The Mormons already believe in life on other planets and they are very fundamentalist. Sorry I guess it wouldnt kill them all off if any.

Adagio for Strings is ok. (From the "Platoon" (1986)) soundtrack. However the "Adagio for Strings- Voices" version is awesome. 100 times more dimensional. Its basically Adagio for String but instead of using strings they use a choir of course. Its from the Homeworld (strategy pc game) soundtrack.

I Thought Mel Gibson Was Going To Be Jesus...
by SYN inwhoooops!.
i'd been getting all geared up to go and watch the passion of the christ (it's causing enormous waves of journalistic strife, so it has be interesting at the very least...), until i saw the trailer and realized that mel gibson is not, actually, playing jesus.. apparently he's "too old", a friend told me.. now, don't get me wrong, i'm not a massive mel gibson fan (although he was perfect for the role in what women want, i must admit), but i thought it would've been truly surreal and an interesting reflection on popular culture circa 2004 to see mel gibson pretending to be jesus.. other interesting tidbits have surfaced about this movie.
monica bellucci (hope i spelled that right) of matrix: reloaded/revolutions fame is in it, which you might say is a truly powerful incentive to go watch the movie, but she may not be as fun in this role as she was in the matrix.

This is not the best way to prove God doesnt exist
Now, people on this site might now me as a stringent atheist, the kind of person who stands on hilltops in lightning storms dressed in wet copper armour and shouts "Come get me, God!"
I think Mel should have at least made a cameo as a burnt out chain smoking Roman Soldier on the fringes of madness that has a real problem with people telling him he has a death wish.

1993 Circuit Assembly Demonstration that Involved "The Firm" (1993)
by FirstInLine ini remember in 1993 at one of the circuit conventions that they did a drama in which a young adult woman living with her parents was going to go see "the firm" (1993) with some other young adult jws.
when she told her parents of her plans they expressed their concerns and she pleaded that sometimes a really good movie is ok to go see if it is rated r. she heard from reliable sources that there wasnt anything really bad with it like gratuitous sex, drugs or demonic themes.
in the end her parents convinced her that jehovah would still not approve because it was rated r. she was reminded that even worldly people recognize it is a bad movie because they are the ones that gave it the r rating.

Whoops, probably offended half the board with that last paragraph.
No problem. Relaying your observations is what this is all about. I got a mild chuckle out of it.

Are jws really out to save you?
by kls injws go door to door with their book bags and bibles and try to spread their doomday tactics to as many as possible, but are they really trying to save you or are they pressured to recruit to save themselves.it reminds me of someone selling encyclopedias at doors ,if people don't buy you don't get paid.i remember irritating people at their homes trying to get them to listen to me about the end comming and thinking only of recruiting to save myself.at that time i don't think i was actually thinking of myself but looking back on it that is what it was.jws are actually in it for them selves to save their own butts.it is a devotion of self love ,to themselves and the watchtower.
so how did you feel ?
were you actually out to save a stranger or yourself?

,

I never quite thought of it like that for some reason. Well obviously 90% of the reason they are there is to save themselves. I challenged an elder along these lines one time in front of several witnesses and in his next sunday talk he talked about how salvation was a free gift and could not be earned. I had never heard anything like that from a JW talk-giver. I felt a gasp in the audience as it felt like an evangelical preacher was on the platform.
He's a two-faced rat though. He didn't mean one word of it. I'm sure next chance he got when I wasn't there he would hammer home how necessary field service was to please Jehovah and that it was mandatory to make it through Armageddon. Of course when I ask him straight out he will say no you don't have to do field service.
I think he thought my argument was better than it was and he was filling in the gaps thinking I had more answers than I did.
Its truly amazing apparently he was more aware of the WTS' error than I was yet still defended it.

Hours on the Doors
by Spotlight ini wonder if people here could help me understand something (particularly ex or current jws).
i have heard that jws are required to do at least 10 hours minimum on the doors to be considered "active".
although there do not seem to be any written statements in wt literature, to this effect, it does seem to be something expected (almost like a talmudic oral law!

One Time I did a whole 2 HOURS one month!!!!!
The Older I got the more ridiculous field service seemed. I realized it was nothing but a show. To show the worldly people in their street clothes that we were serious and actually Christian, unlike the slobs that claimed to be chrisitian in their t-shirts. What fools, to claim to be a Christian wearing a t-shirt. "I'm wearing a 3 piece suit buddy don't try to tell ME you are a Chrisitian."

Thanks, everybody.
No to that guy, this is the topic.
I remember I tried to buy Nirvana's Nevermind and my mom wouldnt let me because she saw the titles on the back and decided that they "Territorial Pissing" was just a name used for shock value so I would buy it and they are a shock value group that has nothing to contribute.
What a hypocrtie. I remember like the same year at the Sunday talk a visiting elder gave a talk and ridiculed the movie "Basic Instinict" (1992) and then described the opening scene in detail. I could feel my mom squirm because I know she just saw with my dad and had taped it PPV. I think at that point I had already seen it too. That's a movie you have to be older to appreciate, I'll admit. It keeps getting better everytime I see it.
I also remember one time when a few of us teens were chaparoned out for some fun to go see "The Addams Family" (1991) and "Stop or My Mom Will Shoot" (1991). They got sold out so we went bowling instead and in the car ride back the subject came up and I said that I had scene "Terminator 2" (1991) several times and that is was a great movie and the older girl in the front actually started crying because I said this. For real guys no joke, she was like 15 or 16 I was like 11. So me and my friend who was like 14 or 15 starting laughing at her. We thought it was sooo hilarious that she was seriously crying.

I had no fear of listening to my music or watching my movies.
I thought I was going to be destroyed at Armageddon for not being able to stop looking at naked pictures and swearing. The naked pictures I could keep at bay but the swearing was epidemic. I just couldnt stop even when I was only 11. I remember the turning point. It was fifth grade camp. Our Counselors were all like 15 and 16 and cursed like crazy and from then on we all cursed like sailors. Before that no one ever cursed at school, after that it was a nonstop rap song.

The thing that stuck out about this with me was that they mentioned the movie by name instead of using a generic name. You never hear them mention these things in the demonstrations specifically.
Like I remember a disctrict convention drama in which some JW turned HS athlete and his new worldly girlfriend pleaded with him to keep "playing ball" because for one reason at the last game he "even scored the winning point"
Now my question is: does it seem like they were specifically targeting the firm because it might look tempting but look out it is a conspiracy of old farts behind closed doors trying to control a young and impressionable up-and-comer?
The only other time I ever heard of a specific mention in a drama was in the same convention I think a 10 YO kid was playing "Mortal Combat" on his Supernintendo.
I have really wondered if other people remember the refference to "The Firm" (1993) at a 1993 circuit Assembly.
(I edited the term Circuit Convention for Circuit Assembly)
