LOL at this thread, esp. the wanderer. he asked for feedback then got very pissy when he got all sorts of different views back, kept harping on "KEEP AN OPEN MIND" but obviously he only wanted people to agree with his viewpoint, not have any views of their own.
What kills me is why it even matters. I mean, who cares what you and I think? If this "god" you speak of can do anything and everything, why can't he step down from his heavenly crapper and show himself? It shouldn't have to be up to us to figure out, he needs to show up. And not in vague, personal ways that are only apparent to a precious few, special people.
And that brings me to my point... I think people want to believe in God because they need to feel like they have a higher purpose, like they are sort of gods themselves. Somehow special. I figure we're special, all right. We are animals who can speak and type and make things with opposable thumbs. That's about it.

A story that is hard for me to tell
by under_believer inonce upon a time there was a daddy who really, really liked alcohol.
he drank too much all the time and smelled like wine, cheap wine from a box.
) the daddy's boys also grew up.

When I read your story what came to my mind was the aftermath of a sinful act. The great grandpa's sin definitely would not go unnoticed by Jehovah. Moreso, that he has misled a lot. But let it be clear that the fact that he was the Presiding overseer of the congregation doesnt make him perfect or saint. The bible says that jehovah's judgment will begin from his house - congregation. This implies that there are bound to be a few bad eggs among us. I want you to see all that had happened as a testimony never to leave Jehovah inspite all odds. What "Noble" said is the exact way my family would see it. It's a cheap explanation for anything, which keeps people who cannot reconcile what they see going on with what they know shouldn't be going on, keeps them faithful. In a way, it probably increases their faith. The "bad apples were prophesied in the bible" theory, which PROVES Jehovah's Witnesses have the truth, although it does NOT prove the catholics have the truth... I'm not sure how that works, but...
I don't think anyone believes POs are perfect saints, but it would help if they weren't committing felonies on a regular basis, don't you think?
I love this - MORESO, THAT HE MISLED A LOT. So, misleading someone [away from a cult] is far worse in Jehovah's eyes than raping a child.
Wow. Noble is actually doing us a favor, exposing the cold, opportunistic attitude of so many Watchtower faithfuls.

Local church is having a serman: How to help those who have left the Borg!
by Lady Liberty injust this morning my mother phoned me to tell me that a lady she had previously studied with years ago, had called her this morning with news that her church was having a special serman designed to help those who have left the watchtower.
my mother asked, "is there really that many leaving in this area?
" that was amazing!!

I doubt a fader would go to something like that. And certainly no Elder would go. If they walk through the doors of babylon their hearts turn to stone instantly. (Romans 205, verse 76).

POLL : Your reaction IF all religion was suddenly banned worldwide
by fish inim interested in hearing what your personal reaction would be if (i say if because probably 99.9% here believe this will never happen) all the religions of the world were to be suddenly banned/shut down/decommissioned/liquidated/dismembered/etc.. by the political powers of the world.
what would your first post here say?
would it change your view of jehovah...of the "org"?

well, of course this won't happen, surely, but if it did, the big question is what would all of that energy be replaced with? doing away with religion isn't going to solve all of our problems, and could potentially lead to newer problems.
but I would probably dance naked in the street in joy as soon as I heard the news.
then I would probably feel the strong desire within me to pray or something. I'm always dancing to the wrong tune at the wrong time. All my life, was a JW, then as soon as I don't believe in anything, that is suddenly out of style. Ah well, can't win.

Elderly JW refused to open her Bible...
by AuldSoul inokay, some of you might have read about my conversation with the elderly lady that was doing street witnessing in conyers, ga. this experience happened this morning ... just looked at the clock, yesterday morning .
i walked out of the local tag office (where we register our vehicles and acquire license plates for the cars) and there sat an elderly lady with current magazines.
being in somewhat of a hurry, i tried to walk a more direct path to my vehicle ... but she thought i was avioding her.

I guess some are not as delusional as we give them credit for. They know exactly what they are doing and are only interested in people who won't argue and don't have any critical information about JWs. They are looking for a certain type of mark and you are not it.

Please people, remember it's only ok to bash fat people and gay people on this board. Please refer to the "terms of use" for more information on this.

Letters sent to elders signed anonymous?
by bronzefist ini recently had a well meaning friend give the po a letter concerning me.
it was all about an incident i like to call "the picture heard around the world".
it got me to thinking about the possibilty of someone sending the elders a letter without signing their name to it.

I've never heard of any of that. Mostly I hear of people who go straight to the elders and don't care if everyone knows they are snitches. Snitches are rewarded and everyone is one anyway.

I get that all the time at my neighborhood market. not walmart, but... anyway, I don't see the point of bringing all of my relatives into the store with me, you know? and when people are walking around in groups of 5, they don't move out of the way. they just don't care. this reminds me of when I used to go rollerblading. there would always be somebody who would jump in the way just to F&*K you up, and it started to get annoying. I eventually decided if anyone did that again, I was just gonna mow them down, and if I was going down, they were going down with me. Just nudge them a little with the cart and say "oops". how hard can that be?
