Whati means to be JW

i couldn't resist - some people are so pompous!

!- just had to post this message that i read on another board.....um....complete with my additions shown in red.

* to serve and worship our creator, the only true god, jehovah, is the ultimate honour, more valuable and precious than all the money and possessions, status, etc in the world.

Boy did you hit it on the now Redhorsewoman. My old congregation was just like what you described. All the sisters were going to "alternative specialists", or quacks I should say, because what ever new disease or syndrome that was going around, they were sure they had it!

We had two sisters who pushed their "alternative specialist" on everyone else, both were elders wives. One was into the "vitamin cure" and sold vitamins tht could cure "all your problems", for the right price that is! The other one was into "accupressure", which may do some good but the lady who practiced it was some con woman who was taking the JW's to the cleaners with her "contributions" for her so called cures. Usually after she worked on someone they couldn't function for days. Of course her claim was "you have to feel bad to get better"! She was turned in to the police for practicing without a licsense, but went to JW's homes and did her work there. She "taught" the elders wife who was "pushing" her cure how to do the "work" on everyone. Charged her a couple hundred dollars and then split owing all kinds of bills around town. Now the elders wife "diagnoses" the sisters, treats them, and she gets the "donation" for helping them. Most end up worse than before they started!

Healthier? I really doubt it!

Excellent idea Julien!

Get address of all the active JW's in the area and then go to "their" homes early in the morning, before they get out, and pass out print outs from the net on things like the UN, child molestation, blood, etc. Also be sure and go to their homes right before they are ready to go to the hall in the evenings and do the same thing, and during supper, and breakfast, and ....!

What does the average Witness know?

i have to wonder what the average witness today knows?

i guess they are under orders not to talk to anyone that might actually be able to inform them of any facts that are negative or unflattering to the society, but what have they found out anyway, through whatever means, even the publications?.

1. do they know that russell got a lot of dates from the measurements of pyramids, including 1914?

Yes, the saddest thing is that no matter what you prove to them, no matter how many sources of information you provide, no matter how many people show them, the average JW will simply shrug it all off and continue to follow the "organization"!

They want everyone they meet at the doors to give them a chance to prove how wrong other religions are, but try doing it with them, try showing them how "wrong" their religion is and it's a whole different ball game!

What "hooked" you?

im not sure if this has been discussed before but id be interested to read some comments from those who became jws later in life.

what caught your attention and sucked you in?.

my parents became jws when i was 5 years old, so it was pretty much the only way of life that i knew.

I was a recovering alcoholic, been clean and sober for years at the time, and was looking for something more in life. My sister had studied with the JW's for some time and encouraged me to read some of their literature. It sounded like they had the "answers" to every thing so I gave them a try and started going to meetings.

It was very different. Everyone seemed so friendly, and interested in me. It was a great feeling, the old love bombing thing. I was invited to homes for meals, to conventions, assemblies, etc. it was what every ex-alcoholic needed and I bought it hook, line, and sinker.

Once I was baptized things changed. I was just another one of the JW's then and all that JW "love" was for the new guys. I met my wife and got married and we had children, that's what kept me going for the last few years we were in.

Thank God my eyes were opened and later on so were my wifes and we finally got out of the organization.

Post Dateline Defense

here's what i'm hearing:.

the dateline show is beating a dead horse brought up by malcontents.. it brings up a dead issue because the society is sending out.

letters in child abuse cases to go to the police - in individual.

Here is what one JW said on another site:

"What really cheeses me off is that these people have not bothered to get anything but the media side of the story before they have judged us. I know what is happening in this and I know that the brothers are not at fault, not the elders and certainly not the GB."

Even before the show airs the majority of the rank and file have already made up their minds that the society is not at fault. Will it make JW's stop and think? I hope so, but I feel it will be a small group who already have doubts. I hope it will give them the information they need to start doing som research on their own without using socity material to find out more about how the society has been deceiving them.

Most likely it will be all put on the local congregations and the society will simply say it was all the fault of the local elders and that they had no "knowledge" of the cover ups, much like they have done for years, simply pass the buck!

All I hope is that more people see what the society is really like and this may help keep them from gaining some new converts.

The JW life

my mother-in-law, who has several children, leads a miserable existence because of being a witness.

she stays in constant turmoil because usually at any given time one or more of her children is in a disfellowshipped state.

none are spiritual giants, however all believe that the witnesses have the truth except one, my spouse.

I remember one sister in my old congregation who was in her 90's. Her grandson came to a metting with his mom, and the grandmother had not seen him in over 2 years. He came up and gave her a hug and asked her how she was. The first thing she asked was if he had been Baptized yet as a JW. He said no, and she then went off on him and told him he better stop messing around and get with it or he was going to die along with the rest of "Satans" followers. He just looked at her while she continued to chew him out. He didn't know what to say or do.

I always thought the lady was just old and senile, but now after years of hearing the stories others tell I think that it is like you said, their whole life is trying to get every family member to become a JW, and if they don't they feel like they have failed some how.

What a way to spend your life!

Why the disrespect for Jesus?

now i understand completely that most in this forum are 100% against jws and the watchtower.

what i don't understand is the disrespect that has been shown for such a sacred occasion that is the memorial (last supper).

whether you agree with jws or not, the fact is that the last supper has a lot of meaning for christians.

I agee with you Jeff, what the JW's do is nothing but an empty ceremony which has nothing to do with respect for Jesus.

What respect is shown when the emblems are passed and everyone refuses them? None in my book.

The JW "memorial" is only a way of seperating people. Jesus said there was "one" hope not two. Going to the JW memorial only shows respect for the "anointed" JW's, and not for Jesus.

The Calgary blood issue

i have been reading the remarks over at the touchstone board, and it's enough to make one sick!.

this poor man who is trying to save his child is being torn apart by a bunch of self rightous jw's who only care about his following the rules of the "organization"!.

Reading things like this makes be thank God even more for allowing me to see the "hypocrisy" that is involved with the JW religion.
