i was d'fd 18 months ago, i was prepared for the shunning within my family and the borg of all my friends (as i never associated with "worldly people") but i have been totally blown away with how nobody cares about my 2 young children!!.
my kids have not heard from their aunties and uncle since i was thrown out in feb '01.
30 years later and I am still not accepted... but thats fine. I have the power... I wont speak to my mother now, as long as she is a JW. My kids neither like her nor want to see her (yes they have met). They know my background, and that I dont like her.
Your roots start with you, and your kids. Once that sinks in, you will be doing fine. It is thier loss, not yours.

many of you know jan, some love her and some don't.
but she is a wonderful personal friend of mine and i want to see her web pages go on, they are helpful not just on the jw stuff, but on other cults.
I resell webspace, mostly for the different biker groups out there. With 300 megs of space at 10 gigs of traffic, plus all the wiz-bang stuff simon refered to, we manage it all for less than $40/month. Hell, I pay for several sites myself, since we dont make money in our politics.

we have all seen the yearbooks that are printed by wts with accounts of people who suffered to become part of their organization.
would it not be helpful to raise public awareness if the ex-jw community likewise had a *yearbook* including experiences of those who have overcome extraordinary obstacles while in the cult or because they were trying to leave the cult?
granted, everyone's story has it own merit, but if we had to narrow down the number of people to be profiled--who would you chose?

I own 2 Harleys... an 85 fulldresser, and a 47 chopper. I work on them all the time, but thats part of the fun.
My full dresser was bought about 7 years back for $9000, and is worth $11,500 now.... the same type Kawasaki, or other import, would be at least half its origional value. I dont dislike imports, I just dont buy them.
Stay away from the Indians for now, they are still working out some bugs.
If you have the money and arent mechanically inclined, buy a new Harley. I wont, but I build my own. I buy them used and keep them going.
Harleys are a major fad right now, but it is finally slowing down. Many of us that rode before it was "cool" to have one are amazed at what we see. Get your bike, ride it, just dont be over friendly with groups that you arent known by. If you dont understand that, email me.
I run a group here in the USA, Sons of Liberty Riders, and we fight the prejudices that mimily showed. So many people have no idea that many things we do are not just to irritate her little world. Louder pipes not only sound good and make the bike run better, but it also lets the car drivers know we are within hitting range so they can either aim better or get out of the way. As for "ape hangers" not being safe, I didnt know mimily ever drove a bike with them on. I personally love them and generaly use the 18" over bars. One of my bikes is posted in the "Car Wars" thread. They are not only safe, but they are very comfy. The origional ape hanger laws were written as outlaw gang profiling laws, so the police could stop bikers with no real reason. This was back in the 60's, and we have much trouble removing these laws.
Final answer to the origional question.... anything 2 wheeled is great and a fun lifestyle (my kids have ridden since they were 2). Follow your gut and not the fad. While the Harleys do attract the women, they also attract the cops, and the thieves.

today i had my jeep towed into the shop..i dreaded the ride in with the driver (im extremly shy).
but we ended up haveing a great conversation about what vehicle i should buy next.. what a perfect person to ask cuz of his job.
he said "dont get another jeep they roll too easy and they catch on fire.".
i am so upset i don't know where to begin!
i met this guy back in dec. at my job, during the first week i started.
(i had a post in the past about my dating him, he's a jw) everything was going cool, except for the fact that: 1) he had a second job as a producer/dj and 2) he didn't have a car, he had to borrow his parents car.
Ask him into one of the offices there, to talk for a minute.. make sure it is where others are within earshot.... once in the room, slap him and yell "dont you ever touch me there again, I am not that kind of girl".. and storm out...... the rest should fall into place nicely.

When I was locked up one time, I used my one phone call to call mom to bail me out. All I heard was how I was gonna die when the "end" came... and since I made my bed, I had to sleep in it. I sat there till trial.
Years later, after I am married, settled down, doing my thing... I get a call.... her current hubby (#4 or #5) was either hitting her or threatening to. I thought for a minute, then answered her with her own words... "mom, you made your bed......"
We dont speak now... I cannot speak to her as long as she is a witness. It is nice to turn the tables.

Over the years, I have met many people on the net that I also met in person. I take long trips on the bike, and usually put the trip plans out there and route the trip thru thier towns. It is a great thing to do.
Today, I had the pleasure of meeting one of our own from here on this site.... Preston. What a good guy, we sat and talked for hours. Part of that time was spent talking in the pool tho, it was about 106 degrees.
He is ruffly half my age, and size, but he scared the hell outta me when he got there. I was in the garage working on one of the harleys when he just appeared behind me.... whew.... heart sorta jumped.
We covered many topics, talked like we knew each other for some time. Since we both live in Phoenix, I am sure we will hook up again.
Preston is welcome in my house anytime.
