When I first faded, I re-read the entire Bible and saw things in a whole "new light"! LOL! It made me realize all the things we took for granted that the WTS had taught...most of it not true! I could see how they took verses out of context continually to prove their points and that would not be what the verse was talking about at all.

Now, I've moved to a place where talking religion is a burden...kind of like you feel.

I did go to a huge new evangelical church a few months ago and I must say it was entertaining! They had large TV screens that kept posting beautiful pictures during the sermon and the choir....it was packed out!

Guess that's the new obsession in the U.S.

I think Neil Young is just voicing the opinion of the majority in the U.S. and abroad right now. Even Tony Blair cancelled a trip to Washington because of how it would look to be seen with GW!!! I don't know when that has ever happened!

i have a number of friends whose family members are different religions, but a bit over the top as much as jws.

it seems to me that these families also want to discuss religion but my friends and i do not care.

do you find that you have gravitated to peers who have similar backgrounds and/or family experiences as you regardless of their religious affiliation.

LG...I just saw on a news report that since 9/11 more young people than ever before are turning to religion...mostly the evangalical ones that offer some entertainment! (Not the old type, where you just go sit and listen to a boring sermon!) Anyway, they found that at college campuses about 70% of students say they are religious and go to church often.

So if you get a feeling that more people are becoming religious, I'd say you were getting the right vibes. I keep getting religious e-mails lately from friends. That seems to be the "new" in thing to e-mail...prayers that you pass on, etc.

That's very different from what the WTS said would be happening in the last days...maybe we're not there yet!

My conversation with Richie's Dad

it's his dad, he say's 'who is this?

the dad says 'where do you know my son from?

dad says, 'richie says he doesn't know you and i want to know how you know my son?

For all he knows, his son could have accidentally talked to a pedophile & he wants to find out if his son is safe.

For one thing, RR is 6' 5" and weighs 250 lbs...kind of doubt they are worried about child molesters!

It just seems they have grounded him and taken away all forms of communication for the time being. Unless anyone here wants to be outed, then I see why they might not want to give their names or where they know him from to the dad. At this point we really don't know how the dad is reacting to all of this.

I know of a lot of cases where an unbelieving mate is supportive of the JW and raising the kids in the religion. I know of a sister that was DF'd a few years back and her husband was really upset with her. (It was over the U.N. issue!) He thinks she should go back...what' up with that??? It makes me wonder what the mate is up to that he wants the believing mates time spent on JW activities!!!

First Ever Birthday Present From My Parents!!!

my parents are 80 yrs old and today they stopped by with a wrapped birthday present for me!

If you all have read my posts, I told of my mom finding out about the U.N. issue and leaving the org a yr before I did. One of my brothers was DF'd over questioning the WTS about it, and myself and another brother have faded. We all pretty much feel the same way...but as my parents were in for over 50 + yrs, they've done an about change for sure. It has been about 5 yrs now that we (except one brother) have been out and little by little have been changing our viewpoints on many things. Birthdays is one of them...I guess they thought better now than NEVER!!! Wow!!! I just never expected for them to give me a birthday present!!! (I can't help but think of my entire childhood without a single birthday present from them...kind of makes me cry a little thinking about it!)

I have quite a collection of fine china, just not for use everyday...so I had been saying recently that I needed to go out and buy myself a nice set of everyday dishes....They got me just what I had been looking at!!! I was so happy to get what I really wanted!!!

i began studying with the witnesses in 02 and was baptized in 04 but within months of baptism i stopped attending meetings.

my marriage was rocky at best before i studied (husband abusive) but after it just continued to get worse.

i had a baby daughter when i started and had my son while going to meetings and out in service as unbaptized publisher.
