Has this happened to anyone else?

ok, this may sound silly and trivial.

but, i need to know if anyone else has had a similar experience.. as a result of facial hair (a goatee and mustache), i was relieved of my incredibly important.

later, i felt like i should send the elders a thank you note for their wake up call to the fact that i was in a very messed up religion.

From early youth he had let his beard grow, and since some in the business community wore beards, he felt that his wearing one in preaching to others would be acceptable generally. But in speaking to a lady he was unable to do more than introduce himself, when she said: "I?m sorry, young man, I do not want to become involved in student revolt." No amount of explanation after this sufficed to clear up the misimpression. After the conversation ended with the closing of the door, he asked the experienced Witness what had happened. He was invited to consider his appearance in relation to what he claimed to be, a servant of God. Not wanting to be responsible for even one person?s being stumbled so as to miss the way to everlasting life, this new Kingdom publisher shaved off his beard. Would you be willing to do the same or to make similar adjustments if your appearance gave the wrong impression in a certain community?

The uptight judgemental woman in this story is just the kind of person the Org is looking for (now wouldn't she make a nice sister). This story doesn't even seem real to me. Or, it could be that this woman just didn't like JWs and this was her excuse to get rid of this guy.

How can this make any sense at all--if God is really calling people (or shaking them out of the nations) is this call from God so weak and inaudable that a person would not accept a heartfelt calling from God because someone stumbled them by their facial hair or insense burning, windchimes, etc etc etc....

Welcome mr fudd--great name by the way. I commented on candle's post yesterday. I was also captured by the Org for 20 years and have just exited this past year. Been on this site about 2 1/2 months ago--and up until then thought I was alone in my situation (or so I was lead to believe). This site was a lifesaver for me in many ways to read about all the experiences of others and being able to relate to so many of them. You are not alone!!!

yes, an elder needs to ?accomplish his ministry fully.?

Blondie--excellent WT study as usual and I didn't have to sit there in my sunday best bored to tears in a stuffy KH. Interesting reading once you learn to read between the lines. The Org definitely has an agenda (or, is that Jehovah is leading his people?)

New to the Forum

i am new here and i have never been a jw, however by boyfriend has been one for most of his life.

he is now kicked out of the church.

i have to deal with his pain over the experiences he tells me about in regard to his association with this church and i don't know how to help him.

Aloha Candles...

Your boy friend needs to help unravel some of what he has been twisted up in so that he can heal. Does he want to go back to the WT? If so this will be a very difficult thing for your relationship. If he has made up his mind that he is over and done with it he needs to get some knowledge and support so he can transition himself out of the Borg programmed thinking that is interferring with his life and relationships. Maybe you can help him get some help, but he has to make up his mind that this is the kind of help he wants first. I would suggest you learn as much as you can and present it to him in a reasonable manner. It is very painful and confusing when you first leave the Org. (Watchtower Organization)

why did you hate it?

for me, it was probably that damn pink great teacher book.

The last WT video I ever watched was one that came out a couple of years ago called "warning examples for our times." The was actually rather well done for a WT video ( but the content was horrible-- the Phinehaus story where he drove the tent peg through the man and the woman with screaming and all. It rather horrified me and especially when it was annouced that parents should have their children watch this video over and over again. One brother said that he felt that the only videos we should ever watch are the ones from the Org and the only ones we should let our children watch also. Anyway, I hated the above video as the story in it was used as an example to me by an elder when he told me that this is how Jehovah feels towards my daughter (the tent peg groin thing). That horrified me even more.

The latest Isaiah books. I believe I lost it during the second Isaiah book and it was the last book I ever studied--it was such a snoozer. It was such uninteresting poorly written nonsense. I tried studying the thing and digging around for some interesting points to bring out, but it was like digging through concrete. Our book study conductor just about fell asleep every week conducting the study--he really had nothing to say--so we sloooowwwlllllyyyy read each scriptures--sometimes he would try to make a comparison from the ancient times to the modern times, I remember a comment about not being late for the meetings in relation to something in the days of ancient Israel. It was just pathetic...

I hear you on this one--I am trying to work past the anger, but am stuck in it a lot these days. It struck me tonight when I checked my email--no one is writing to me after 20 years of friends and family in the Org and that makes me sad and angry--I am not a bad evil person unworthy of their attension...they have nothing to say to me anymore and I am not Dfd or DAd, but "inactive" and that is enough for me to be cut off--even got a downright dirty look from a "sister" on the street the other day. Well, I am getting to the point where I want nothing to do with them anymore either. If that's what they want then that's what they will be stuck with and I don't want to be stuck there with them anymore. I am planning to move ahead to greener pastures...

What effect did, being called "Brother or Sister" have on you?

i remember a month ago, receiving a slip at my door, saying that the memorial is this coming sunday, and it was signed by an elder, saying "your brother" elder so and so.

it was as if he and i were at the same level by writting "your brother".

the first reaction i had, seeing "your brother", acted as if we had a special bond, with a responsibility attached to it.. do you think that being called "brother or sister" is a way of manipulating you, a way of getting more out of you?

It bothered me that I had to call my sibling sister my fleshly sister--never liked that term either--just didn't have a good feel to it.

Do ExJWs Feel They Must Become Elders and "Elderesses" Now?

do you think that some people who might've been elders might still want to act as elders in the real world?

are some wannabees that were never "good enough" to get a "privilege" out to show they now have muscle and authority?

do sisters that felt slighted by the whole chemistry of jwism, now feel they must show they're really not second class citizens?

I think that everyone has insight to one degree or another--some can share it better than others through their writings. I appreciate reading these words of wisdom and don't feel put down because someone is more insightful than me on one subject or another. I appreciate the sharing of wisdom and knowledge from whoever--I think there are some great teachers in this world and some are on this site. I look at it as a gift being able to learn new things from many different people. So your question doesn't really seem to apply in my mind, but your question made me think, so that is a good thing too.

What kind of site is this??

i am new to this site and am having a hard time seeing if this is for ex-jws or jw's.

i am an ex jw but am wondering why i have been given the staus of "newbie" a term widely used in the congregations for new comers to the "truth".

now, if this is for people who have left and are trying to get back on their feet again, why on earth would such a variety of titles be given to members on here??

This site has been a life saver to many who have escaped the Org. It's been a great place for me to unravel and untie all the twisted lies that I had been tangled up in for so many years. There's a lot of good info here, great support and a few laughs. I was a newbie just a short 2 1/2 months ago, but have now worked my way up to senior citizen because of the number of posts I have written. Being a newbie just identifies you as someone new here, so everyone can say WELCOME and hope you can stay around and post your thoughts (PS I don't get any special discount for being a senior) PSS don't confuse the senior thing with age I am actually a groovy young surfer chick (guess again)..
