  Isolated & disconnected once outside

  is this a common issue for exjws?

  or do you find it easy to just get on with it?

  having lost all the jw friends, you find that you can't bring yourself to let others get too close, even pushing them away (old habbit dying hard).

  Hi everyone

  good topic and one I think that most exjw's can relate to.

  We have found it quite difficult to handle the contrast between the 5 meetings a week with all the association and then NOTHING.

  Like others we dont want to "Get involved" with any other group or religion to meet people. Dont really want the commitment or control that it could entail.

  We are lucky that we have our adult children out of the borg which hepls.

  Sorry dont have an answer, wish I did.

  Maybe we are left with a fallacy that lots of friends/aquaintances is necessary, I really dont know.

  guys i really need your help

  todaythings have really come to a head and i have a massive decusion to make by 7pm tonight!.

  basically i have been dfed since march tryed to get reinstated two weeks ago but they said no, thing is i only did it for my family esp my dad he is not well and i love him to pieces.

  but when i got dfed i had a boyfriend and things have been up and down (hes put up with alot) but he is sticking by my side and i love him and want to be open about him and not lie anymore, .

  You are a mum. Would you do to your daughter what your parents are doing to you? If you could then go back if not then stay for you and your little girl, it is her future as well.

  Book study in your home

  did anyone have the book study group meet in your home?.

  my family had the book study group meeting in our basement and it was such a drag.. some of the reasons why it sucked.. the house always had to be spotless.. my mom insisted that there was always refreshments available for after the group meeting.. some dubs used to wander into other parts of the house, including my room.. if i missed the bookstudy because i was sick, some would actually come down to my room to talk.. there were many times when little things would go missing, glasses, magaizines, books, food, you name it.. people would check out my music and books all the time.. i have long since moved out, but mom still has the book study meeting there..

  Hi all

  lots of memories come backwith this topic.

  We had the BS for years, even before other half was baptized.

  Only got rid of it when we changed congs.

  Advantages: Could put children to bed if they were tired/unwell and not miss the group (sigh such a good dub)...... cant think of any more!!!

  Disadvantages: Always having to tidy and get the room ready for Tues BS, Wed FS and Sat FS. Havent got a big house either so couldnt shut the room and leave it ready.

  Always being there for Sat FS. even when the weather was awful SOMEONE would turn up for the group.

  Had to turn out and taxi people there and back so still had to use our car.

  People who came too early.

  People who stayed too long afterwards.

  Muddy feet in the winter.

  Couldnt set the video (didnt seem right) so missed any good progs on a Tues night.

  WHY DID WE DO IT???

  IS THIS WHY ELDERS ARE SO EGOTISTICAL??

  i have this theory.. someone once said to me.....' its no good coming into the truth if you are a sensitive person.'.

  i have found in my experience as a former elder that a lot of elders have very large egos.

  my theory is this:.

  Hi Chukky,

  I would have to agree that a large percentage of the elders are egotistical, but not all.

  I would imagine it is because they believe the WTBTS rhetoric about being "spirit appointed" and "princes in the earth" etc. Such words would easily bolster the average JW elder ego, especially those who do a menial type job and have no standing in the workplace.

  Added to that is the way many in the cong idolize the elders. It is all a recipe for the type of bullying hierarchy that exists in most congs.

  Having said that there are some who are really kind, loving gentle people. Sadly they either burn out or are sidelined by the rest of the body.

  Can you help us????

  my wife and i have bee disassociated now for 10 months.however, we are both struggling psychologically.

  we both have no self worth and are on medication for depression.it kills us that at our age we no longer have any friends.our daughter will soon need open heart surgery and we feel we have no one to support us.

  we have to see witnesses every day at the school where they shun us.

  We love fireworks and are lucky to live near one of the first displays of the season which was held this weekend.

  the listener said on an earlier postyou've been out for awhile, perhaps your insight will help some of us who are still in the exiting process.

  which was a lovely thing to say, and made me feel 'valued' (thanks listener!).

  but, you know, 14 years on, and there are times, when i feel like i just left.. i took the children to the pictures yesterday (to see 'wallace & grommit').

  just wanted to pop in and say hi.. i'm from the uk and have made quite a few ex jw friends.

  we have met up a few times, and it's great to be with others who understand (my sense of humour lol!).

  i have been df for 14 years, and in the process became the black sheep of the family ( a familiar story).

  Most on this board with any legal knowlege/background seem to be of the opinion that this lawsuit being bought against Quotes is flawed to say the least.

  Is it just possible that within the WTBTS legal ranks there is someone who is trying the expose and bring down the society on a big scale by bringing this to court?

  well, today i began to think there really was no point in trying to argue a point in a reasonable reasoning way with a jw, after all, there's non so blind as those who will not see.. i saw my, mother, again and we had a humungous scrap on the wtbts.

  she wanted to know if i expected her to return to the rcatholic church as that's the religion she originated in.

  she told me how she had been badly beaten by the nuns and that on one occasion when she had missed class and gone to the cinema instead she had received such a severe clobbering that she could barely sit down for a week.

  sounds like you had a fun time there. (I dont think)

  I wonder if what your mum was saying about you and your children dieing really shows how she feels about the org and why she stays. No love just fear and ignorance.

  As to her comments about the nuns etc being worse, does she actually know what paedophilia is?

  I am glad you have parted friends though.
