence here: 1) In theory the cult for profit would be the only reason anyone would go through this But 2) Who is getting rich off of this. And off donations? If analyzing the costs vs revenues I can see that your going to get a good margin and profit greatly. But the fact that WT is profiting is probably just a happy coincidence if not one is really reaping the benefits personally. It appears that their wealth is simply used to propogate their agenda - not buy some big wig a yacht. Gind the person(s) getting rich (if they exist) and Im sold..otherwise I agree with the idea that WTS is just a borg ... a Frankenstein who got out of controll over the last century and is now unstoppable ... imbeded in our social structure like a virus which we can never cure ... like so many that have come and gone... unwanted bacteria whose only job is to help those of us who manage to see the truth apreciate the bible's true mesage and enjoy the free will which we often take for granted ... unfortunately at the cost of the happiness of so many poor souls ... MAny of you have given me great advice which has helped me show my wife the truth ... I think things are going to be all right. I think I'm going to be able to get her out of that f*****g matrix ... Many thanks from my familiy to all of you ...

which one teaching really hurt you when you found out that it was not true?

my number one thing is finding out that the name "jehovah" was not in the bible like it was in the new world translation (tm).

christians did not call god "jehover" "jehovah" or by his first name, no more than you would call your father by his first name when you were a child.

Please elaborate on a couple of things. I am trying to rescue my wife...

...that Jesus was "only an angel".
Once the lid was blown on that one, a whole heap of other stuff fell apart at the seams.
I don't believe I retain anything, of what I previously held true, for I found even the most innocuous beliefs to be tainted (images of "leaven" flashing up).

How do I blow the lid of of this? It's tough when they quote nothing scripture which says that Jesus is the son of god. As the angles, hence Jesus is an angle. I know this is not true - but am having a hard time showing it in the scripture... I never thought I wouldI have to prove this logically thats what faith is for ...

Does the Watchtower Doctrine exist?

Can't help but feel there is nothing I can do to warn her. What did you do right or wrong to get her to start thinking? Learning from others mistakes/triumphs willhelp.

Last night I attended a study at someones house. It was about marriage. I asked her sister (active JW) about using other bibles - I brought a KJV. She said they encourage people to use their version but welcome others to read different versions.

Ia lso asked about who started the JWá. My wife responded that Russell did. Her sister interceded that actually it was started by a small group of people of which Russell was part.

I can't help but think that some of what I read here is exagerrated, but my gut says otherwise. How do I reveal them for what they are when they are contrdicting that which they practice and makes them a cult. I feel like showing my wife the board but have been advised not to.

It is hard to gauge how deep she is in it. Last night I casually showed her Jn 1:1 and inquired her thoughts on JC's diety - of course she denied it and said she is reading it as that JC was a god. Then she withdrew.

On the other hand today she is going to help prepare for an upcoming birthday. Sat we are doing some Valentine's Day activities. I feel like taking the risk she'll snap out of it If reveal now what I know... but the worst case scenario scares me...

Thoughts anyone?
