I choose to study the Bible as the inspired word of God, and I fail to see how mythology is going to "shed light" on understanding the God-given book that says not to add anything to it.

i was reading the list of things witnesses can't do, on another thread, and i noticed that it was written that jw's don't have jesus as savior.. as a witness, i always said that jesus was my savior, thanks to jehovah.. maybe it's been too long ago and i forgot, but who is the savior for jehovah witnesses?

I see. Like many who leave, you choose to believe the Bible is not the inspired word of God, not to be taken literally.
I would disgree. I believe it to be the inspired word of God, and while there are many Scriptures that are obviously not meant to be taken literally, the vast majority are. Further, I believe that hios word, the Bibile, is the only way we can come to know Him, and his purpose for his creation, as well as how we can attain salvation.
But, as I'm sure you're already aware, God gave us all our own free will. What we do with it is what will make the difference on Judgement Day.

Many ex-JWs seem to trash EVERYTHING when they leave, I don't see a reason to do so, not wise, IMHO. Satan, and his Demons do exist, and that is precisely why we have the wicked happenings we do have on this earth
Yes, there were many moronic tales told of possesions, etc, and supersttious people who in their frenzy to comply with the "organization" went over the deep end.
But that in itself does not disprove that there are wicked sprit forces at work. Seems to me if I were Satan, I'd want everyone to believe I don't exist, it makes my job that much easier.

just curious to see, how some of you who have been out recently, or out for a very long time, have gone on with your outlook on life.
do you still believe in the bible?
do you still cling to some of the 'old' teachings?
Briefly, I'll say this- The first time I left the Jaybubs, I was DF'd. I completely abandoned everything I was taught, and had a life of absolute hedonism(though with occassional guilt).
Then, I went back, raised a family, and divorced my brinwashed wife, which got me DA'd.
What advice I can give, for now, is this- Keep your Bible based moral rules and principles in mind, and let the Fruitages of the Spirit guide you, along with your faith in God. Pray to him when you feel compelled to do so, try your best not to sin, and God will bless you greatly. Leaving the JWs, just another part of Babylon the Great, is one of the best things any of us can do.
But don't go walking on through the broad gate that leads top destruction, as tempting as it may be.

I continually find it amusing that people are still trying to predict that which Jesus clearly stated would be hidden from us, that is WHEN, and at the same time feel pity for such ones.

Everything else is an opinion, an interpretatiion, trivia, and missing what is important. The meaning of the locusts, the "date" on which Christ's parousia will occur, the length of Hezekiah's beard, etc- these are unnecccesary diversions to what is important- our salvation, and what is neccessary to gain it.
That, in a nutshell is what is wrong with EVERY religion, not just JWs.
a number of posts by recent and old members of jwd (i won't mention names) struck me as being only variants of the typical wt-stuff involving prophecies or chronology, based on mystical revelation and/or intensive personal study of the bible.
generally those posters did not adhere to any other church, nor went through the academic cursus of theological and biblical studies.
they seem to be quite lonely with their "truth", still persevere in it with remarkable consistency.
Since I am new here, but not new at all to theology, or the JWs, I will not provide a complete answer to your question- YET. In time (a week or two, I will put together, based on my observations, what needs to be said in this forum. In other words, I will elaborate on these points then
For now, I will say this-
There are many ways that one can attempt to come to know God. Here is the path I believe to yield the greatest revelation, knowledge of God, and the best shot at salvation:
-Belief that the Bible, and ONLY the Bible, is the inspitred word of God.
-Belief that the New Testament provides all neccesary "core" rules and principles.
-Belief that the Old Testament provides insight on God's thinking, as well as clarification for ideologies presented in the New Testament.
-Belief that a small percentage of what is written in the New Testament are "rules", that much of what is written is subject to individual interpretation.
-That personal faith in God, along with the praticing of the Fruits of the Spirit, prayer, Study, and challenging your beliefs with others is neccessary for continued growth and understanding.
I could go on, but I'll get to that, as promised within a few weeks, and post it here. For now (I've been here one day), I see few posts that seriously provide a basis for discussion of faith, salvation, and the nature of God and his purpose. I hope to provide such, within the context of what I've stated above.
