Another point the JW's teach is that the 144,000 have been gathered since pentecost and would have consisted off all loyal christians who died after then until the teachings of the gospel became polluted by the catholic church amongst others.
Then it is speculated that there where 'worthy' ones down through the ages such as The Waldenses, Luther etc.
Then of course it had new light and that is why those from the time of the early dubs are just a remnant. 2000 years doesnt leave many spaces over to fill.
I have read recently (I cant remember where) that there where most likely more than 144,000 xtians who died in the Roman arenas anyway, so it is all very flaky when looked at in any detail.

What's So Special About These One's?
by Englishman inim intrigued by the jws teachings re the 144,000 and i would much appreciate some input.. i mean, is their any real scriptural back-up to say that a set number of people will go from earth to heaven, or is this just a witness interpretation thing?.
also, how does this remnant become aware that they have a calling?
does the wtbts tend not to persecute these ones, if they hold views that would be deemed as apostate in others?.

ignorance is bliss
by teejay ini saw kevin yesterday.. we met almost twenty years ago.

Hi Teejay
Surely the fact that your friend Kevin was DF for a while shows that somewhere within him there is an element of dubdom that he is unhappy with.
He doesnt sound like the type that would make waves and have the local gestapo elders make an example of.Just a thought.

My story
by Belmont ini originally posted my story on h20 last november, and since then have found jehovahs-witness.com and have been lurking avidly and gratefully most days.
your comments have been enormously helpful in the process of treading carefully (we have family still in), and making a new life for ourselves.
were in the process of leaving the organization quietly after 40 years.

Welcome Belmont,
Enjoyed reading your post.
Thats an enormous step to take after 40 years in. But people like you will give hope to others who think they can't change and start a new life for themselves.
I hope it goes well for you.
Keep us posted. -

Hi Had enough
you took the words right out of my mouth or maybe you just type faster than me.
But to go one step further yes the JW's do like an easy target or maybe just an easy way to count hours because they even hold studies
with people in mental health institutions.
I suppose to be charitable the average dub doesnt really know what the org is about and truly believes that they are peddling the 'truth'.
I know I did.
But I would never witness to a minor and even stopped those I was working with doing this on occasion, I reasoned that I wouldnt want anyone doing it to my children so why do it to theirs. -

dead serious question
by Mommie Dark inand it has nothing to do with jwdom, but i am really bothered and would appreciate some feedback.. thursday night there was a horrible hit/run in the street by my house.
a man was run down by an angry youth.
our local law enforcement has waited until today, tuesday, to return to the scene and do forensic analysis.
-
anglise
It is possible that the accident was well witnessed and so that aspect doesnt need forensic evidence as such.
what they could be doing is measurment etc to determine speed of vehicle before and after impact, lighting and weather conditions at the time and of course any skid marks will still be there.Just a few thoughts.

Has anyone felt like leaving God altogether?
by lookingnow22 ini know that the answer is yes, but it would help me to hear your sentiments on this.
.
after you decided that the wbts, and thus jw's were not god's chosen earthly organization did you feel like you wanted to leave and forget god altogether?.
-
anglise
But of course that is assuming that god exists in the form that religion tells us.
Surely if he/she/it does exist they could do a better job of telling us mere humans just how we should live and what kind of adulation they require to keep their egos suitably inflated.Maybe if there is something there they dont actually want to be 'found' by us, instead we could be some sort of biological experiment that is merely being observed at the moment.
As I feel now I dont trust any religion having seen how just one group can twist and manipulate an ancient book to mislead and entrap millions.
But I could think differantly in a years time.

I got my nerve up, gonna try this again!
by LostMyReligion ini first posted to this board as "truman" about 2 months ago.
it was a time of deep depression, confusion, fear, and paranoia for me, as i had just 3 weeks before discovered that everything i had believed for 27 years was only a pipe dream.. everyone was very welcoming, but after only a few posts, i got so afraid i had to stop.
i was fearful of revealing too much, being somehow discovered, and of the possibility of saying the wrong thing, incurring the ire of my betters here.

Welcome Lostmyreligion,
I can feel for you.
We seem to have at least on the surface a similar history in the org.
Yes you must try to keep your family together, but you must also consider your own life and sanity.
Its really good that you have an xjw group near you, I have never been to one, I dont think there are too many of them here in the UK, but I find going on-line really helps.
Feel free to email me if you think it would help.
Above all dont ever give up. -

Another newbie
by Copernicus infirst, id like to thank the many posters on this board (and the old h2o) who made my exiting passage through the entrapping maze of wt ideology a relatively expeditious and much less painful possibility then it would have been otherwise.
the value of the service you perform in helping to dispel the sense of paralyzing of isolationism felt by those who begin to realize the truth about the wts and its pompous, self-designated status a god sole representative on earth today, cant be overstated.
ive been a lurker here for a least a year and i was finally prompted to write by the inevitable reappearance of the pedantic you know.

Hi Copernicus
welcome. I look forward to hearing from you now you have started posting. I too lurked for a while before I felt able to post, it can be quite a big step for some. -

How does one become a JW???
by Downdog01 inevery source i've looked at is very vague and my witness friends just keep encouraging me to stop asking questions and come to meetings.
my sense is, since i disagree so much with jw doctrine and the way it is presented in awake and especially watchtower that i'd never make it as a jw.
still i am curious what the process is and what "tests" if any one must pass.. any info will be much appreciated.. thanks,.

Hi DD01,
Cant add anything much to the points covered other than the fact you will be 'love bombed' by all the JW's you come in contact with, until of course you are dunked and then it will change.
Up until that point they will appear to be the most loving and caring org on the planet.Just a warning.
We were in for 18 years having chosen it in our early 20's, and we have seen all of it.Just remember the 'truth ' they will teach you now is not the 'truth' you would have been taught just a few years ago.
Please keep reading and ask all the questions ie 1914, 1975, the generations, Bulgaria, disfellowshipping/shunning etc and make them answer.
Especially ask what would happen if after a few years you simply changed your mind and stopped associating.I wish this info had been as available 18 years ago, then I wouldnt have raised my children in a cult.
