  As for "Would you have gone to college, gotten a great job, become a businessman", I did that as a JW, so the two are not mutually exclusive.

  If I hadn't beeen a JW, I'm sure my life would have been different, but I'm not exactly sure how.

  Sure, I would've had more time, probably would've had a Dad, would've been on the High School and College Football and wrestling teams, might've gone on to play professionally (sports), been a musician, artist, who knows?

  But it would definitely have been different.

  i want to compile a list of ways the wtbts has gone beyond scripture.

  deciding that god will destroy you forever if you smoke cigarettes.

  i know someone will come back and say there have been 900 threads on this subject.

  Wow! I think it would be easier to list the ways they haven't gone "beyond what is written".
  

  Right off the top of my head:

  Birthdays

  Holidays

  Smoking

  Drugs

  Limiting sexual intercourse positions within a heterosexual marriage.

  Breaking up families

  Hiding pedophiles

  Commanding regualr attendance at Assemblies amnd "meetings".

  "Field Service"

  Keeping records of hours, magazines and books placed,. etc.

  Blood transfusions (blood eating is unscriptural, but not transfusions, IMO)

  Focus on works, not faith

  Focus on external appearances, rather than the heart condition and fruitage of the spirit

  Condemnation, or judging, of non-JWs as worthy of death.

  Men with vasectomies can't be an MS or Elder (new one they came up with)

  GB claims to be meditor, rather than Jesus

  FDS lies

  In short, they turn their opinions into rules, and DF or DA anyone who disgrees with their provably unscriptiural rules.

  First, thanks for the link- I'll take the information presented there into account. For the record, I'm not disputing the age of the Earth, Solar System, Universe, etc- just earthly artifacts and such that some conclude disprove Biblical accounts.

  Second- If I posted a link regarding a scientific article, a link to which could be found on the "Cartoon Network" website, would that make the article any less accurate?

  The reason I posted the angelfire site is that it has links to many good articles disputing BB theory. If you. Abaddon, or anyone else is disuaded from taking seriously links off of an angelfire or similar website, then do your own websearch, or look here:

  Good question. I think the answer(s) can be obtained by examining the verses , especially verses 27-31:

  27 Therefore, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord. 28 A man ought to examine himself before he eats of the bread and drinks of the cup. 29 For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body of the Lord eats and drinks judgment on himself. 30 That is why many among you are weak and sick, and a number of you have fallen asleep. 31 But if we judged ourselves, we would not come under judgment. 32 When we are judged by the Lord, we are being disciplined so that we will not be condemned with the world.

  So, my answer would be that those who believe "once saved, always saved", even though they deliberatly practice sin afterwards (some "Born-Agains" I've known) make a mockery of "recognizing the body of the Lord" and rejecting the Lord's discipline.

  None of us are truly "worthy" as we all sin (at least accidentally) and fall short of God's glory. But to trample on the value of the "free gift" by deliberately bringing dishonor to Him is what I believe the judgement is referring to, among others who have callous diregard for his sacrifice or it's meaning. We should alll take stock of ourselves and see if we feel we're doing our best at present to put faith in God, His Son, his sacrifice, and how well this faith is seen in fruitage of the Spirit and other visible manifestations of our faith.

  I did it!!!! I applied for college!

  ...and was accepted for classes starting this summer.

  finally at the age of 33, i finally have my situation worked out so i can attend the local university...my kids are all in school now, won't have the guilty feelings resulting from pursuing a worldly career over pioneering now that i'm no longer a jw, etc.

  my major will be clinical lab technology-its a two-year degree.

  Congrats!!

  You're doing the right thing, no doubt about it.

  BTW, I was "a good dub" and still attended college in the early 1980's. For all their fussing about it, they let you go once you decide to do it. I can't tell you how many said they'd wished they'd done the same as I. Poor folks, stuck in jobs they hated.

  Well, if you are asking does God (YHWH) exist, i'd say YES.

  In other words, NO, He's not a myth.

  If you are asking whether "Jehovah" is the accurate pronunciation of the Hebrew YHWH, I think that matter's already been settled, the answer is NO.

  I don't believe that which is perfect can arise from imperfection, without God's miraculous intervention.

  So, considering that Religion in our day will remain imperfect, because all of it's practicers are currently not perfect, the "True Religion" would be one that holds to a finite set of reasonably demonstrable "facts", that one must believe, and everthing else is recognized as a principle, interpretation, prophecy, etc, open to individual interpretation.

  Coincidentally, I've just described "my religion", non-denominational Christianity (as there are many (most?) denominations that don't fit that description).

  Love_Truth- That's my two cents.
