  For Lurkers.......

  this is an exerp from the 'truth' book, published 1981, ch 14 par 10.

  10at first one might reason that it is simply one minister who is wrong or certain church members who do not do right.

  but what if the minister who downgrades the bible continues to hold his position?

  K, so I am no longer a lurker, but I do have just one or two comments to lurkers....

  While reading the bible through from start to finish which was for me the first time when at bethel, it was reading the context of that scripture about the 'light getting brighter and brighter' that I realized a problem with this common Jehovah's Witnesses publisher's reason for changes over the years in their beliefs or understandings of scripture. YES, context is extremely important in finding the true meaning of a scripture and the context of the actual scripture of the 'light getting brighter and brighter' has NOTHING to do with ever increasing 'light' from Jehovah on religious understanding.

  That, and the fact that by the Society's own writings that there were representatives of the 'faithful and discreet slave' all through history from the first century, it sure seems odd to me that close to 2000 yrs have been used in ever increasing 'light' and still many changes and 'mistakes' in understanding are made. Furthermore, even a brief, cursory glance at the early pre-history of the early Bible Students shows that there was no 'faithful and discreet slave' that CT Russell relied upon or 'passed the torch from' to get his start with the 'modern day organization' of Jehovah's Witnesses.

  To me reading the Bible in its full context was the beginning of really understanding its message and the beliefs it set forth simply and clearly.

  i?m taking the leap, literally!

  on saturday i?m going sky diving for the very first time!

  i?m going with a group of about 30 people (we will be getting a group discount) and will be doing a tandem jump.

  The 1975 Prophecy revisited

  i am doing a project on the rhetoric surrounding the 1975 armageddon prophecy.

  i've read all the research and quotes online... now i am interested in any personal testimonies.

  i have heard a few stories, such as witnesses accruing massive credit card debt in '74 and early '75 and quitting their jobs.

  I wasn't old enough in 1975 to have been cognizant of what was going on, however, years later I did hear right from the bro who was going in service then an interesting story.

  He said that he was preaching the end was coming in '75 and after it came and went, he personally went around to all his calls and apologized!

  Pretty big of him - I think I woulda been hiding for awhile, licking my wounds and planning personal computers, the internet and a discussion board to 'deal' with being deceived lol.

  Gee aren't we up late?

  Since I haven't been to meetings regularly in a few yrs and not at all for ~3 mnths, I couldn't say.

  It will be interesting to see how they try to get out of the failed chronology. It seems to me that many many more will stay in the org and yet only be there for the social aspect of family and friends, not really be believers.

  jeece, I wish aliens from space would land in Brooklyn and declare themselves the originators of the human species with undeniable proof so that the org would face the music about their not getting the END right. (not that I believe we're from aliens, but if its true and it debunks the org, it would be fine all the same heh heh)

  I got this mag (still getting the damn things - I gotta have a chat with the po to stop them coming) and read the two specific articles discussing 'apostates' and with my new position, knowledge and association (here at JWD) realized what claptrap they spout.

  Your dissection was quite good and appreciated. A little logic and reasoning makes these fluffy articles float away for the hollow shell they are. I, for one intend to play on the fear and ignorance this article will renew in jwdom, of course in nothing but the most 'upbuilding' of ways - snick snick.

  maybe instead of stopping the lit order, i should put in an order for like, a jillion mags and see what happens - someone back east will be rubbing there hands at the great sudden increase in canada lol.

  well not 'new', as i'm over 30. heh but i'm newly out (letter of disassociation dropped off at kh end of january, and i was announced last thursday night).

  i posted my 'story' on a different ex-jw board, and as it is so long, i'm not reprinting it.

  i too am a relatively new member at this site. it is the first site i first lurked at (for all of about 2 days) before joining and the rest is ~7weeks history. oh yah did i mention i'm not a newbie anymore?

  i feel for your situation and your story. i too am considering the big DA but have some work to do with a few friends and family first. i realize the DA buys into their program but also could view it as, like you, taking some ACTION for gods sake! I know if i had a choice, at this point in time, i wouldn't like an in abstenia DFing but everything is in flux right now for me and wife so who knows what we'll do?
