I agree 1000%
This is one of the main reasons I left the Org. I couldn't stand to see the pain inflicted on the young ones any longer (including my non-baptized daughter who was living a moral life, but not making the decision to be baptized fast enough for the elders in the congo, so she was therefore concidered to be weak and wicked). Some of them were having nervous breakdowns and mental problems and then making poor choices which ended in their Df-ing. Now you have an already broken young one and you isolate them--shun them and treat them like they are dead. Now the Org encourages familites being even stricter as to how they treat these ones who are still living at home. Case in my former congo:
Young witness boy (forced into baptism at 15) by dysfunctional parents whose father is physically and mentally abusive of the mother (the mother is mentally ill herself). Anyway, this kid not surprisingly grows up with a lot of emotional problems. He falls in love with some girl and longs for her so much he tries to commit suicide and ends up in the mental hospital and is put on medication. The elders and his family, of course, think it is because he is not being "spiritual" enough and focusing too much on the "things in the world" (things such as friendships with the opposite sex). Eventually after a few rough years boy falls in love again and commits the act and is Dfd. He is given a choice by the parents to either leave the house or make steps to be reinstated. He leaves the house moves in with a woman twice his age and starts drinking heavily. He eventually ends up sleeping in his car and his family takes mercy on him says he can return home, but only if he obeys the rules, which are to go to all the meetings and to have limited contact with the other family members in the household, which means: While eating meals at the table with the other family members there will be no conversation. He can only watch TV in his own room away from the family and not in the living room with the family. The sister (his mother) makes sure that everyone in the congo knew of these arangements as they wanted to be obiedient to what the FDS said about not giving the impression that "things were as they were before" the son was Dfd. Well, this didn't work for long and this whole story ended very badly...I can't go into any more of the details--it's too upsetting. I despise this unconditional love program.
When my daughter wasn't getting bapized fast enough for the elders liking one of them told me that they preferred that the kids get baptized so they can have more control over what they do (his words almost exactly)
Forcing the kids into being baptized at an early age should be illegal in my book. It is not an adult decison, but it is one with far reaching effects on their lives. 13 year olds are not of legal age to marry, drink, drive, or vote, or sign legal documents. Baptism is a legally binding contract according to the Org, but forcing these young ones into baptism at an early age and then Dfing them for being normal kids is most definitely a heinious vile CRIME.
Has anyone Dfd at a young age ever taken this one to court?

New 'Asleep', uh, I mean, 'Awake' information on b-days....
by TallTexan ini was looking in one of the more recent copies of the awake and there is a question from the readers on pinatas.
i won't go into the whole thing, but in the response, at one point, the awake says that (paraphrase) "the bible puts birthdays in a bad light.
however (and i love that word, 'cuz it implies, 'well, we've changed our minds again') if a practice has no current false religious attachments, then it is up to each individual to decide what they will do".....that's not verbatim, but it's close enough.

From what I have heard South America is a ripe field for JW converts. But the culture there is very strong and it may be that the people there are having a hard time giving up their pinatas. So in order not to lose this culture they will have to be a bit more "flexible"
But of course back in the US of A we were "discouraged" from hanging up windchimes and burning incense. I think the Org will have to be a bit more "accommodating" in order to make inroads into some of these other more profitable cultures.
The WT Org is insane and not much they so or do makes a whole lot of sense. I am now convinced that the God of the Org is the many faces of the almighty $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

The Watchtower guilt machine is indeed a powerful tool
by Nocturne ini haven't posted as much here as i've wanted these past few weeks, but i've spent most of my time lurking here, or in chat.
for the last few 2 months roughly, every meeting i attended became extremely painful to endure, such that i would come up with excuses to miss as many as possible.
but there are 2 events that really gave me a swift kick to wake me up and realize that things had to change.

(((((((Nocturne)))))))))
Yes, the guilt is a strong motivater in the WT Org. I have just recently been in a couple of situations where I had to be firm about my stand in leaving the Org. I was tactful, but still felt guilty somehow....it's weird....I'm working on changing the tape in my head, the one that's been recorded in there for so long , but is not the tune I want to play anymore.
The best to you,
cybs

Jehovah creates a bad name for himself
by Nosferatu in.
apostates haven't done a thing to give jehovah a bad name.
he's done it all himself, by letting his organization make wrong predictions about the end, by associating themselves with the united nations, and by letting them shelter child molesters.. it's that, or the watchtower society really isn't god's organization.

Towards the end of my WT days when dealing with one particular frustrating elder who was spewing his nonsense at me about what he and the other elders, overseer, organization felt and thought I cried in front of him and said "I don't even think sometimes that we are worshipping the same God!"
Of course I realized as soon as I said that he would translate this into meaning that if I am not serving the same God of the WT that he was serving than I must be serving Satan ( black and white WT thinking)

Encouragement to get back to the meetings
by cyber-sista ini keep getting these forwards from certain ones who i knew in the org.
they know i have left because i was "discouraged".
they are keeping their distance by not writing to me anything personal, but keep sending these "encouraging" forwards in hopes that i'll be re-awakened, dust off the book bag and head on back to the old kh.

Wouldn't an all powerful God be able to encourage one outside of meeting times, instead of limiting himself to certain days of the week at certain hours, but rather encourage people when they need it - which is naturally going to be at all different times?
Yes, I had often heard that battery analogy even from the platform. I always felt guilty because I was not one of those who got recharged during the meetings and felt way better and more spiritual after taking a swim in the ocean, a walk in the jungle or just hugging someone. Yes, I did feel better when the meeting was over, and I now know why, because I was so damn happy that it was over!

Do you trust JW's?
by desib77 ini guess i'm asking in more of a business aspect?
or in any kind of dealings with them.....for example, because of their morals honesty is "supposed" to be practiced.
would you hire one because of this?
-
cyber-sista
No,
1) I have lent out sizable amounts of money to some JWs (in the past) and never did they make an attempt to pay me back.
2) I have had elders lie to me (cover over the facts) and hide important information from me.
3) Witnesses belong to an organization that lies to and cheats its own members out of their time and money and also hides the truth from their members.
4) Witnesses are trained to be deceptive and manipulating when spreading the word about their religion: (We never really told them the truth about our religious beliefs when going to to door.)
Would you trust people like this?
I know that witnesses are supposed to be known for being great upstanding and honest citizens. But did I ever here this from the general public? Never in 20 years. So where did I get this idea? I read it in the WT. Is the WT truthful and trustworthy?
