I am wondering is it as simple as the animals hearing the quake before humans do. Also I was reading about "morgan's sea gypsies" basically a seafaring tribe that sail the orient (boy I feel so unPC). Their "elders" passed down for generations that if you see the bay drain the water will come back at the same speed it left, and to run to higher ground. Many fishermen died picking up fish that were beached when the water receded except the Sea gypsies who ran. Tsunami's are old as earth I am wondering from an evolutionary stand point if humans who live in a high risk area pass down infromation on how to survive and even that may only happen once a generation. It seems like DNA would pass some type of universal tsunami warning system over time. Think of it. Most of the animals with out it would be slain like the humans and never breed.
It reminds me of the car crash cammeras in Japan. A scientist figured out before a crash the same exact patternd of sounds are made no matter what type of vehicles are involved. It is usually the revveing of the engine or screech of tires followed by broken glass. The cammera listens for tires screeching and starts recording, if it hears the glass it knows it was an accident, and saves the file. If such an event like a car crash can be forseen by a traffic cammera an 9.0 earthquake should give an enumerable amount of signals to any group of creatures in the path of one.

great tribulation or no great tribulation that is my question
by BlackSwan of Memphis inso, what's the deal?
are witnesses now expecting a tribulation to precede armageddon or are they expecting armageddon without a tribulation?.
because in the last couple of years some of the things i am hearing and reading, lead me to believe they are phasing out the concept of a tribulation.

In short the tribulation is first and is a man made event. Nothing remotely supernatural. THe watchtower stated last year (2004) that they had no idea if it had alrady started, but they would know when it was about to be over (no duh), and related it to a woman in labor. Mathmatically the tribulation could last for days, to centuries, and is basically the a new generation of the crusades which erode the human race to near extinction (anyone thinks this sounds weirdly like battle tech).
After in general most (all ) of the "religious" people are dead (I never understand this part) magically out of no place Satan mattereallizes along with his demon army and decides to kill the anointed (using bad jw math less than 8000 people which makes you wonder why he has not did it already). This starts armageddon. Now idiots of the world who apparently don't think Satan is bad, or assumes Jesus is evil Join satan for the sole purpose of killing anointed people that seem to be mostly gereartic, megalomaniacs, or slightly insane. Jesus comes nukes satan and the army of idiots (hmm maybe Jesus was evil) and armageddon is over. All the non idiots that did not try to box with god get to burry the corpses and live in Jesus' new communist police state. Oh maybe thats why people join Satan.
This doctrine seems to be imploding under the "WTF was Franz smoking" clause article nine. -

Do " Bad News Religions" Sell Better?
by JH inprobably you all noticed that when disasters strike, news papers sell better.
the tsunami was a good example.
is it that people love to read bad news rather than good news?

Considering they were running from the amageddon doctrine like from a 100 foot wave a few months ago they may decide that this whole knew "good news" only campaign is not as interesting to their house holders as the old shock and awe. Maybe they will simply turn the old man vs man doctrine into man vs nature (ie man vs his weaknesses) so that they can have a politically correct armageddon.

WITNESS MENTALITY TOWARDS THE TSUNAMI DISASTER
by Mary ini feel like screaming right about now...........the dickhead who takes our bookstudy group just came over and said "...i wonder how many brothers and sisters died in the tsunami disater.
" while that's a natural concern, his next comment blew me away "....it figures that the media hasn't bothered mentioning jehovah's witnesses helping out in this disaster!
" i looked at him stunned for a minute and said "and why on earth would they mention jehovah's witnesses?

You know what would have been funny. If they said "well at least all those people will be ressurected in the new order."

I didn't love God enough to stop smoking
by embeth2525 inyesterday, i went to visit my friend, who is the jw that i was studying with and i told her about the problems i had had with the other congregation i had been in before.
i told her about how they had treated me not so very nice and how i had a terrible time, then quitting cigaretts.
i wasn't able to quit smoking back then, although i have since quit about 3 years now.

Some won't believe me but our CO said it is okay to relapse into smoking if you are trying to quit. ANd to try not to let the relapse "stumble you" and that your continuous attempt to quit is what "jehovah remembers".

MY parents are going ape about this and holding it as holy as the videos from the WTS proper. They have watched every repeat showing. It actually smaked them in the face, but they did not notice. THey were looking are all these christians preaching about armageddon. The same exact preaching JWs do. They felt warm reunited with other denominations of christianity. But note the wts say now days basically the only thing christians are doing wrong in general is they are not preaching about armageddon happening soon.
In scale I would assume there are more non jws preaching the end than jws as my parents noted. So Using the main argument of the watchtower that means that there is nothing wrong with a large protion of christianity and even non christians religions becaus they are doing Jehovah's will annoucing the last days. it is like that stone s cry out passage. Well Watchtower if you own a tv the stones are screaming, but since you need cable or DTV and you guys discourage those services you probally would not know. BTW there was a recent article that implied the end did not come because jws were mediocre or not being a good enought people as a whole. -

I ment that the lawyers know law, and hlc knows medicine. You don't have to be a DR to know medicine, nurses and paramedic prove that every day. I admitt hlc has zero capacity to practice medicine except in rare cases where they are DRs (yeah I know those HLC guys too).
And yes I can't figure out why they let construction workers get so knowledgable. For some reason unlike "apostate" literature HLC is not banned from reading medical text. This puts them over time at odds with common sense. Then again I know more "consultant" HLC members that work at/for hospitals and make much more than thier old job hammering 2x4s (btw I heard construction work is starting to pay good now too bad they are too old to go back). -
