it sounds like a sermon at the assembly to me.

just like anything else that will eventually start going down with these people, if it hasn't started happening already, JW parents will start ignoring this advice, too. THAT's what this article is probably REALLY about. What you parents SHOULD BE DOING. Giving the parents a guilt trip. I would say roughly half of the parents I know with df'd kids still have communication that the watchtower would deem inappropriate.
ps that font makes me a little sick, too.

The truth about the donation arrangement
by Wolfgirl ini never knew this...just found it today.
made me giggle.. payment of sales tax on literatureon 17 january1990 the u.s. supreme court made a ruling that sales tax must be paid on religious literature.
the following month, a letter from the watchtower society went out to all congregations stating that there would no longer be a set price for literature but that they would be given to the public on a donation basis.

sorry this is a little off topic, but they have done some work on that JW wikipedia page... allowing the section on controversies, and relatively in depth. Is this new?

both doors have cloth canopies to keep out some of the sunlight.

I know I've probably been one of the naysayers that came out on lots of these threads and say there's another explanation. and sometimes that's true.
Something very coincidental happened to me this week. I can't give details because my jw family, if they are paying attention, would know it's me. but still, it was a weird coincidence, or maybe it did have a natural explanation, probably did, that's what I'm telling myself.
But that coincidence, somehow sparked something in my memory that happened years and years ago. I was out in service, and someone I had never met before, a family member of an RV of mine, took one look at me, seemed to look like she was getting sick and put her hands on her forehead like she had a really bad spell of a headache, and then blurted out a street name (one that I had lived on) from another city I lived in.
How did I block that from my memory all these years? It makes me wonder if maybe there are psychics that are real, I'm sure there are many that are just making stuff up, and maybe just maybe some are for real.
I still don't believe in god or anything, and probably never will, but hell, I can't claim to be an ultra-skeptic anymore. Not with that memory rearing its ugly head!
So I won't naysay much of anything anymore. I think it's important to look for a natural explanation to all of this, someone playing a prank, or being in a sleep state where you think you are awake and experiencing something, but maybe there is something out there? I don't know.

hey sam! I had a myspace, but didn't do much with it after awhile and lost my login id and password, so it's out there somewhere... didn't put my real name in, so I don't know where!
I am thinking about setting up another one.
I could never figure out how to get the music thing to work. I added some music from a myspace music page, but it wouldn't ever play when you opened my page... what's the trick with that?
I'll start one up again, I think. and ask you to add me as a friend, of course!

that's great! it's good he moved on with his life. you never know if people will after being disfellowshipped. but maybe with the information available online now, the number of disfellowshipped people still believing will go way down, and the numbers of disfellowshipped people learning what they were involved with, and how to move on, will increase. so it's good you talked to him, and the apology seemed to help you more than him, but I'm sure he felt good about hearing that too, got some closure.

What faithful JW's do you pity the most?
by OnTheWayOut inmany of us have family in the borg, we are anxious to get them out, .
we might be very angry with the borg.. but who among the jw do you really just pity?
is it elders, pioneers, retired folks w/o decent retirement?.

I don't know any women like on the way out described. I don't think people are doing that so much any more. Maybe 10 or 20 years ago, I remember some from then.
I don't feel sorry for any witnesses, except maybe a widowed old man or lady who just lost their mate and think they will see them again in paradise. And of course, the kids and teenagers. I feel for them.
everyone else.... not so much. We are all responsible for what we got ourselves into and for some reason or another, some people felt they needed to make an extra large commitment to this religion and way of life... that's their own fault.

Dawkins on Jehovah's Witnesses' "Creation" book
by slimboyfat inhas anyone read dawkins new book the god delusion yet?
he discusses the creation book on pages 119-121. he says that he discusses this particular tract only because it has had such a wide circulation - no fewer than 6 of which have been sent to him personally.
well i think he has at least 7 copies by now because i personally know one witness who sent him one following his recent the roof of all evil?

I just ordered the book yesterday. I'm not sure how I'm gonna like it, based on the amazon comments. They made it out to sound like an angry atheist book, and angry atheist books sometimes have a negative affect on my attitude. I prefer to be more of an apathetic atheist.

something tells me his friends are not dubs. why a person would say that to him though, I can't understand it. some people just need to put others down to make themselves feel better, I guess, which is pretty pathetic, if you ask me.
