Disrespectful
by finger inhi, just need to shout about something that happend today.
went to my grandfather in law funeral today in a church of england church, my bro in laws g/f is becoming a witness so she said that she would go to funeral but couldnt join in prayers and hymns fair enough i thought.
when we were seated she picked up the bible that was there for us and was making a show of reading something in it then turning to my bro in law and i could here her saying " they have translated it wrong" or something to that effect, then when the coffin was being brought in we all stood up which in my eyes was as a sign of respect to my grandad, she refused to stand up at any point apart from when we were leaving.

She probably felt really weird about being in a church, like she wasn't supposed to be there or something, so to not piss of Jehovah about it she had to be disagreeable about everything. Plus there's the whole smug thing going on.

My life ... and how JWD came to be - Part 3
by Simon infor me, the walls of the watchtower were not destroyed by a single giant cannon-ball but rather every brick had been weakened and suddenly the whole thing just 'collapsed'.. i've alwys been an avid reader and a firm believer that you can learn anything and everything from a good book.
anyway, i was reading a bad book, the creation book, and this time things were different.. normally, the mere thought that the wts could "not be right" could not even be contemplated.
it was like you can't even comprehend the concept or understand the question, least of all imagine it.. yet now, i read the book and things were screaming at me from the pages.

Interesting. Thanks. Your brother in law is a real piece of work. And unfortunately too typical.

If they shouldn't display the material their company deems "inappropriate" it's not your fault if they have some trouble because of your complaint. You didn't try to harm them; they didn't need to shove it in people's faces. I work in a place where there's religious stuff in people's offices and it doesn't have to be the Watchtower to be viewed as unprofessional - and disgusting if the person isn't living up to the image he is trying to portray.

Reasons Why We Like or Love Jehovahs-Witness Discussion
by minimus inevery once in a while we get disturbed or annoyed over something that takes place here.
for a change, let's express reasons why we're happy to be here.......i'll give one reason amongst many.
there are so many enlightening posters here!

There are so many caring people out here with great advice. And it's nice to know that there are others like me. I still go to meetings and I don't believe it's the truth any longer. And I feel it's nice for lurkers in my situation too, to know they aren't alone, in their congregations there are probably a few who are questioning everything, though not openly.

What's your verdict?
by ozziepost innotice the points emphasised by me in red.
is the wts telling the truth about their beliefs and practices?
when his turn came, brother margaryan testified that minor children who attend meetings of jehovah's witnesses do so with their parents' permission.

I wish all these things really were a personal decision, and that I wouldn't have to answer to them for it. It sounds a little like they left some of the questioning out of the article. Why wasn't he asked what would happen to children if they didn't go to the meetings or people who joined the military?

good luck with all of that, and the new girl. It's better you don't get involved with a Witness anyway.

They will tell lies about you.
by ozziepost inon a wet afternoon, there's nothing to do but give advice!
many readers of this board (otherwise known as "lurkers") may have been drawn to a position where their doubts have culminated in a desire to leave the "false truth" of the wts.. are you one of those?
downunder we have some (many?

You're right, Ozzie, about the lies they say. You know, I honestly don't care what they will say about me... whatever they need to tell themselves to get through another day is fine with me.
What stops me from leaving right now is my family. Like I read on another post yesterday, it's like I've picked my poison, and right now it's complying to my family's wishes instead of doing what I want to do. It's temporary, though, and later, my poison will be getting cut off from my family. Either way, it's not great.
