HI Brad,
Wow ... that is too bad your mom reacted so strongly. Well ... it looks like we can discuss more over beer Tuesday ... looking forward to it. - Jim
dear gentle members, .
remember the thread i started about my "liberal" jw mother?
well, forget all about that.

jehovah's witness across north america are being sternly counseled at this week's service meeting that they should pack lunches during the 2004 dictrict convention instead of leaving the site to eat elsewere or return with food.
in a letter read during the announcements, members are told this is a "serious problem".
reportedly jws have been banned from some convention locations because the venues want concession stand business if jws insist on bringing carry-out meals into the facility.
Apostates will be identified by bringing their prepared lunch in a MacDonalds bag.
Yes. Maybe a bunch of us should show up, then order a catering service, with beer and pizza delivery ... yes, and stoke up a few cigars too.
i find it quite interesting that, due to minimus' thread about "the end", there were a lot of comments about 1975. everybody who made comments about it here didn't seem very bothered by the fact that they had such high hopes for the year and were let down by yet another false jw prediction.
yet the borg chastises and condemns as being arrogant those same people who may have drifted away because of it.
to me, that says a lot about how, even subconsciously, great it must be to be out of that high control organization.
Discussion of 1975 overshadowed about everything else.
Next to the name, Jehovah, the date 1975 ruled JW lives ... it was all-consuming, and controlled every aspect of the organization ... this was it ... the time was at hand ... the preaching work was urgent ... time so short ... 1975 was the hallmark of successful marketing, for it forced someone to abandon their normal lives to engage in promoting this prophecy ... it was likewise among the most successful growth periods of the JW religion. And frankly, world events were much more stressful, such as the civil rights movement, college riots, Viet Nam, gas shortages, economic trouble, the churches in disarray, and so on ... the Watchtower capitalized on this to the limit.
I was somehow able to put 1975 behind me at the time as a mistake, or as a misunderstanding of the exact year ... but, what started to get to me was how world events changed and no longer fit with the prophecy ... eventually the King of the North, the Soviet Union was showing signs of dissolving ... and by 1992, it was all-too obvious that the last generation of 1914 was at its end. Also, I could see from the persepctive as an Elder the wrongs tolerated by the religion, such as not properly dealing with child abuse. It became embarassing ... we would have had to be psychotic to remain Jehovah's Witnesses.
To me 1975 is a distant 29 year old memory ... an event that ruined the lives and faith of many ...
firpo carr disfellowshipped?
greg stafford in limbo?.
what's happening to all the former defenders of the jw religion?.
ohappyday
Has the JW religion finally become impossible to defend?
It has always been impossible to defend ... they just didn't know it until they left it.

the ultimate test of our existence: termination.. i don't fear death...no reservations, no nightmares.. craig
I faced death a couple of years ago ... I learned very fast that it's not the fear of death that bothered me. Rather, the extreme pain of a massive heart attack overwhelmed me, driving out all fear of anything, even God ... I welcomed death if it had been the only way to end the pain. Yet, I did not want to die. I still don't want to die. Fortunately, I am alive to talk about it.
when you feel low, or someone on line said unkind and untrue things about you ... or you are stressed and taking life too seriously ... maybe an irritating conservative is being overly righteous, or a liberal is pontificating the cure or all humankind's problems ... then click on this, wiggle your mouse ... and have a good laugh ... it puts things in perspective.
you must have your sound on: http://www.revelate-rock.com/elasticbaby.html.
amazing

Amazing
i've just been sorting out various paperwork and going through the filing cabinet.
as well as every pay advice i've ever had (20+ years worth back to '83) i also have every bank statement, every cheque stub and, erm ... a big wad of atm receipts going back at least 10 years !
i just can't stand to throw things away for fear that i may need them one day!!.
Simon,
Until rcently, I kept a file on each tax year, containing every document, recepit, and tax return back to 1968. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) can audit back up to 7 years, but can make any claim up to ten years if they allege fraud. They have abused many taxpayers over the years until Congress finally curtailed the abuse in the 1990s.
I now only keep records 7 years, but I will maintain my tax returns until they place them in my coffin.
hello, i am writing because i was disfellowshipped a week and a half ago.
i have not been to the meeting in over two and a half years.
you would think they would leave me alone.
HI MZindependant,
First you must be careful what you post here, because even small clues may help the Society monitors to figure out who you are. The Society monitors the ex-JW boards.
I am writing to find out if anyone knows what happens after my elders contact the society and I want to also know if I have grounds for a lawsuit.
I am not sure what state or country you live in so its hard to have an idea of the applicable laws. Some of your terminology does not sound like the USA.
Normally its hard to sue a religion due to constitutional protections of separation between church and state. However, you need to talk to a lawyer in your area to get advice ... you may be able to go after them for slander and maybe violation of their own rules, thus discrimnating against you ... at least there is some precedant in some areas for doing this ... but, the best you can expect is to get a monetary settlement ... they will likely keep you shunned if you sue them.
If you decide to play by their rules because of your children and husband ... then never mention being on any Internet site associated with ex-JWs or even reportedly a JW site ... deny any associaion with ex-JWs, and swear loyalty to the Society above all else ... agree with all doctrines ... and promise to go door-to-door and to the meetings ...
The Elders are trained to detect any possible deviation in thought patterns ... so you need to think like a JW again in order to get reinstated. This will be most difficult to do, however, because you will have to compromise your self-worth and dignity.
On the other hand, suing them may bring some satisfaction and help you find new ties with your children and husband, who may begin to see the beast for what it is and themselves pull away from the organization ... that is what I did with my family ... I threatened suit, and they saw the beast come out to attack us ... that helped them make their own decisions.
So, give it some thought and hopefully you will find what your heart really wants.
some christians, especially pacifists or conscientious objectors feel it is inappropriate for christians to fight in war.
they, like the watchtower, will respond that warriors like king david were israelites who fought for god's nation, and this makes them different ... well ... not so fast oh brain-dead idiots filled with nonsense, and fully unable to think clearly.
oh hypocrites who fail to cite things in the bible that utterly demolish your pet theories.. first, the bible teaches that god is always the same forever.
Schism,
Isn't this just a duplicate of what you posted here before? If so, why not just post a link to the original? Some people call it "spam".
I have no clue what you are talking about. If I posted on this topic before it would have been months or years ago under my other screen name ... and all those threads are locked out for the time being. But I honestly don't recall posting this in duplicate ... and I have no intention of spaming.
well, folks, finally here!
