  after reading this...

  However, I thought it would be interesting to see what sort of reaction I would get from posting. Although, most replies sound like I did a few years back, and therefore rather depressing, I have enjoyed this experience.

  I'm in agreement with SixofNine. I suspected it, but gave benefit of the doubt because it wasn't as much of a hate spitting post as they can sometimes be.

  I guess I should be feeling bad about myself because I haven't made it as far as this kid and I've been labeled "depressing"? LOL. Yeah, that post says it all. I figured this person was really hiding rage that anyone would speak out about her religion. The pathetic thing is these people seem to really believe they have something special that can get us to "think" and go back to the watchtower.

  I suppose it's only reasonable to say that a few years back I declared myself atheist, then moved to agnosticism, and then to general apathy (can we stop arguing now?), and I even looked into witchcraft at one point (mostly b/c I was being encouraged to associate with a Wiccan study)... but now I'm back here with the witnesses, and I feel most comfortable here.

  I can definitely relate to why you became generally apathetic. I'm so tired of those arguments, too.

  It's important to do what you feel most comfortable with. I stopped feeling comfortable with it for many reasons and I am learning to understand myself better now, instead of being told who I am, what I think, how I feel, who I spend my time with, and what I do. I guess I'm too much of a free spirit to be confined to their definition, and I didn't feel there was any room for personal growth there.

  Of course, I think a lot has changed. Not to offend, but why doesn't anyone here quote from recent literature instead of all this stuff that's years old. That's like criticicizing Windows 95, instead of examining Windows XP.

  That's a good question! However, I don't know if they still call it this, but back when I was a good hardworking JW, they called their belief system "the truth". I guess a few of us like to chuckle a bit when "the truth" appears so blatantly false, that it must be changed. I don't know, that's just my opinion.

  We don't need someone to "test god" in this way to know he would get no rescue. I think we all knew how that would turn out. I think the only thing he proved was that idiots and mentally ill people do exist. I don't think it takes a drastic measure at all. It's all about how you interpret the information you receive. 2 people can take the same information and disagree about whether there is a "god". Something good happens, one person says, "god blessed you because you are good" and the other says "you have good luck". Something bad happens, one person says "god allowed this to happen so the world can see that Christians must deal with trials and can do so gracefully" and another says "bad luck". The thing that I think about most is people die in horrible ways every day, and you expect me to believe that God cares more about what I do with my genitalia than that? Petty, Petty God.

  Should I make a stink about this or not?

  i've been working at the same hospital since 1991. a jw chick is hired this past january.

  the hospital friends have been and are my support system as well as my 'team'.. a nurse friend played stupid last week and talked to the jw girl.

  the jw asked her what religion she was.

  I think by arguing with her about any of the details of what she's heard, you are giving them permission to approach you about your religious status at work, and you're giving her permission to go right ahead and please, take the upper hand. The message she will get is that her approach is ok and she can always have the upper hand with you, but she just has the details wrong in this one instance.

  If it was me, I would wait until the witness approaches me with something I feel uncomfortable with, and in front of her, write down her question, ask her "what time is it right now? what's the date?". This will send a clear message that not only can she not approach you in this way, she might need to be concerned about crossing the line at work with laws against harrassment. I don't know the situation, but that's what I would do.

  According to WT doctrine it would not be possible for someone under russy's reign to be mistaken about the heavenly calling because the earthly calling ;didnt open up 'til 1933-1935.

  so, I'm very confused. the apostles and the first century christians with the little candles on their heads (from WT pics) weren't going to heaven? ONly JWs from 1933 on? How could that possibly make sense? Or does Jehovah close and open the window now and then?

  yeah, the shunning concept is such a backwards way of controlling everyone. I don't know how they have been able to get away with this practice for so long.

  Convention Report - Deliverance At Hand?

  so i just got back from the convention - yes, feel pity on me... i had to attend all three days, spend money on a crappy hotel, sleep in a crappy town, sit on my ass for 8 hours a day, and all just to hear about the same old crap you can read in any watchtower.

  i didn't take notes because not only would my head have exploded from the sheer boredom and stupidity, but i would be responsible for all your heads exploding as well.

  are there any highlights?

  Overheard at Special Assembly Day

  at our "special assembly day," they interviewed an elderly "sister" in her 70's.

  she is the wife of a longtime circuit overseer who is of a similar age, but in very poor health.

  a couple years ago he retired into our circuit and is being entirely supported by contributions from people in our circuit, living in one of those connected-to-the-kh apartment arrangements.
