If the Watchtower Society published such an article, I would cry tears of joy.

I have not been on the board much. I have been back in the Diploma Factory (university) since the middle of May. It is very fun. The professors are very good. My current instructor is an African American woman from the South. She is a riot! Everyone in class loves her. I passed my college proficiency exams in math, English, and critical thinking. I am especially pleased that my math score was 100%. As soon as they get my entire past course hours transferred, then it will allow me to move into my advanced classes. (I have over 900 course hours to get credited - LOL.)
As a passing thought: Please don't bite each other?s heads off regarding politics. It's not worth it. While we favor one candidate over another ... in the long run it does not make that much difference. Life goes on. Our relationships here on the board are far more important than political debate. The thing that disgusts me the most are the conspiracy theories. Use good critical thinking to evaluate the claims of both sides. Politicians, like Hollywood fiction artists, are expert spin masters, similar to the Watchtower. Both candidates have their strengths and weaknesses, and both can do a good job. I just hate to see all the venom and extreme passion - especially if it causes us to become enemies - we have been through too much for that sort of thing.
Anyway, see you all sometime later. Have fun and keep things lightened up with humor.

Hi Farkel,
I love the Sting. It was a brilliant movie ... well acted by an excellent cast of actors. Your rednition of the music is likewise excellent. I think you would do great in the recording business. Have you considered doing that? Thanks for putting up this post. - Jim W.

Be careful Yeru,
In addition to gaining weight, lowering heart disease and lung cancer risk ... one also stops burning up brain cells from the carbon monoxide ... but there is a terrible side effect. It is the worst of all:
non-smokers have a high risk of becoming Liberals ... ouch, the "L" word ... leaves a nasty taste in my mouth.
Good job quiting ... congradualations. - Jim W. -

Once Anointed, Always Anointed?
by Sweetp0985 inmaybe this is a questions i should be asking a active jw but they wouldnt like my question after their answer.
because i was reading an article that was talking about jesus came in 1918 or something to that matter, so more cockamamy s**t. but how do they feel about if an "anointed" person turns away from jehovah are they still considered anointed?
like for instance someone has been partaking of the emblems and for some weird reason they get df'd or just decide to stop taking the emblems.
-
Amazing1914
I spent nearly 25 years of the JW anointed. Once anointed, always anointed. Upon being DF'd, an anointed person can be reinstated and remain anointed. If the anointed person dies in an "unfaithful" condition, only then are they replaced by one among the Great Crowd. - Jim W.

Hi Elsewhere,
Excellent article. Of course, this caught my eye:
Verse said he's changed his ways through castration, therapy and renewed spirituality. Verse said he's a Jehovah's Witness.
Where does one begin to understand this? Yes, therapy has some merit. Certainly, castration helps a lot. But, becoming a JW? Who does he think he's kidding?

I read this book shortly after I became a JW. It was shared with me by my Bible Study. Unlike today, the Society never made any fuss about JWs who read this book.
Schell told a story that was somewhat true of his era as a JW. Many things have evolved in the organization since then, so that the book seems very out of date. All-in-all, I was not as impressed with his book as with works by other authors. I doubt some of the conspiracy theory comments Schnell made about the Society testing new methods on Germans first before attempting to introduce such to American JWs.
Also, by his own admission, he was not as strong a JW as one might think at first. Some of his material did not connect with me, especially when he got into the Trinity doctrine at the end. It just did not fit.
I read the book twice again 25 years later, when I was leaving the JWs. I made more of a connection with Schnell the second time around. I think his book is sincere, and is a good record of JW life under Rutherford-ism. But, I do not find it noteworthy for today's ex-JWs. I think Franz's books and some others are far superior in historical content, the mechanics as you mention, as well as doctrine.

Feild service just became totally optional. July 1 watchtower 2004.
by XQsThaiPoes in"today we likewise do not use fear or simular negative emotions, such as shame, to coerce others into obeying christ.
only whole souled obedience based on love for god and christ makes jehovahs heart rejoyce.".
so if you feel half-a* about door knocking stay home..

Actually that is what this article is trying to fix. They are saying to allow people to doubt and hope it goes away.
Over many decades the Society has made similar glowing statements in the Watchtower and Awake! that lead eaders to believe they are kind, moderate, and non-judgmental. Then they will publish very different articles in the same Watchtower or Kingdom Ministry or a hard-bound book which send a harsh and guilt-ridden message. As Ray Franz once stated, they are very capable of publishing dual-opposing doctrines at the same time. Such ambiguity is a hallmark of Watchtower-ism ... it is what keeps their members in a state of confusion and denial. It is a control mechanism. - Jim W.

New World Translation and the Greek Text of Westcott and Hort
by Dogpatch inaccording to the title page of the kingdom interlinear translation of the greek scriptures, 1969 edition.. history of the new world translation.
only the greek text is said to be ?westcott and hort?
first: does the watchtower society claim that nwt is a translation of w&h?
-
Amazing1914
Excellent Randy,
The Society stated:
Where we have varied from the reading of the Westcott and Hort text, our footnotes show the basis for our preferred reading.
Actually, they do not always show such explanatory footnotes. A good example is Hebrews 11:1 regarding the definition of faith. They deviate considerably from Westcott & Hort in order to create a definition of faith that points to "future" expectations. Whereas, the definition in Westcott & Hort matches closely that found in the King James, which is faith fulfilled today. The differences go right to the root of fundamental Christian teachings. - Jim W.

Do You Really Think The wt Feel The Outrage Felt On This Site?
by Celtic in.
i don't think they get it yet.
-
Amazing1914
Hi Cetlic,
Most JWs do not get it. They view us as they are taught to view us: as evil apostates, lovers of the devil, and haters of Jehovah. This view is likely true of most who work at Bethel. I am sure, however, that there are some at Bethel who get it, who underetand, but they feel uncomfortable to discuss it, for fear of being viewed as apostate. As for the very highest leaders, it is not so much whether they get it, but more that they do not care.
