SUICIDE of Craig Buttons

kent steinhaug and many others published the suicide death of u.s. airforce captain craig button whose family were jws and who was heavily influenced by jw teachings.

though there was considerable debate the airforce eventually concluded his upbringing had definitely played a role.

button, or perhaps buttons, smashed his jet into the side of a mountain.

To each their own, but just remember that the posting was done to save lives and has plenty of precedents as with ajwrb.org, the Capt Craig Buttons case etc, and given the Watchtower's history of abusing its members I'm sure that unfortunately there will be other suicides.

Next time you hear of one ask yourself "did I<-- do all I<-- could to spotlight this problem and end it." As for myself I can say "YES" and if that makes me a "dullard" or "stupid" as called by Plum and Ab then so be it, but at least my conscience is clean.

As to giving it a "rest" sure, until the next tragedy then count on it that I will speak up about it too.

What he did was wrong but his doing wrong doesn't make "all" religion false. There are good Christians, good JWs, good whatever. All too many though are misled and the spotlight of truth needs shone on them as brightly as possible.

Yes, political involvement with the U.N. and various governments and not just over "human rights" but regarding the blood issue, money they want the U.N. to pay instead of themselves for JW refugees in Africa etc

Most know Ray Franz's Crisis Of Conscience but not his IN SEARCH OF CHRISTIAN FREEDOM. I belief the reason C of C is talked about a lot on this board but ISCF rarely is is because in ISCF Ray mentions the highly desirable traits of a replacement movement which he names and calls the Free Christians movement.

I am happy to say that I am a Free Christian. Today an estimated 1,000 or even more readers are Free Christians. Though free to differ and continue fellowship regarding Bible and religious matters most are non-trinitarian, see hell as symbolic instead of literally a place of eternal fire, believe resurrection will be on earth which be restored to paradise for some but to service with Jehovah's Christ in heaven for others, continue witnessing by mouth though not at every single door and by leaflets and doing acts of kindness.

Individuals are encouraged to form their own local Bible Study Groups using the Bible itself (e.g. the New International Version) and stay independent but led by the one overall spiritual leader, Jah's Christ, who is the most faithful and discrete or wise slave. Jehovah's own Spirit appoints you directly in heart and mind to do so. This being "independent but cooperative" and "united by love and simple Christian basics" is what has worked for most all non-Catholic churches over 400 years and is believed to have worked for the earliest Christians until Rome imposed absolutely uniform beliefs hundreds of years after the apostles. Jehovah's Kingdom is still in heaven though on earth there is an orderly arrangement for Christians including those in the Free Christians movement. There is no formal judging or disfellowshipping but the Bible itself tells how to decide if or not someone is loving and Christlike or scandalous and wicked.

Again, Ray's blue print for the movement in ISCF also says fellowship is possible for all Christians based on the simple points listed at Hebrews 6:1-2 and principles such as mercy, and kindness or LOVE which the Bible again and again (read Matthew 12, John 3:16) emphasizes. Unity is most of all from love, and unity is not the same as imposed uniformity which only cults can and do enforce. The narrow path recommended by Christ is one of love instead of forced uniformity. Ray's book, so little known to you though first issued in '92 will be new to most of you but is in fact superior even to his earlier C of C. Most FC meet via the internet and in private homes. Why not join with us? There is a newsletter in English and with Spanish summaries, the Free Christians Newsletter that includes a weekly Bible reading.

why have you only negative things too say, wee all now that it is a lot of positive things too say abaout jw, the only religion who say no to war, and give there lifes for it too.. the bibel say one peopel who come out from all this mess, and stad for the name of the ord, who else do this?.

In America many other religious groups speak against war. Two of the best known are: the Society of Friends also called the Quakers
the Mennonites. Do you have those groups in Sweden? They are not the only groups which favor peace.

The Free Christians have existed a number of years now, and there are Free Christians in Sweden too. Most believe hell is not literal fire, Jehovah will resurrect some people on earth and others go to heaven. Most are also very peaceful and practice active love although allowing for defensive actions if pushed. And they favor much greater Christian freedom of conscience, beliefs and actions.

A very old brother always took the emblems and he had worked at Bethel many years. He summarized those years like this, "Bethel's a good place to go if you want to die."

A good friend was accepted to Bethel but came back after a few months. I don't know what he told the local elders and his parents but soon after his return they disfellowshipped him.

My guess is they both experienced not just some arrogance but homosexual overtures from those over and around them. In fact I know another JW who partook of the emblems as an annointed starting while at Bethel.

He said he had seen it going on while there, also much drinking. Last I heard Daniel Sydlik of the Governing Body was over all the Bethelites.

Those are just the simple facts like it or not.

More Underwater Civilisations

author graham hancock scours the seas for evidence of the earliest civilisations, which he believes were submerged when the polar ice caps melted at the end of the last ice age.

in tonight's programme hancock makes some finds off the west coast of malta and along the "bimini road", a megalithic structure in the atlantic.. no doubt those who believe in a universal flood will continue to do so and those who don't will not, but it will add to the larger picture that we have on this subject.. earnest.

How is that scholarly article you were writing for submission regarding the blood issue going? Besides that are you doing anything new for 2002 to publicise the blood issue? When is the last time you and Wayne communicated?

WTS quietly discarding end-times signs?

back in 1995 a major change took place in the witnesses' 'understanding' of the generation that was foretold to see the end of the current 'system of things'.. no longer was it to be a literal generation that would see both the beginning of times of distress in 1914 and the culmination at armageddon.

instead the wts claimed 'new light' in interpreting the generation as applying to whichever generation of people were alive to see the final end.. also in 1995 another change took place that did not receive the same attention and may have remained unnoticed by the rank and file witnesses.

repeating a point already made in a watchtower issue of 1993, a new textbook to be used in the proselytising work (the knowledge book) was released.

Interestingly the Knowledge book also omitted references to holidays allegedly being just pagan although the magazines still push that notion. So something being or not being in it doesn't mean much.

Their goal is to keep the idea that the end is imminent afloat misbelieving that this impells more preaching to be done so as to draw them more members with money and support for their lives there in Brooklyn. However they've had to drop or fade out the idea that 1914 was THE pivotal date.

However, to their human "angels" or agents in the field spying on and snitching on everybody's elses privately expressed views - elders and their toadies in particular - they orally still emphasize that the Armageddon is about to hit any second and that no one being heard saying otherwise deserves any real position of responsibility.

In short they are walking a tight-rope trying to please both those who are open to the change and those who aren't because they are ultra-conservative fanatic fruitcakes. Their doing this is causing the organization to not only be stagnant but decline. They lack the courage to make true changes that would alienate maybe 20% of the tooty-fruities but then draw make that many more within a few years.

Watchtower "Angels" and Governing Body, do you not know that Revelation says Cowards do not inherit the kingdom.
