after very little discussion and even contact with my parents in the last few months, they seemed to decide, either for themselves, or maybe they were put up to it, to confront me on my view of the watchtower society and condemn me, my husband and children to death.....any time soon.....when armageddon comes.

i'm afraid they continually called me an apostate and told me how apostates are , 'evil, horrible, bad and satanic people!

Maybe you standing your ground will cause them to think-who knows. Are they very elderly?

I hope your children can cope with the premature loss that their grandparents have inflicted on them.

I hate the bullying tactics of the borg, it is all emotional blackmail.

those witnesses that are lazy, go from job to job, and just becasue the are "zealous" for the truth they expect help from other.

i remeber one elder (married with one child) expected people to give him and his wife gas monie to go out on service.

It is a common occurance in the UK to pioneer then deliberately work short hours and get the state to top up with benefits due to a low income.

(Maybe the UK benefit system is too easy to scam)

I am talking about people who were quite capable of holding down a full time job, not disabled or incapacitated in any way.

Our local needs items often covered supported the pios in various ways such as money, gifts and inviting to join families for meals days out etc.

We had 1 local pio sister who used to get very friendly with her RV's ,especially elderly ladies and was given cars (old but road worthy), clothes etc because they felt sorry for her.

Thankyou for publishing this story. They use very heavy emotional blackmail to make people obey their numerous rules including their "No blood policy" If you disobey you are either disfellowshipped by the congregation body of elders or are deemed to have disassociated yourself. The consequences of both theses actions is to find oneself completely cut off and isolated from any JW family, friends or work colleagues. Under the duress of suffering the same penalty themselves the JW will not talk to, contact in any way or even nod a greeting to you. To them you are dead. The only contact you are allowed is "necessary family business" (as stipulated by the Watch Tower Society) ie family bereavement which they are allowed to tell you about. I dont think they can truly say that they dont use force to make members obey . I was a witness for 20 years

when i came to the realisation that my whole religious upbringing was in question and i was led to this site, i immediately wanted to get involved - i could see that there was a lot of caring, spiritual people here that had created an amazing community and i wanted to be a part of that community (to release some pent up feelings and to maybe help others in some way) but having read that many of you guys lurked for months and in some cases years before you finally posted - i'm intrigued as to why?????

was it selfishness - couldn't bring yourself to commit and be a part of the community, you were just content to observe?

was it laziness?

I think the WTBTS has done a very good job of instilling fear about the internet.

They have demonized it to such an extent that it can take people a long time to over come that fear.

If you have really trusted the org and been a good dub then you can feel a great disloyalty by just using the internet let alone actually joining and posting on a forum such as JWD. It can also seem very scary. Maybe satan really is controlling what people post, should I even read it!!! Daren't let anyone know what I have seen and read.

All I can say is credit where credit is due they are a fine example of a high control group.

To all lurkers/readers out there Take your time, read as much as you can, post if and when you are ready.
