This was exactly what I was thinking when I saw the previews. I haven't seen it yet, but I definitely will now. Thanks for not spoiling it!

Is it the preaching, that makes JW's believe they have the truth?
by sleepy indo you think it is the fact that jehovahs witness do a very obivious preaching campian, that convinces them that it is the true religion.when all the doubts you can think off have been raised they seem to just say "well we are the only ones that do the preaching work".
without the preaching work would it be harder for people to cling on to the religion, what else could they fall back on to convince themselves,it would be very difficult.

I've got people preaching to me all the time from different churches. They think I'm an easy mark, if I tell them where I'm coming from, but why would they bother if their churches, too, didn't encourage them to "preach"?
Maybe these other holy rollers don't have that special flair that, say, a group of 7 witness women and 3 small kids have, walking down the quiet neighborhood street, with an elder following closely behind in his Toyota, overseeing and whatnot... ok, that's just mean.
They use this preaching work argument to prove it to themselves, but as usual, they are delusional, and misinformed.

Happy (ecstatic) news, Walking on Air...
by CeriseRose ini've been a bit lax in posting, life got really busy over the last while.
i've had my own business that's been gaining contracts, but not quickly enough for mortgage payments and cat food.
hehe so i took a 5 month temp job to supplement.

What happens when you loan a JW a book
by Nosferatu inabout a year ago, i had purchased a book (new) called "in sheep's clothing".
i had bought it for the sole purpose of learning to deal with my controlling, manipulative father.
my mother became interested in the book, and i let her borrow it.

At least she actually read it. My family hates it when I tell them about these types of books. They don't trust it if it doesn't come from brooklyn headquarters, you know?
Nos, I didn't know you got married already. Congrats!

Would You Outlaw Jehovah's Witnesses If You Had The Power?
by minimus inas much as i believe that the witnesses are a "cult", i don't think i'd choose to legally ban them.
what about you?

If their headquarters and kingdom halls were taken away I can't see how they could continue to operate. There would be a lot of pressure to take risks or go to jail for Jehovah which would be so horrible but it might give the organization a bad enough reputation to stop growth and give weaker witnesses a way out. Who knows if that would finish the organization, but it might be an opportunity for a reorganization or (even worse) for a bunch of different new groups to start up.
I don't think the US government will launch a full scale attack on Christian fundamentalists any time soon.
The real problem is trusting too much in people and organizations and not critically examining their claims. As long as there are trusting gullible people there will be high-control groups like this one.

My bible study conductor deceived me with this point.
by cyber-sista inthis is something that has always bothered me and now i can see what a deception it was.
a jw woman studied with me on and off for about 3 years before i got baptized.
eventually i got baptized at a weaker moment in my life (suffering from major post partum depression) you don't want your child to die at the big a do you?-- was one line of thinking that was used on me.. the deception was this: during the time i was studying she never told me the truth about the whole unbelieving mate situation, though i specifically asked what would happen to my mate if the big a came and he never became a joe witness--?

I was raised in it, so I knew all taboos before I knew about the lies they tell to the public. Their deceptiveness gives them away. It's a con, all the way.

RR - The JWs aren't trying to convert anyone when they come to peoples doors, either, or at least that's what they'll tell you, but we know better, don't we. Also, your assumption on why I don't believe in god is a very weak setup for your argument. You cannot speak for others on why they "turned their backs on god". When I first realized the Watchtower full of deceipt, I still believed in "god" for a while there. Fortunately, I didn't close my mind to all viewpoints too quickly and after lots of research and meditation, "god" doesn't exist for me anymore, at least not as far as I'll ever really know.

RR, I can't even take you seriously. Your sole purpose of being on jwd seems to be that exjw's missed the boat by not becoming bible students! Talk about shameless plugging.....pot calling the kettle black IMO.
That's EXACTLY what I was thinking. I can't see too many people on this board even thinking about joining the bible students, although RR isn't the first one I've seen talking about it. Throwing the baby out with the bath water, please! Is that the only guilt trip he can come up with? Although in my case, that's probably true, I don't believe in any religion anymore.
an insult to Christ Jesus to say that he selected this organization on the basis of what it was teaching as of 1919 .
I've seen that concept before, in the Awakening of a Jehovah's Witness by Diane Wilson. I think we all made lots of mistakes along the way, and that's maybe just one of them. Although, I agree with Farkel that the biggest mistake is believing in the governing body as the mouthpiece of "god". That takes the cake.
