Once they made an annoucement at the meeting before the CO's visit that if they were having them for a meal, to prepare something simple, because it seemed that everyone felt that had to put on big lavish spreads for them. It is hard. They can't choose what they have for these meals and they are at the mercy of all cooks. good or bad. Im sure it would get rough on the digestive system after a while.

Sympahty for Circuit and District Overeer's Poor Wives
by frankiespeakin in.
i would like this thread to express sympathy for these poor women, that because of being duped by a typical "end of the world cult", have given up a stable enviroment, suffer god know what as they endure listening to the same booring talk for 6 months, away from friends and family, no home to decorate, under constant scrutiny from the other sisters, etc.... i wouldn't like this thread to degenerate into what bad things these poor victims of an "end of the world cult" have done, but more toward sympathy, to help especially the younger ones who may be reading jwd, and need the courage to do something to get out of this predicament, before they waste thier whole life away slaving for the ungratefull wt organization.. they could use some help here and understanding as well.

Why the Jehovah's Witness religion will live on and on
by free2beme ini have read in here a few post, and would expect to see these kind of post.
where people hope the religion will end some day and perhaps then all that has happened as a former witness to us, will be stopped and the witnesses will see the error of their ways and life will be good again.
i never think they will end, and here are some reasons why i think this way.. third world countries thinking.

I have to agree with you , freetobeme, for some the strict religion indoctrination of the JWS just works for them. That's great for them. The JWS won't stop to exist as a religion for all the reasons you stated. Its hard to understand how in a free-thinking society , that people can still want a life style that dictates how they live and breathe, but that's what makes the world such a wacky and complex place. Im just happy I don't need to be ruled by a bunch of men who claim to be guided by god's spirit, or whatever they claim now, not sure its been awhile since I was associated.

Zen. your post sums up the mysteries of religion vs. spirituality perfectly, for me anyways. Spirituality is a personal experience and everyone should be allowed their own feelings and beliefs as your post states. Good point about not taking one's own beliefs too seriously.. as much as one should not try to influence others to follow their own beliefs.

Come quickly, Lord Jesus
by myelaine ini have found myself saying this more frequently lately.
do you want an end to this system, or do you want proof of god?
for myself, i am just broken hearted by the state of the world.

Sunspot and sonnyboy, So true as your posts say that JWS have wasted so much of their lives away. Waiting for God to come fix everything and make it perfect. Time in field service that could be better spent improving human lives here and now. I can't think of what possible reason a loving God or Jesus , would wait to come to make everything perfect. All I know is.. all thru history....good always triumphs over evil in many ways......world wars where evil could have ruled the world, but nations came together to fight for freedom. In spite of the evil and madness existing in the world, good is predominant..well that is how I see it.

Field service horror/humor stories.
by sonnyboy inthis has probably been done before, but has anyone had any scary or funny things happen to them during field service?
i used to go door-to-door with the most obnoxious elder in the world.
if we approached a house, saw signs of life, but they didn't answer the door, he'd actually go around and knock on their windows!

Hi delilah, you wrote in one of your posts about a brother doing it with the dog. He was a brother here in southern Ontario, married with kids. Seems he had a dog fetish. When the householder came home, he noticed the brother out in his yard messing with his dog and took a polaroid picture before he called the police , just to verify the story. The brother actually worked at the same place as my husband. When he came into work after it became public knowledge,, all the guys on the line would bark at him as he came to his workstation. Sad really.

Yes. I think religion has caused many wars in the past and splits people up into groups of what they believe as per their religion. I also know that religion does do a lot of good charitable work to help others. But that could be accomplished without religious organization as many groups who are not religious care about and help other people in need. We will never be rid of the snare of different religions as many people have the need to belong to an organized religion to know god and serve him. That is their choice in the free world. As long as you have people forming these religious groups, there will always be greed, oppression, status and intolerance for others . There are always going to be people who enjoy the power, status , the monetary gain from organized religion. God never said in the bible to organize yourselves into a religious organization to worship him. He only asked that you love others as you love yourself and treat others as you would be treated. I personally don't believe in a supreme being and have no need to believe that way. My life is much more fulfilling now that I am free of the need to worry about pleasing a god that is fashioned by how people perceive him to be.

Ignorant Dub Friend Just Don't Get It

I think too, that for some raised as a dub and the beliefs are so drummed into your brain , its almost scary to think differently or even let an idea that differs from the dub train of thought to enter your head. I know , even as a dub, when I was starting to doubt, you have this fear that Jehovah will abandon you.. and what if the new system really comes and you aren't there???? I think to really explore their doubts, JWS have to be ready to accept thoughts other than what the society allows. For some,, its a slow and difficult process. Some will never be able to break away from the WTBS's hold on them. I see the sisters I grew up with still out in field service. Its easier than facing the truth about the truth for some.
