That's What I'M Talkin' About!
by Farkel incall me a curmudgeon.
there are just some expressions in today's vernacular that are just idiotic, and "that's what i'm talkin' about" is one of these.
it is so ghetto.. several people are saying 'blah, blah, blah, de blah and more de blah..." suddenly, a dimwit in the group hears something that dimwit didn't even mention but happens to like the subject and then dimwit blurts out, "now that is what i'm talkin' about!".

by minimus inwhat reasons do you have about why the witness religion is so crummy?.
one main reason is that they say "we have the truth.
they are liars.

because there is no freedom of speech. if there was, all hell would break loose, and they can't give up any control. the emperor has no clothes!

Who ever imagined they would play the role of actor within the organization

we call it survival.. the watchtower demonizes those who "hide what they are".

well, I definitely wouldn't be winning an oscar. my performance hasn't been getting any rave reviews. I was recently told that I am "beyond redemption". Nice. As long as it's not "Disfellowshipped" I'm still in the game, I guess.

actors are wussies. I prefer to think of myself as a double agent, like Sydney Bristow in a pink wig.

Is Atheism/Evolutionism Dangerous? Questions for Unbelievers
by Perry indoes the belief that there is no all-loving diety in which to be accountable to make it easier or harder to treat and judge others they way that you want to be treated and judged?.
since evolution supposes that life and ultimately man who is at the top of the chain got here through a process of the fittest dominating and killing off the weaker, and since most modern evolutionists in democracies no longer think that this is good to practice, how do you deal with the fact that you are a living contradiction of your own belief since you pronounce the same thing both good and bad?

Maybe I should start a thread asking believers and unbelievers if they think it's dangerous to be delusional enough to think God is speaking to you and is inside you.... hmmm. But, I won't. You see, I wouldn't be fooling anyone into thinking I was actually trying to sort out the answer instead of stirring the pot.
I have yet to see a thread started like this where a believer was asking a genuine question to unbelievers and not just baiting them and arguing with them for entertainment value.
Do you know what the great thing is, "believers"? FREEDOM OF RELIGION means I am FREE to decide if I want to believe in religion or not, what religion to believe in, or not, and YOU CAN"T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. Obviously, you can't argue your ideas worth a crap. I hope you won't be "accountable" to Jesus for not being a better debater than this. He can read hearts, and he'll know you tried your best, don't worry.

All I know is this is one experience we will all get to have some day, regardless of what we believe in or if we believe we will live forever in paradise on earth.
I don't know, but I also don't feel afraid of it, whatever it's gonna be. It's part of the human experience whether we like it or not.

to join or not
by dontknow ini've had in the past studied a little about the bible with jws but have yet decided to be baptised.. i've just read lavenders' moving letter to her son and her love and well being for him is very obvious.
i do like the bible teachings very much and to this day i'm very interested in the end of the system of things which will very soon come to fruition; i'm a very strong believer, however i must stipulate to all, in retrospect i'm not sinless.
one of the posters says that jw's ask you to do a liitle bible study with them, attend one of their meetings and when you get baptised you have to do exactly what you are instructed or else.

Hi don'tknow,
I'm glad you found this site and probably others to help you make a decision about joining the JWs.
I wanted to say, I don't know if anyone else already said it, but - I don't think the JWs would ask you to cut off your family, not lend them money and never associate with them if they are not witnesses. They would only discourage you from spending much time with your family, but they wouldn't ask you to withhold anything from them. What usually happens is families get frustrated when you won't participate in holidays and birthdays, and then the new witness attitude where you are preaching to them all the time gets old really fast and it's your family that would probably cut YOU off, not the other way around, in most cases. The pathetic thing about this is witnesses consider it a great honor to be able to brag about their families cutting them off. It's the persecution complex, and all witnesses have a little bit of that in them.
They would only discourage you from spending much time with non-Witnesses. They would be a little wary of you if you mentioned any outting with a non-witness and would probably "offer" counsel if you had "worldly" friends where you went somewhere for fun or something "unnecessary" like that. They wouldn't disfellowship you for it, but you would still feel bad because they would give you a guilt trip over it. What you can't do without catching a lot of crap is dating or marrying a non-Witness or associating with a non-relative disfellowshipped person.
I completely understand why you would think twice before joining a judgemental group of people who are convinced their manipulatively controlling leaders, whose only claim to any authority over them is an extremely unlikely claim that a few of their long passed leaders who did some time in 1918 fulfilled a prophecy of some vague and unverifiable sort, can accurately fortell the end of times even though these same people have got it wrong for over a century, at least. This is just another adventist group which is long past it's expiration date, and thus, the foul smell.

I too wonder why they wouldn't have done this years ago. But I assume it's hard to make changes in the organization with too many old guys stuck in their ways. As they die off, more decisions which could make "cents" will be made. From their standpoint, I can see why they would want to do this. A "nice" message for the newly interested, and once you have them hooked, (and by the time they come to the meeting, they are hooked on something) then you can expose them to the less desirable side of being in a cult.
I don't think it will really attract any new members they wouldn't have attracted the old way, there's a sucker born every day after all. Fortunately for most of the suckers, Al Gore invented the internet. Either way, their jig is up all over the place online and this new "arrangement" probably can't prevent a curious but resourceful interested "one" from finding out before it's too late.
It's probably more about saving money but not changing anything in a drastic way. Keeping the believers busy with the preaching work even though it's a royal waste of their time, and after all that's what it's for.
Thanks for the heads up on the new policy. I would've never known.
