Ah, the silent treatment. Truly the weapon of the desperate and powerless. You're right, you don't need friendship with those strings attached.

I really don't want or need them for friends anyway
by Sadie5 injust dropping in for a short visit.
the last couple of weeks i have run into quite a few witnesses at wal-mart where i work.
most of them talk to me, in fact one asked for my help yesterday in picking out some clothes, she had just had a masectomy and needed some new blouses.. it was right after that i ran (almost litereally) into another one this one i usually just see from a distance so didn't know if she saw me or not before this but here we were standing face to face.

Corvin could be on to something there. I just finished this book about failed armageddon prophecies where it was theorized that preaching is a way to alleviate feelings of dissonance. Interesting. Poor Theocrat, going about this all wrong.

Do you still preach?
by Theocrat inmany here are not jehovah's witnesses anymore because of one reason or another, but do you still preach?

just wondering.

Acts 20:20 is showing that 1st century Christians went from house to house. But beyond that, they talked to everyone they came in contact with, with the goal of explaining the "good news of the Christ".
Actually, no. Check this out.
This is from Blondies - Comments You Will Not Hear at the 4-25-04 WT Study (3-15-04) thread which can be found under "Bible Research & Study Articles".
Point 3
http://mypage.uniserve.ca/~renford/house.htm
In my research it appears that the Society uses the two scriptures found in Acts, chapter 5:42 and 20:20 to establish the teaching that we must do house to house work otherwise we are not good Christians.
The Scripture says " While I [Paul] did not hold back from telling you any of the things that were profitable nor from teaching you publicly and from house to house." It is apparent that they are making the deduction that the house to house means from door to door, in other words going consecutively from one door to the next.
A couple of things came up when examining the Greek interlinear about this subject for example in Acts 2:46 which says : And day after day they were in constant attendance at the temple with one accord, and they took their meals in private homes and partook of food with great rejoicing and sincerity of heart," then looking at Acts 5:42 it says "And every day in the temple and from house to house they continued without letup teaching and declaring the good news about the Christ, Jesus."
What I found was that the identical phrase (kat?oikon) translates "from house to house" in the NWT rendered of Acts, chapter 5, verse, also occurs in the chapter two verse 46
. In examining the Kingdom interlinier you can see the same phrase, with the same distributive sense of kata appears in both texts. Yet in Acts 2:46, the rendering is not from "house to house" but "in private homes"Then that same phrase is used again in Acts 20:20 and the NWT renders it again as "house to house"
In examining other translations of the Bible it is evident that what was meant by this passage was that the instructions given here were not that they were to go from house to house but to go into private homes where they already knew the people and continue to teach them about Christ. What it seems to me is that the Society has tried to convey a meaning that is not actually there. -

You know it. Hey, if I can make it through the Sunday talk, I can make it through Theocrat's post without falling asleep on my keyboard. His logic doesn't impress me, though.

Question to Still a JW....
When you are putting JW-magazines in people's hands... you tell you want change from within... and what about those people who "come in the "truth" (!)" "thanks to" your placing of magazines? Will you tell them you are a reformer? Don't you feel guilty for the possibility that you convert people to a cult?
When I saw the replies of stillajwexelder and doubtfully yours, I knew they would get some crap for it. Personally, I understand their positions completely. While I feel stillajwexelder has his work cut out for him, I feel he is very brave to be doing this. If I knew there was someone in my hall I could really talk to about my doubts, as stillajwexelder probably is, that would have been so great. How is stillajwexelder hurting anybody? You know how much bullying it takes to get a person to start studying. Even still, if very few people are going to buy into Watchtower crap, how can stillajwexelder be blamed for it?
This board is great for exJWs and faders, but sometimes I wish there was a board just for faders so we could talk freely, and not get jumped every time we say something fader related. I can't bring up whatever nonsense I hear at the KH here or I'll get 10 people saying "you still go to meetings!?" Why do we have to be so judgmental, people? Haven't we got that out of our systems yet?

another subliminal????
by homunculus ini am really new in this forum so i hope to enjoy all of your companion...i saw a picture in a watchtower article and i just want to see if my mind is playing games...i would like to see your opinion on a strange picture i caught on the watchtower article on page 10 of the 3/15 issue.unfortunately i do not have a scanner so i will try to be as best descriptive as possible...page 10 has 4 sets of pictures...in the picture down right there is a pole of either greek or roman influence...i can see 3 faces on the top part of that pole...2 human and 1 animalistic (possibly a horse)...is another "coincidence"?
?this whole subliminal thing is really getting weird...i would like to hear opinions about the specific photo since its relatively new and in general about these "strange" "coincidences".

Ok, I don't understand what "qualifiers in messages" means. What am I missing here?
It's just pompous ass speak for "don't argue with me". (hehehe, hoping LR has a sense of humor...)
I looked at the pic and didn't see anything unusual, except for the subliminal message that women should never speak to anyone alone, but it's ok for the guys. Sorry to go off topic.
oh, and welcome!

have you become a Christian since leaving the JW's.....if so why?
by digderidoo inmany people i have spoke to on this site have found that becoming part of a christian group since leaving the witnesses has been of benefit to them.
i must admit at times i have considered visiting other churches or religions, but have not acted upon it.
but i am curious as to what's out there.. can anyone enlighten me?.

I'm not ready to jump into any new belief system. I don't trust the concept of faith without proof, which lacks meaning for me.

What kind of site is this??
by scabsg ini am new to this site and am having a hard time seeing if this is for ex-jws or jw's.
i am an ex jw but am wondering why i have been given the staus of "newbie" a term widely used in the congregations for new comers to the "truth".
now, if this is for people who have left and are trying to get back on their feet again, why on earth would such a variety of titles be given to members on here??
-

Welcome! Mostly exJWs here some active and fading JWs also, but not many pro-JWs.
It's interesting you knew you would be given a newbie status before you ever posted your first post. We need to change your "title" to psychic!

Is the Bible Just B.S.?
by shamus indo you think that god enjoys killing people?
it sure sounds like it to me; jw doctrine more or less scared me into thinking that god is going to kill all persons whom he/she thinks is not doing his will.
my question is, how can god kill someone for not being "christian", or following the bible out of sheer ignorance?
