Well I have three piercings, labret, nostril and eyebrow and I too like the Rollins Band and luv the New York Dolls but I don't know if that makes me a Punk or a Goth or whatever. BTW left the witnesses 8 years ago.

Goth/Punk/Metalhead/Rivethead XJWs on this forum
by ColdRedRain ini've noticed that alot of jw youth that leave the faith in their late teens and early twenties become one of those 4 things, yet i haven't seen many in this forum.
it might also be that i'm not here that often (380 posts since oct of '02).
anyways, if there are any, speak up.

Would you ever go back to an organized religion after leaving the Witnesses

I think we have to remember here that as former witnesses, we were part of a cult, not an established historical religion. Yes the witnesses claim to be Christians but I think we all know they aren't. Cults are a perversion of true religion. We've probably all had horrible experiences in the JW cult and that makes us leery of all religion and maybe God in general ? and perhaps rightfully so. But I think to toss all religion and all prospect of belonging to another organized religion out the window because of the past mistake of joining or being born into the JW cult could be tragic.
I think organized religion can offer a lot to help people and it is one of the stabilizing institutions of any society. I don?t know if there is any "true" religion. I?d be very leery of any religion that exclusively claimed that, as the witnesses do. But I?ve been in a few churches since leaving the witnesses (eight years ago.) I would like to eventually join one. I just haven?t found any that I think are fit.

I'd really recommend if you want to get publicity for your cause, don't buy advertising! That is unless you can afford to toss around 100,000 to 150,000 USD. Use the media to do your advertising for you. In P.R. we do this all the time, via press releases, contacting and cultivating relationships with city editors, tv and radio program directors, etc.
The best way for you to get your anti-JW message (UN-NGO letter) out is just call up your local newspaper, ask to talk to the religion or editorial editor and just tell that person your story. Newspapers and magazines love this kind of stuff. But be persistent. I can tell you from working in a few newsrooms that the phones are always ringing. It's worth a try and a whole lot cheaper.

I know this has nothing to do with the posting, but I absolutely love the chocolate mint girl scout cookies. I swear I can eat a whole box in one sitting if I let myself.

noah's ark will be broadcast in the uk on bbc one on sunday 21 march at 1900 gmt.. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/3524676.stm.

Farkel, I couldn't agree more. The fact that so many people claim to actually believe in Noah and his Arch is the real miracle. It's a breath-taking display of stupidity, but still a miracle

How should we deal with terrorists?
by imallgrowedup inthere have been several threads lately about terrorism, and i find myself frustrated over how quickly they digress into the minutia of specific events and lose focus on the crux of the problem (i'm guilty, too!
there are serious issues which are constantly overlooked when solutions are offered in regards to the reduction/elimination of terrorists/terrorism.
these issues must be addressed in order to have a workable solution.

We should dead with them as enemy combatants, following the Geneva Convention. I do think, however certain exceptions could be made.
For example, I'd love to watch Osama be vivisected on live international TV when that piece of vermin is finally detained.

MorpheuzX
Yup. Though it took a while to get all the "influence"/mind control out of my subconscious.

Since leaving how have you changed?
by Joysome inwhat do you find yourself doing differently?.
do you ever feel a little shocked when your opinions on certain things have changed?
things that you were once so adamantly against?.

Well I've earned a couple college degrees -- working on a few more Ph.D. I've become a published author, both non-fiction, fiction and poetry.
Since leaving I've also become sexual activity: fun, fun. Could have scored today with this this totally cute spanish princess, but I'm still not over my ex.
I've also developed quite an unhealthy drinking and pill popping habit.
Anyway at the moment there's a two-word phrase that fits me prefectly. The first word is four letters long and starts with an F and the last word is up.

The Passion of Brian
by drahcir yarrum ini haven't yet seen the movie the passion of christ but understand that it is a powerful movie for those who are believers.
i haven't been a jw for many years but wondered what the organizations position is on the bros seeing this movie.
does anyone have any insight on this?
-
MorpheuzX
It's R-rated, hence, witnesses aren't allowed to go see it.

Yes. I was born into it. But my parents were converted. My mother was in her 20s and my father was in his 30s. Now granted, neither of them were exactly educated. But damn! How can an adult possibly be so gullible?
They were tricked but they were adults so I don?t feel much pity for them, as all the messed up consequences they suffered due to joining the witnesses, they themselves chose. But I do feel embarrassed and angry for me and my two older brothers who had our lives dramatically screwed up by being brought up in the witness cult.
