A crazy thought....Please humor me!
by Doubtfully Yours ini just got this thought that we're like a huge soap opera to god and other spiritual beings.
if the almighty makes it all perfect and joyful, then how the heck will he/they get entertained?!.
in other words, the almighty powers that be aren't interested in the least bit in making things happy and perfect for all because we're like a huge spectacle for them to watch for ever and ever.. alright, there goes my sanity for today.. dy

I don't know if someone mentioned this earlier, cause no I didn't read through all the replies. But wasn't that very premise a Southpark episode a few years back?

Enumerate reasons why the JW's are Hated or Disliked
by JH inmany people hate or dislike the jehovah witnesses.
the jw's think it's a sign that they have the truth.
enumerate a few reasons why people dislike them.

I found most JWs wanted to be hated and disliked. That's how they felt they were doing what's right. Unfortunately for them they just didn't realize they were being jerks by constantly relating everything to religion, or knocking on people's doors at 8 a.m. on Saturday morning.
I mean, don't poke a sleeping dog with at stick and then get surprised when it barks at you. The witnesses seem to be masters at being petulant, self-righteous morons -- generally that's not a very affable combo.

The God of Christians is Very Vague
by frankiespeakin ini no longer consider myself a christian.. i feel that there may be a god, but if there is, he's not the god christians worship, for such a god makes no sense.. if as the bible says we need to have faith in jesus to get everlasting life,,, why would this god make it so misleading and leave so much room for ligitmate doubt,,, by having this information passed on to us by men and organizations that have not been totally honest????.
why would he use the bible to relate this information, when the bible is so full of errors????
the evidence is very clear that the bible has been tampered with over the centuries, so that a reasonable person can have legitimate doubts about the bible's origins.. also, why would god use men who are so prone to dishonesty, to convey this lifesaving information?.

This would be a lot easier if god would get a 1-800 number, preferably toll free. God's omniscient and omnipotent, right? So how hard could it be?

Why does it have to be gay "marriage?"
by spiritwalker ini know this a hot topic, but i had some thinking on it i wanted to discuss.
to begin, i have nothing against a gay man or lesbian woman and consider many to be friends.
i would also like to express from the beginning in plain thought, "i think gay unions should be legal and do not see why it matters.".

Apparently where Yeru lives, a lot of people want to marry their first cousins....umm, okay. Dang I'm glad I'm not from there. x10
I work in the media, as a reporter/low-level editor. And this whole gay marriage issue just smacks of what we call a "timed release". Meaning when there is negative news a company or politician or political party doesn't want the public to focus on, they attempt to stir up some highly volatile issue that's sure to polarize people and divert them from the other more important issues -- like skyrocketing unemployment, a military stretched so thin it's ready to crack, social security failing, and a federal deficits approaching $2.5 trillion. And then instead of tackling these incredibly complex issues, Bush proposes a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage. Hmm, I'm sure that's just a coincidence.
Does anybody remember the last time the Republicans tried this in 1992 with banning gays in the military? All that cost us was universal health care. I wonder what this round of gay bashing will cost America?
Sorry about getting political, but it's impossible to seperate this issue from politics.

I'm conflicted about seeing this movie. On the one hand I'm curious to see what all the hype is about. A good friend of mine has all ready seen it and she pointed out several historical inaccuracies with the plot.
On the other hand, if I see it, I'm going to have to pay admission and I think that sends the wrong message to the fundys out there, namely that this time of product is viable and profitable.
I think curiosity will eventually win out. I just hope this doesn't lead to movies about David, Solomon, the apostles, particularly the apostle Paul and his rather insane comments in 1 Thess. 2:14-16.

Can a pedolphile reform?
by Bonnie_Clyde ini need help soon - i was molested by my brother when i was about 9 or 10 and he was about 15 or 16. it has been about 50 years now.
the only way i got him to stop was when i threatened to tell my parents.
since then, i was completely quiet about it.

No a pedophile can not be reformed. I was sexually abused when I was seven-years-old by an uncle of mine. He was an alcoholic who liked to beat his wife. So, my mom, his sister, offered him a place to stay for about a week after he'd been thrown out by his wife. Well one night he crept into my room and that was the end of my childhood, and sometimes I think my life.
At the time I was too scared to tell my JW parents what had happened. I never did, even to this day. Well a few years later, this same uncle's daughter came to live with us for a while. She was hiding out from her dad, who had started sexually molesting her when she was just a child, too. She reported him to the police and the police did nothing. The extended family pressured her to hush it all up and retract her claims. She caved in and did. I still feel guilty about not coming forward then. Maybe if two of us were saying it something would have been done. I was about 15 when she came forward and I just didn't want to have to go through it all again.
Anyway. I agree with one of the previous posters who suggested that the only way to cure a pedophile is to put a hollow point in their head.

I'm an ex-JW, DA'd, and I too no longer consider myself a Christian, although I like a lot of what Jesus had to say and do.
The part that always confused me about christianity in general was the ransom. A perfect man, Adam, sins and so all his offspring are sinners and ergo must die. Then god decides to send his/her perfect son to live a perfect life and die for mankind to redeem humanity. Why? God made the rules. Couldn't god have just tweaked them? Adam and Eve, if they ever existed, were clearly sorry for what they did. God was their parent. Couldn't god have just said, I forgive you? Thereby avoiding thousands of years of indescribable human misery.
I know when a person I love hurts me, I can pretty easily say I forgive you. Why couldn't the god of christianity? I personally hope I one day get to meet the real god. I've got a couple questions to ask her.
