  Why can't Scarlett Johansson play a transgender character?!

  scarlett johansson was cast to play a transgender role in some film or another.. recently she pulled out.

  i don't know whether she jumped or was pushed but trans activists, despite claiming to represent only 0.3% of the population, have quite a powerful voice.. do they want a trans actor to play the trans role, is that it?.

  if scarlett johansson shouldn't play a trans role, does that mean a trans actor shouldn't play a cis role?.

  Bad_Wolf You just further proved my point. Why waste all that money on an A-list actor? If people are only paying to see a film because it features George Clooney or whoever, then that's their problem for being so shallow that they value a big name over a compelling story.
  
  The only actors that are really worth paying to see specifically are comedians. Anyone can make you smile or frown or cry as long as the plot calls for them to do so, but very few can truly make a person laugh. Why do you think comedians receive so much more criticism than any other actors? Controversial material aside. It always comes down to whether or not they are seen as funny.

  What I believe it boils down to is this: non-minority actors are discouraged from playing minority roles, period. Although there isn't nearly enough public outcry where it actually matters, such as when an able-bodied person portrays a disabled person. There really is no excuse to not hire an actual disabled person. Just because a studio wants a particular actor for the role doesn't excuse them for casting said actor. For example, why is it so important for, say, George Clooney to play a paraplegic? And why is it more important than letting an actual paraplegic play the part?

  Anyone own any movie props or replicas?

  so, i was recently watching a youtube vid.. a star wars fan had bought a replica lightsaber, screen accurate down to the last detail, made from the same materials as the real thing.

  (it obviously didn't have a blade!).

  but it looked real in every other way, right size, etc.. the guy bought it second hand from e-bay for $150.

  I have a replica of one of the swords from the Lord of the Rings films. Frodo's sword Sting, to be exact. I bought it for $50 from a swap meet over a decade ago while "official" replicas that came with a certificate of authenticity were being sold for over $200 at the local mall at the same time.
  
  The funny thing about it was the difference between my Sting and the "official" Sting. The silver vines wrapped around the hilt of mine are painted on, while the "official" Sting had bas-relief vines. While the latter looked a lot nicer, one has only to watch the movies to see that they used a sword with painted-on vines, which technically makes my "UNofficial" replica more authentic.

  Screwed up sexually

  i was thinking about how the borg screws up and sexually neuters their flock by telling them when single to "deaden their body" and then boom as soon as there's a ring on the finger to not be denying eachother.. do any of you know of jws who have been screwed up by these teachings?

  i know 2, 1 elder came back from honeymoon having a nervous breakdown unable to cope with the cd that sex produced in his head.

  and the other called up her parents while on honeymoon, crying and begging for themto come and get her, since she was so shocked that sex hurt.

  verse 12 of this chapter shows us that jehovah takes a direct hand in this affair in fighting against his own people.

  so we can ask, are we today seeing god’s active hand against the watchtower society in exposing the child abuse cases among jehovah’s witnesses around the world?

  humbled Don't you DARE drag foster children into this! I lived in a series of foster homes from 13 to 18. I know EXACTLY what the system is like! I was taken away from my mother based on lies that CPS did not bother to investigate. At one point, I didn't get to see my mom once for NINE WHOLE MONTHS. To this day, over 20 years later, I still have literal nightmares about those five god-awful years I spent in cold, unloving, abusive foster homes.
  
  If you don't have personal experience with something, I suggest you keep your opinions on the matter to yourself. You can't possibly know what it's like unless you've been there, and despite what I went through, MY sympathy goes to the immigrant children being torn from their families. I can only imagine how much worse it is for them than it was for me.

  LV101 If you think tRump is so great, then there couldn't have ever been a president who didn't meet your lofty standards. He is literally the worst of the worst in every way possible. That's just a fact, man. Not my personal opinion. I have never cared one way or another about any president until now. He hasn't done one single thing right.

  The abortion crowd never says they are "pro abortion" it is always "pro choice."
  
  And why doesn't the pro-life crowd ever refer to themselves as "anti-choice"? Because that's what they really are. I have never met a single one who gave a rat's rear end about babies once they are born. If they REALLY cared, they'd be donating to every children's fund possible and adopting unwanted children instead of creating new ones from scratch (because apparently it's SO much more important for YOU to have a kid who is biologically related to you than it is for a child with NO family whatsoever to be given a loving home).
  
  And yes, I am fully aware of how "expensive" adoption is, but there's a little thing called fostering. You actually get PAID to do it, and you get paid a LOT. I know this for a fact because I lived in a series of foster homes throughout my teen years, and every single foster parent of mine was living high off the hog. And no, they didn't have a second job. They were all stay-at-home foster parents, as is required by law. FYI, you can adopt one of your foster kids for practically free. One of my foster parents adopted two little boys, and all she had to pay was a small paperwork fee.
  
  If a person truly cares about children, they will prove it with their actions, not by how loudly they decry abortion.

  my mil came by to drop some pressure on my wife to go to the three day this weekend.

  she told her that she wants our baby to live forever and that she wants us to come back.

  apparently people would be “so happy” to see us return to the fold.
