When I was a good little JW, I always felt the visceral need to partake. Not because I thought I was better than anyone else or because I thought the 144,000 was a set and literaly number but because Jesus said to partake right in Luke 22:19 & 20; Mark 14:22 & 23; and in particular Matthew 26:26-28 where Jesus was explicit in his commandment to followers: "While they were eating, Jesus took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, "Take and eat; this is my body." Then he took the cup, gave thanks and offered it to them, saying, "Drink from it, all of you. This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.""

The Memorial: Blasphemy or Monty Python Sketch?
by metatron insoon the special night will be upon us, when millions of jehovah's witnesses.
will gather together for the sacred purpose of merely passing around the emblems.
of christian salvation and rejecting them.. this event proves to me that anything, no matter how silly, will be treated solemnly.

Osama's Physician is Surrounded
by Sentinel inthe big news on tv right now--and it's dark on that side of the world-- is that the afghans have corraled the #2 man right next to osama.
this is a very intelligent egyptian physician who travels with him all the time.
it is not known whether osama is with him or not right at the moment.

I hope this doesn't mean Osama is going to die from his kidney ailment. I for one hope he is caught, tried at the Hague and hung, like the dog he is, all for the public to see.

I concur. With the exception of the Jewish Priests, the Romans were the only ones depicted as savages in The Passion of The Christ. Now there were some anti-semetic comments made by Pilates' character -- but he probably actually felt that way. (As most Roman Consuls probably felt superior to the people they were sent to control.)
There's one scene in particular in the movie, when Simon of Cyrene is helping Jesus carry his cross and Simon comes to the defense of Jesus, after which a Roman soldier insults Simon by cursing at him that he's a Jew. I found that scene to be the complete opposite of anti-semitism.
I'd encourage everyone to go see this movie, well every adult. I don't think it's fit for kids -- far too violent. I've seen it four times and may see it again. It's simply a heart-wrenching drama -- particularly the scenes with Mary and her suffering at the torture and death of her son.

Political Party Loyalty
by Greenpalmtreestillmine ini am very new to the political process and this year will be the first time i enter a voting booth, but something has been on my mind of late and i hope you all can help me sort it out.. if george bush had been a democrat and from day one of his presidency had done everything exactly as he has done would most of the republicans be supporting the war in iraq?
would most of the democrats still be against the war?.
or would each party fall in line with most republicans against the war and most democrats for the war?.

I too am hoping beyond hope for a Kerry-McCain ticket. That would just be fantastic and would go a long way towards healing a lot of the partisan inflicted wounds in the US.
That being said, I have no party loyalty. I vote for the best person capable of leading, not the person in whatever party I'm registered in.

L_A_Big_Dawg, having been born and raised in NY I hope you're wrong about Kevin Brown's eventual meltdown under the NYC media pressure. But I know you're right.
Being originally from NY, part of me still wants the Yanks to win. (I think it's genetic). But their hubris sickens me and I just can't bring myself to root for them.
Anyway I'm making my bold divisional predictions for 2004:
NL East: NY Mets (Improved defense and pitching and if Piazza and Floyd are healthy, this team is going to score runs. I can't wait to see how good Kaz Matsui really is and Jose Reyes is the best young positional player in MLB.)
NL Central: Chicago Cubs by about 10 games.
NL West: San Diego Padres (My sleeper team of the season, if Peavy, Eaton and Burroughs set it up, this team is going to rock. Although if Edwin Jackson pitches the way it looks like he can, the Dodgers could be in it, even if they can't score runs.)
NL WildCard: Houston Astros
AL East: Boston Red Sox
AL Central: Kansas City Royals
AL West: Oakland A's
AL WildCard: NY Yankees
Again, my beloved Phils will find a way to blow it: Thome will break a leg on opening day or Millwood and Wolf will both need Tommy John surgery. Pat Burrell will hit .200 again. David Bell will break is arm five minutes before taking the field on opening day. The Phils will curse themselves for letting Travis Chapman walk away. It's inevitable. But you all better watch out for 2005 when Gavin Floyd and Cole Hamels will be in the rotation. The NL is in for some trouble then!

Armageddon to come next March
by Sassy ini was told by one of my sons tonight when i called to check on them that their uncle (who is still a jw, they are not) had been studying the prophecies and has figured out that armegeddon is going to come next march.
of course i laughed when he said that.. and he told me no really, his uncle has even been in touch with the governing body and they agreed with his findings.. .
now don't get me wrong, this man is very intelligent and i can see him coming up with some reasoning that may sound intelligent, but come on.... what i got the biggest kick out of it, was that he thought the gb was going to take him serious.. first off, i am sure they don't take serious anything someone nobody says to them.. and second of all, this man has been dfd for yrs and only back in recently.. .

Awesome! I always wanted a front row seat to watch Armageddon. Maybe God can announce it in advance and sell the broadcasting rights to NBC or the BBC -- imagine how much commericals would cost. It'd put Superbowl prices to shame.
BTW do you suppose God would give Geraldo an exclusive interview upon his second coming? Man that'd irk Dan Rather!

Oh yeah Lyin Eyes, these aren't your father's zombies, these are swift, agile, scary flesh eaters. The original Dawn of the Dead, made back in 1978 had some really bad acting, all the zombies were just painted green and the special effects, although often hilarious in their stupidity, were quite gory. I'm hoping this movie isn't too gory and that if focus more on the societal impact of the dead rising from the grave -- which I think would be fascinating.

Victory for Terrorism
by Yerusalyim inthe terrorists won a great victory in spain.
mind you, i'm all for the democratic process...it's great...and had the spanish decided to part ways with the us of it's own volition, great!...however, the socialists were project to not win a majority in this weekends election...that is until the terrorist attack.
now, with the socialist coming into power...and the promise to both withdraw the 1300 spanish soldiers from iraq and to part ways with the us on foriegn policy we can look for more such attacks in other countries.

Because Blacksheep we financed what they did! We also allowed it to happen. We could have pushed an amendment through the U.N. to get U.N. troops sent into there back in 1999, or 2000, or 2001 in order to establish a democracy, apprehend Osama Bin Laden and stop the genocide of the taliban. Instead, Bill Clinton and George Bush did nothing. It was only when we were attacked that we decided to go flatten Afghanistan.
And if you think that $124 million figure is made up, go back to page five, I think. There's a link in one of my post to a CNN news story that pre-dated 9/11 and documented how the money was given to the taliban.
I'm glad the taliban are out of power in Afghanistan. They're an example of fundamentalism at it's worst.

Every President plays the religion card! Even Bill Clinton went to church every Sunday and often spoke of his faith in God.
Conservatives presidents aren't the only ones to do this. By all accounts Jimmy Carter, another democrat who served as president was very religious. IMO, God, isn't a conservative vs. liberal issue when it comes to the vast majority of politicians outward facades of faith.
