Miracles...

i've noticed that they are two seperate beings entirely.

i just think about the ot circumstances, when wandering through the wilderness god guided moses and the tribe with a huge smoke cloud during the day and a pillar of fire during the night.

to prove that joshua (i believe) was to lead the people god made dew appear on a rag in the morning and no where else, then when joshua questioned again he made the opposite occur.

I see now. Anointing such ones with Holy Spirit is the work of God. But I wouldn't call it a "miracle" because only the person so "anointed" feels so. I feel that if you exercise faith in Him, His Son, and the redeeming power of his Son's ransom sacrifice.and pray to God for His direction and guidance, both in studies of Scripture, and the way you conduct yourself, anyone who God sees fit can and will be "anointed" with His Holy Spirit. So it's still going on, it has not ceased.

I'd also add (not sure if this why you asked) that all believers (except those referred to in 1 Corinthians 11:22-32: 27 Therefore, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord. 28 A man ought to examine himself before he eats of the bread and drinks of the cup. 29 For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body of the Lord eats and drinks judgment on himself. 30 That is why many among you are weak and sick, and a number of you have fallen asleep. 31 But if we judged ourselves, we would not come under judgment. 32 When we are judged by the Lord, we are being disciplined so that we will not be condemned with the world. ) should therefore partake of the wine and the bread after they have been prayed over.

That's my belief.

The Effeminate JW man

time to pick on the guys!

i was an adult when i was conned into the corporate cult known as jehovahs witnesses.

before that time i hung with a rough crowd of guys who carried guns and did bad things to people they didn't like, or who were stupid enough to let these guys know they disliked them.

I did run into a few, though very few, who were effeminate. There was one guy, who was a male nurse (surprise) who had a book study at his house. He had all the effeminate characteristics, limp wrist, lisp, etc.

That's the only one I can think of that was blatant, although there were more who were suspicious. Most were pretty normal, other than the typical JW abnormal areas of behaviour.

Maybe it's a regional thing?

Now, if we're talkin' emasculated, yes, I'd say there were many more of those.

- people who drive slow in the fast lane.

- people who are hypersensitive

- people who can't stand hearing a differing viewpoint, no matter how valid

- people who have poor hygeine and grooming

- people who make sweeping generalized judgements about others based on some statement they misconstrued

- people who put words in my mouth

- people who stifle a good debate

- people who just don't get it.

- people who would screw over anybody to get their "piece of the pie".

- people who are backstabbers.

- people who are cruel to other people or to animals

- getting a bunch of work dumped on me at the last minute

-having to do someone else's work because they are incompetant or lazy.

That's some of 'em, anyway. Believe it or not, my being pissed off is of a very temporary, fleeting nature, however.

That is, anointing is done to signify attainment of some metric, whereas miracles are presumably performed to lend credibility to a claim, or perhaps strengthen faith.

Perhaps I misunderstood your question?

i want to ask, are you proud to say that you're an ex-jw?

do you no longer have a problem with admitting that you used to be a jw?.

Yes, with emphasis on the "ex" part! I have no problem telling people about it when it's pertinent to the conversation.

What other "Meet Up's" have you been to beside Ex-JW?

last night i went to my first "meet-up" sponsored by our friend, meetup.com.

and -- surprise, surprise -- it wasn't an ex-jw meetup.

Are parties a meet-up? If so, lots of those.

Bar, show, and/or restaurant get-togethers? Lots of those.

Dances? Occasionally, some of those.

Are business meetings? Lots of those (yawn).

If those aren't "meet-ups", then I'd have to say no.

I checked Pennsylvania's laws- you have to send an email to the State Police with your request, because the PA Supreme Court reads in Megan's Law that: "a citizen may request..." so the request is in the form of an email before they will (I suppose) send you a list of 'em. Pretty cumbersome. I think if I go on the website, I should be able to push a button that says "I request..." that should be enough of a "request", eh?

I should send 'em an email, although perhaps I don't want to know...

OK, I looked at that page and read it. First, it attempts to redefine (or at least re-examine, raising doubts as to the generally accepted definition) the definition of "species", an academically dishonest approach. When you can't make the evidence fit the conclusion without gaping holes, then you attempt to change the definition. "Speciation", the article goes on to report, can be observed in two areas:

1)- Hybridization or polyploidism (I'm very familiar with this subject matter) of plants that results in a subspecies, not a new species.

2)- Adaptation of species into subspecies, not species, by the generally accepted definition.

A few excerpts from the article:

"A discussion of speciation requires a definition of what constitutes a species. This is a topic of considerable debate within the biological community. "

"There has been considerable criticism of the theoretical validity and practical utility of the BSC (Biological Species Concept )."

"Do these represent speciation events? The answer depends on how species is defined. "

Fortunately for the writer, he did not come to any conclusion other than the above statement. Again, attempting to redefine "species" so that it will now fit a pre-conceived conclusion is academically dishonest. The writer clearly knows that, so stopped short of doing so.

My comment about an unsubstantiated conclusion was directed at LucidSky's statement that the evolution of "new species" has been demonstrated. Not so. Perhaps he meant something else, but that is not what he stated.

No, actually quite substantiated. Like all conclusions that can not be empirically proven, belief in God, god(s), or an atheist view takes faith in something.

Are you less self-righteous than when you were a JW?
